On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 1: Flash Marriage
"The Holt Corporation is vast and powerful. Marrying into their family is a blessing, so don’t be ungrateful!"
Chloe Sterling’s icy gaze swept over the family of three before her as she sneered.
"If it’s such a blessing, why not let Esther Sterling marry him."
Warren Sterling’s face turned ashen. "How can you say something so heartless! Esther is only nineteen. How could she get married!"
"I’m only a year older than her. What’s the difference?"
"There’s a huge difference! How can you even compare yourself to Esther! Chloe Sterling, I’m not negotiating with you, so cut the crap. You have two choices: either you obediently marry into the Holt Family, or you get out of the Sterling Family and go back to the countryside. Don’t even think about getting a single cent of my fortune after that!"
Hearing this, the chill in Chloe Sterling’s beautiful eyes deepened. She had been maliciously abducted and taken to the countryside when she was five, only returning to Crestfall six months ago. But her long-awaited reunion was met not with loving parents, but with indifference and disgust.
For the past half-year, she had been living in an apartment, completely ignored and neglected. They had suddenly summoned her back to the Sterling estate, but only for the sake of business—to marry her off to an infamous playboy.
And now they were threatening her with expulsion from the family and disinheritance. Little did they know, she had long since stopped caring about the Sterling Family. As for their money, she had never given it a second thought.
Esther Sterling stood by, enjoying the show. Apart from seeing Chloe marry into the Holt Family, she hoped Chloe would be thrown out of the Sterling Family, kicked out of Crestfall, and never show her face again.
"Dad, please don’t be angry. It’s bad for your health," Esther said, feigning an obedient and selfless demeanor. "If my sister is truly unwilling to do so, then let me marry into the Holt Family. I’ll do anything to help you through this difficult time."
Looking at his sensible younger daughter, Warren’s heart softened. "Nonsense. You’re so outstanding. How could I let you marry that bastard from the Holt family."
Esther smiled inwardly. ’I knew he’d say that.’ She added aloud, "But I want to help you, Dad. I don’t mind."
The contrast only made Warren despise the disobedient Chloe even more.
"Look how sensible your sister is, and then look at yourself! I’m giving you three days to think it over. Marry into the Holt Family or leave the Sterling Family. The choice is yours!"
"I don’t need three days," Chloe said coldly. "I’ll leave the Sterling Family. From this day forward, I have nothing to do with you or the rest of the Sterlings."
Warren was taken aback. He hadn’t expected Chloe to choose disownment over obeying him.
"Fine. You’ve got guts," Warren sneered. "Just don’t come crying back to me!"
"Don’t worry. That day will never come."
"Hmph!" Warren turned away in a rage.
Rose Lynch had remained silent the entire time. Although Chloe was her biological daughter, her status...
Status aside, she simply couldn’t accept this daughter who’d been brought back from the countryside.
Rose was obsessed with protecting the reputation. In the six months since Chloe’s return, she had never taken her to any banquets or introduced her to the high-society circles. She didn’t want the other wives in her circle to laugh at her.
She only ever brought Esther, whom she had meticulously groomed, to these events, refusing to even mention Chloe’s name.
Rose gave Chloe a cold look. "Since you refuse to accept our arrangements, we can’t control you. Just fend for yourself."
With that, she turned and went upstairs.
Watching their cold, retreating figures, Chloe let out another sneer.
’So much for my only family, for parental love. What a joke!’
Esther was utterly delighted, the corners of her lips curling up. "Look at you, you’ve driven Father and Mother away. You’d better have some backbone and not come crying back to them. That would be so embarrassing."
Chloe shot her a cold glance before turning to leave.
One month later...
At the First Medical College of Crestfall.
Chloe walked out of the top-secret laboratory.
After a brief chat with Director Xavier, she went into the locker room to change.
That night, at the Moonlight Bar.
Under the flashing lights, Chloe, dressed in black casual wear, leaned lazily in a booth. Though she seemed out of place in such an environment, she was still dazzlingly beautiful and utterly captivating.
Even though he saw her often, Julian Xavier was still captivated by her beauty.
She had been sitting for less than half an hour, and he had already lost count of the men who had tried to hit on her, all of whom Julian had shooed away.
"Chloe, when are you finally going to take a break? I’ll take you out for a few days to have some fun." Julian knew Chloe had been in a bad mood lately and was always looking for a way to cheer her up.
Chloe took a sip of her drink and said languidly, "It should be soon."
"How soon is soon?"
Before Chloe could answer, a familiar figure suddenly entered her line of sight. The smile on her face instantly became a little strained.
The man was tall and well-built, with a handsome face and a noble, aloof air. He carried himself with an innate kingly presence that inspired both awe and fear.
The women around them were all staring, their eyes wide.
"Pres... President Lockwood! It’s President Lockwood! What’s he doing at a bar?"
"Oh my god! He’s so handsome!"
"That’s some god-tier level of handsome, I’m dying!"
"I just want to know why President Lockwood is here! And will he be back!"
Jasper Lockwood, President of the Lockwood Group, the sole heir to Crestfall’s most powerful conglomerate, the Lockwood Family—a man at the very pinnacle of the pyramid.
Chloe glanced at him for only a moment before looking away. She then picked up her iced drink and took a large gulp, her mind involuntarily flashing back to that absurd, blush-inducing night.
A month ago, she had been in a bad mood and gotten drunk. Floating back to her hotel, she had an unexpected one-night stand with Jasper Lockwood.
She had expected someone of Jasper’s status to give her a check afterward and pretend it never happened. To her surprise, when he woke up, he said he would take responsibility for her.
Although she had no intention of making him take responsibility, she still asked, "How?"
That devastatingly handsome face turned to her, and in a magnetic, bewitching voice, he said, "I’ll give myself to you. Let’s get married."
At the time, they were still huddled under the covers.
Chloe had already forgotten her own reaction or what had possessed her, but she had agreed as if bewitched.
The very next day, they registered their marriage.
On the stairs, Jasper suddenly stopped and turned to look in Chloe’s direction.
Seeing him stop, the man beside him asked, "What’s wrong? What are you looking at?"
Jasper’s thin lips curved slightly, his eyes full of affection. "A beautiful view."
The man followed his gaze and saw Chloe leaning lazily in the booth. He immediately understood.
’No wonder the great President Lockwood insisted on coming to this bar tonight. So his intentions weren’t really for the drinks.’
’This sudden PDA is killing me.’
The man raised an eyebrow. "Well, do you want to go over to your ’beautiful view’? I can head up first."
Jasper retracted his gaze. "Let’s go up first."
The two of them went to a private room upstairs.
Julian’s phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the screen, then stood up. "Chloe, hang tight for a bit. I’m going to take this call. It’s too loud in here."
"Mm," Chloe acknowledged, picking up her drink again.
In another booth, Esther Sterling was sitting with a few other women.
One of them said, "I heard a rumor recently that the great President Lockwood secretly got married. But no one knows who his new wife is. It’s all very mysterious."
Another woman looked astonished. "President Lockwood is secretly married?! For real?"
"I said it’s a rumor. As for whether it’s true or not, who knows."
"Which woman could be so lucky!"
