On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 30: Sign the Divorce Agreement Sooner
Sebastian Forrest noticed my intense gaze, and a slight smile played on his lips.
He steered through the intersection with one hand, then glanced over at me. "Clara Langley is pregnant."
My jaw dropped in astonishment.
’Preg... Pregnant?!’
"Whose baby is it?"
Sebastian Forrest chuckled. "Probably not Theodore Grant’s. Didn’t you just say he has a low sperm count?"
My lips parted instinctively. I was about to say that I was pregnant, too...
But I swallowed the words before they could escape.
"What is it? Is there something you want to say?" Sebastian Forrest seemed to notice my hesitation and turned to look at me.
"No, I’m just... really shocked."
I didn’t want to tell too many people about the pregnancy.
Since I was divorcing Theodore Grant, I definitely couldn’t keep the baby.
I’d have to get an abortion sooner or later.
So, the fewer people who knew, the better.
It would save me from unnecessary trouble.
Sebastian Forrest pursed his lips, his gaze lingering on me for a moment. Just as I sensed it and looked up, he averted his eyes.
"The baby is most likely Clara Langley’s and her ex-husband’s," Sebastian Forrest surmised.
I nodded along. That was my guess, too.
However, if Clara Langley wanted to get back together with Theodore Grant, she definitely couldn’t keep this baby.
Just as I was lost in thought, my phone suddenly buzzed in my pocket. A glance at the caller ID showed it was Theodore Grant.
I rejected the call without a second thought.
But Theodore Grant was relentless, calling again and again as if he wouldn’t stop until he got what he wanted.
"Give it to me."
A hand with well-defined knuckles reached over.
I instinctively glanced to the side, my gaze meeting his dark, luminous eyes. Beneath his usual unruly and casual demeanor, there was a new, sharp coldness.
As if compelled by some unseen force, I handed him the phone.
Before I could react, Sebastian Forrest had already answered the call.
"Chelsea Joyce, are you insane? How dare you dump me with Clara Langley! Do you have any idea what you’ve done? You..."
"Theodore Grant," Sebastian Forrest cut him off nonchalantly.
Simply speaking his name was enough. On the other end of the line, the furious Theodore Grant fell silent, as if someone had hit a pause button. He didn’t make a sound for a long time.
"Sebastian Forrest?!"
After what felt like an eternity, Theodore Grant’s voice finally came through, laced with the distinct sound of gritted teeth. "Why are you answering Chelsea’s phone?"
Sebastian Forrest had put the call on speaker, so I could clearly hear Theodore Grant’s voice.
The air between them crackled with hostility; their words were sharp and confrontational.
For a fleeting moment, I was lost in a memory. I remembered a time when those two were full of life on the same basketball court, stars of Veridian University. They would crush their opponents with every dribble and jump, high-fiving in mid-air, looking like they held the light of the entire world in their hands.
Now, everything had changed.
Sebastian Forrest’s voice remained unhurried. He even tapped a light, rhythmic beat on the steering wheel. "What do you think?"
Theodore Grant sounded like an enraged lion. "Sebastian Forrest, Chelsea and I aren’t divorced yet! She’s still my wife! Even if I’ve wronged her in the past, that’s between the two of us. It’s not your place to interfere!"
Theodore Grant seethed, "I’m warning you one last time. Stay away from her!"
Sebastian Forrest chuckled softly. "And what if I don’t?"
"Sebastian Forrest!"
"Theodore Grant, for old times’ sake, a word of friendly advice: sign the divorce papers soon. Don’t force my hand." As Sebastian Forrest said this, the hint of a smile was still on his lips, but to me, his words carried a chilling threat that made the hairs on my neck stand up.
And I knew he wasn’t bluffing.
With the Forrest Family’s influence, Theodore Grant was simply no match.
Even back in their university days, it had been Theodore Grant who took the initiative to befriend Sebastian Forrest.
The Forrest Family was leagues more powerful than the Grant Family.
There were a few seconds of silence from Theodore Grant’s end, followed by the BEEP-BEEP-BEEP of a disconnected call.
"Here."
I quickly took the phone back, my heart pounding with unease.
’I really don’t understand why Sebastian Forrest is suddenly helping me.’
’Has he disliked Theodore Grant for a long time?’
’Is helping me just a convenient way for him to take a shot at Theodore?’
While my thoughts were running wild, the car suddenly came to a stop.
"We’re here."
"Ah, oh!" I quickly grabbed my bag and got out.
"Thanks, Senior Forrest. Drive sa—"
But before I could finish, I saw Sebastian Forrest get out of the car as well.
I stared at him, completely bewildered, wondering what he was doing.
"Master Forrest!"
Just then, I saw several men walking toward us, my department’s business manager prominently among them.
"You’re finally here! Thank you for your tremendous support of Wind-Whisper, and even more for your support of the voice acting industry." A smiling, middle-aged man in his forties shook Sebastian Forrest’s hand, bowing slightly.
While I was still in a daze, someone gently poked my arm. I instinctively turned to see my business manager shooting me a meaningful look.
"Manager?"
"How did you get here in Master Forrest’s car? Do you two know each other?"
"He’s my senior from university..." Realizing how special Sebastian Forrest’s status was, I quickly offered a plausible explanation. "We just happened to run into each other, so he gave me a ride..."
The business manager’s eyes lit up. He quickly lowered his voice. "This is perfect! Master Forrest is our biggest benefactor! The company’s funding all depends on him! Since you know him, things will be so much easier..."
It all suddenly clicked.
’No wonder even the company’s owner came out to greet him personally.’
Soon, the company’s owner noticed me. After a few questions, he learned that I was not only a newly hired voice actress but also Sebastian Forrest’s junior from university.
"Excellent! In that case, how about we have Joyce here be responsible for liaising with Master Forrest from now on?"
I was a bit taken aback by the sudden promotion, but I knew that connections were a form of soft power. I immediately accepted. "Thank you, sir. I’ll do my best."
Once the crowd of company executives had finally departed, I let out a quiet sigh of relief.
"What’s wrong?" Sebastian Forrest looked at me with an amused, teasing smile. "Not happy about being given such an important task?"
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at him, a look of exasperation on my face. "Senior Forrest, could you please give me a heads-up next time you’re going to drop a bomb like that?"
Having that whole crowd of company bigwigs suddenly swarm us... my heart nearly leaped out of my chest.
Still, thanks to Sebastian Forrest’s stunt, I’d instantly become well-known at the company.
Whether they saw me as someone with connections or someone who was "parachuted in," I had at least become someone my colleagues wouldn’t dare to cross. That would certainly reduce a lot of friction at work.
Sebastian Forrest reached out and playfully ruffled my hair until it was a mess. "Got it."
"Hey, my hair!"
I hurriedly tried to fix the hair Sebastian Forrest had just messed up. Seeing him get into the car with a smile, I waved goodbye.
I watched the black SUV drive off into the distance before turning to head into the company building.
But I had only taken a few steps when someone grabbed my wrist—
