On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 52: Like You
When Third Aunt said that, I froze for a moment. ’Marriage?’
I subconsciously glanced at the Matriarch and saw the smile on her face fade slightly. I couldn’t tell if it was because Third Aunt’s question was too blunt or for some other reason...
The Matriarch didn’t take Third Aunt’s bait. She just gave her a cool glance before turning to me and asking, "Chelsea, where are you from? Do your parents know you’re with Sebastian?"
’She’s indirectly asking about my family background. Good thing I did my homework before coming.’
I quickly composed myself. "I’m a Kington local. My parents have passed away, but I still have an older brother..."
"You poor child. You’ve really suffered." The Matriarch patted my hand, her eyes full of sympathy.
"Sebastian, you have to treat Chelsea well from now on. No bullying her."
"How could I possibly bully her?" Sebastian Forrest squeezed my hand, a wry smile on his face. "I’d be lucky if she doesn’t bully me..."
I quickly pretended to be shy and lowered my gaze, but not before digging my nails sharply into his hand—payback for his nonsense.
But Sebastian Forrest acted as if he didn’t feel a thing, the smile on his face only growing wider.
For a moment, the atmosphere was quite harmonious.
"Fiona Forrest? What are you doing here all of a sudden, you brat? You didn’t even call ahead."
And just then, Gavin Forrest’s voice was suddenly heard speaking to someone by the door.
"None of your business! I’m here to see Sebastian’s girlfriend!"
"Pfft, as if I care about your business!"
As the two continued to bicker, I instinctively looked toward the sound and saw a girl who bore a slight resemblance to Gavin Forrest walk in.
"You little rascal, so you know how to come back home!" the Matriarch scolded with a laugh, then turned to introduce her to me. "Chelsea, this is Fiona. She’s also from Third Uncle’s family. She and Gavin are fraternal twins."
It suddenly clicked for me—’No wonder they look so much alike.’
Fiona Forrest looked me up and down, her brows furrowed in a critical expression. She seemed to hold back from saying anything only because the elders were present.
"Sebastian, I missed you so much..."
She laughed and lunged toward Sebastian Forrest, looking like she was going in for a bear hug.
I was sitting right next to Sebastian Forrest, so her lunge pushed me aside.
I instinctively tried to move to make room for her, but Sebastian Forrest simply placed a finger on Fiona Forrest’s forehead and pushed her aside. "What are you shoving for? Go cool off somewhere."
Fiona Forrest pouted, and when she looked at me again, her gaze was filled with undisguised hostility.
"You’re already so grown up, yet you’re still so reckless." Seeing the look on her daughter’s face, Third Aunt immediately came over with a smile and pulled her aside.
Although Fiona Forrest was reluctant, she allowed herself to be pulled to a nearby sofa, her face sullen.
I frowned in confusion. ’Why does Fiona Forrest have so much animosity toward me?’
I chatted with the Matriarch for a while longer before Sebastian Forrest used the excuse that I was "weary from the journey" and needed to rest, taking me upstairs.
Once we were inside the bedroom, I let out a long sigh of relief. I felt like every muscle in my body had gone stiff.
’Looks like acting isn’t such an easy job after all.’
"What’s wrong? Tired?" Sebastian Forrest reached out and squeezed my shoulders. The pressure was just right, so comfortable that I almost moaned out loud.
"I get the feeling Fiona Forrest doesn’t like me very much. How did I offend her?" I quickly voiced the question on my mind.
"Don’t mind her. She’s just a kid," Sebastian Forrest said nonchalantly. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
I couldn’t help but press my lips together, worrying. "When are we going to reveal my real identity? If the Matriarch finds out the truth, will she be okay?"
From our brief interaction, I could clearly feel how much the Matriarch doted on Sebastian Forrest.
’If she found out her precious eldest grandson had fallen for a divorcée, she’d probably be devastated.’
’What if something happens... ’
"What’s the rush? We have to see the act through to the end." Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile. "I haven’t even had the chance to perform my ’deep as the sea, undying love’ for you yet. I need to make sure my family’s Matriarch completely loses the energy to ever nag me about marriage again."
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Why do you have to go this far? Don’t you have someone you like, Senior Forrest?"
"I do."
"Who is it?"
"You."
My heart seemed to skip a beat, but I quickly realized he was just teasing me. Feigning anger, I exclaimed, "Senior Forrest!"
Sebastian Forrest laughed and ruffled my hair. "Don’t worry, I have it under control. Nothing will happen. You just focus on giving an Oscar-worthy performance."
...
Sebastian Forrest rarely came to Varden, so he wasn’t home for long before Gavin Forrest dragged him out for a get-together with some mutual acquaintances.
As his ’girlfriend’, I naturally had to go along.
The party was in a commercial high-rise on the banks of the Uldar River. The afternoon sun was brilliant, streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows and scattering across the floor like a layer of dazzling, crushed diamonds.
We had just entered the lobby when Sebastian Forrest took a call.
"You and Gavin head on up first." Sebastian Forrest gently patted my back. "I’ll come find you in a bit."
Then, he tilted his head and glanced at Gavin Forrest. "Take good care of your sister-in-law."
"Got it, Sebastian!"
After watching Sebastian Forrest leave, I took the elevator with Gavin Forrest up to the luxurious private room on the top floor where the party was being held.
On the way up, Gavin Forrest, perhaps worried I might feel awkward, kept telling me embarrassing stories about Sebastian Forrest’s childhood. When I heard that Sebastian had even been dressed up as a girl once, I couldn’t help but cover my mouth to stifle a laugh.
"We’re here, Sister-in-law."
The moment the door to the private room was pushed open, a strange, fragrant aroma wafted out.
Looking inside, I saw a scene of extravagant decadence, as if I had stepped into another world.
Gavin Forrest greeted his friends familiarly but didn’t forget about me, thoughtfully bringing me a glass of wine.
"Thank you, but I don’t drink..."
’Since I’m pregnant now, I can’t touch even a drop of alcohol.’
"What kind of soft drink would you like then?"
I was about to wave my hand and tell him he didn’t need to trouble himself when someone nearby suddenly laughed and spoke up, "Well now, and who is this little beauty...?"
"Isn’t it obvious? She came with Gavin Forrest, so she must be his girlfriend!"
"Don’t talk nonsense!" Gavin Forrest glared at the person. "She’s not!"
But the people gathered around clearly didn’t believe him, and someone even let out a playful whistle.
"Hey, Younger Sister-in-law, how old are you? How did you and Gavin Forrest meet?" someone asked me with a grin.
I knew he was mistaking my relationship with Gavin Forrest, but before I could explain, I heard a deep voice from behind me ask, "Who are you calling ’Younger Sister-in-law’?"
The group instinctively turned to look and saw Sebastian Forrest walking toward them with a calm expression. However, there was a coldness in his eyes that felt imposing...
The next second, Sebastian Forrest wrapped a long arm around me, pulling me into his embrace. To the astonishment of the dumbfounded onlookers, he quirked his lips and said, "Call her Sister-in-law!"
