On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 27: Whose Child Is in Your Belly?
My heart dropped. I never imagined Theodore Grant would find out about this.
Seeing my silence, Theodore Grant gave a bitter laugh, his voice so low and hoarse it was almost inaudible. "So you really did know."
I pursed my lips, unsure of how to respond.
There was a time I did everything I could to hide this from Theodore Grant, terrified he would be heartbroken if he found out...
But now, I no longer cared. Instead, I found myself wondering why Theodore Grant had suddenly discovered the truth.
I couldn’t help but frown. ’I’d kept it a secret so well before.’
’Why did something like this have to happen right when he’d finally agreed to the divorce proceedings?!’
"How did you..."
But before I could finish, Theodore Grant cut me off, a new edge of anger in his voice. "You have the nerve to ask me how I found out? Wasn’t it you who told Sebastian Forrest?"
’Sebastian Forrest?’
I had no idea what he was talking about. ’What does this have to do with Senior Forrest?’
He sneered and continued, "No wonder when he came back from the research institute to see me last month, he suddenly suggested I go to the hospital for a check-up. Are you telling me you didn’t say anything to him?"
Theodore Grant’s voice grew more agitated. "Yesterday, I was still wondering why he was suddenly coming after me. It wasn’t until today, when I dug up my medical report from a month ago, that it all clicked! Chelsea Joyce, do you hate me that much?"
"It wasn’t me." I frowned. "I haven’t told a soul about this. Believe it or not."
Theodore Grant didn’t say anything else, and I couldn’t tell if he believed me.
After a long silence, he finally took a deep breath, his tone tinged with frustration. "Chelsea, I’m not in a good mood today. Can we postpone the divorce?"
I instinctively opened my mouth to protest. Even though I knew there might be complications with the divorce, hearing Theodore Grant ask to postpone it still left me feeling suffocated.
But I couldn’t bring myself to say no. Defeated, I could only manage a sullen, "Okay."
After hanging up, I threw my phone onto the sofa in frustration.
I couldn’t believe things had taken such an absurd turn.
All because of an offhand comment from Sebastian Forrest a month ago, Theodore Grant actually went for a medical check-up.
Then, because Sebastian Forrest stood up for me yesterday, Theodore Grant got suspicious, connected the dots, and on some bizarre impulse, looked up that month-old medical report, finally discovering the truth about his infertility!
A coincidence this wild is something you wouldn’t even see in a TV drama.
And yet, it was happening to me for real!
Just as I was stewing in frustration, unsure how to vent, a video call from Chloe Miller suddenly came in.
"Chelsea, what’s going on? Hasn’t that bastard Theodore Grant called you yet? Is he backing out?!"
I heaved a deep sigh. "I was the one who called him. He found out about his asthenospermia, that he’s unable to have children. He said the divorce needs to be postponed a few days."
"Fuck!" Chloe swore. "What does his infertility have to do with the divorce? That bastard isn’t planning on clinging to you, is he? No, wait..."
Chloe stopped cursing mid-rant as something dawned on her, her voice suddenly shooting up an octave. "What did you just say? Theodore Grant is infertile? Wh-wh-when did this happen? How come I didn’t know?"
I pursed my lips. Back then, I’d hidden it from everyone. Not just Chloe, but even my own mother and my mother-in-law. I was terrified a single word would get out and reach Theodore Grant, breaking his heart...
’Looking back on it now, I feel like a complete and utter idiot!’
I quickly explained the whole story to Chloe.
"Something this huge, and you dared to keep it from me!" Chloe couldn’t help but start scolding me. "Have you lost your mind?!" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Tell me about it," I said with a bitter laugh.
Hearing how down I sounded, Chloe didn’t continue scolding me. It was all in the past, after all, and there was no point dwelling on it.
"Hey, wait a minute..."
Just then, Chloe seemed to have a sudden thought. "Chelsea, didn’t you say Theodore Grant has asthenospermia and is infertile? Then whose baby is that in your belly?"
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. "Of course it’s Theodore Grant’s. Remember all those ovulation-inducing drugs I took?!"
Chloe giggled. "You never know. What if the baby’s real father is someone else?"
"Don’t be ridiculous."
Chloe stopped joking around. "Okay, on a serious note, what’s your plan now?"
"I guess I just have to wait until Theodore Grant is in a better mood."
To miss such a perfect opportunity... it’d be a lie to say I wasn’t upset.
But what’s done is done. There was no point in complaining.
"But then again," Chloe speculated, "why would Sebastian Forrest tell Theodore Grant to get a check-up for no reason? Do you think he knows something?"
I pursed my lips. "I don’t know either."
’Maybe it really was just a coincidence.’
While Chloe and I were chatting, a call from an unknown number came in. "Chloe, I need to take this. I’ll video you back in a bit."
After hanging up with Chloe, I immediately answered the new call. "Hello?"
"Excuse me, is this Miss Joyce?"
"This is she. And you are...?"
"I’m from Wind-Whisper Voice Acting. We received Miss Joyce’s resume. I was wondering if you would be available for an interview at our office tomorrow afternoon?"
The moment I heard it was a call for an interview, I was so excited I nearly jumped out of my skin.
’And it was Wind-Whisper—the top voice acting company in the country!’
"Yes, I’m available."
"Great. We’ve sent the details—the time, address, and what you need to prepare—to your email."
"Thank you."
...
After hanging up, I immediately called Chloe back to share the good news.
Chloe insisted I needed a new outfit for the interview and dragged me out to go shopping. I couldn’t talk her out of it, so I agreed.
"This one is pretty! Chelsea, hurry up and go try it on." Chloe handed me a long, light-green dress.
I took the dress and went into the fitting room. Just as I was about to change, I heard a commotion outside. It sounded faintly like Chloe’s voice.
Forgetting about the dress, I immediately pushed the door open and stepped out.
I saw Chloe with her hands on her hips, aggressively pointing at Theodore Grant and yelling at him. His face was livid, but he just stood there with his thin lips pressed into a tight line, saying nothing.
’What is Theodore Grant doing here?’
’Why is Chloe provoking him?’
Seeing this, I rushed forward to pull Chloe back, afraid she’d be at a disadvantage against Theodore Grant.
Just then, a face peeked out from behind Theodore Grant. She curled her lip and said, "I was wondering who would just start cursing someone out like a mad dog without knowing the first thing about the situation. Turns out it’s a friend of Chelsea’s. Birds of a feather really do flock together!"
"Who are you calling a mad dog?!" The moment Chloe saw Clara Langley appear, she lunged forward and grabbed a fistful of her hair.
"You... Let me go!" Pulled into a stoop by Chloe’s grip, Clara’s face flushed red with pain. She reached out to Theodore Grant for help. "Theodore, what are you just standing there for? Help me!"
Only then did Theodore Grant step forward, grabbing Chloe’s wrist and saying in a low voice, "Let go!"
Chloe winced as he squeezed, and though she didn’t want to let go, Theodore Grant managed to wrench her away. She was still clutching a large clump of hair, clearly torn from Clara Langley’s head.
Seeing Theodore Grant advance toward Chloe with a grim expression, I stepped directly in front of her and faced him, my voice cold. "You said you weren’t in the mood to go through with the divorce proceedings with me. What’s this? You have the time and energy to go shopping with Clara Langley?!"
"Divorce?" Clara Langley, who had been rubbing her scalp, suddenly looked up at the word, her expression a mixture of disbelief and pleasant surprise. "Theodore, you’re getting a divorce?"
