Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Who Is the Adulterer?

Once we left Kington University, I sat quietly in the passenger seat, and the atmosphere in the car felt a little awkward.

"What’s wrong?"

Seeing that I’d been quiet for a while, Sebastian Forrest turned to glance at me, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Are you angry?"

I quickly shook my head. "No. Why didn’t you explain things to them? What if they get the wrong idea..."

’It doesn’t really matter for me. I’m already married and about to be divorced anyway.’

’But Sebastian Forrest is still single.’

’If the university administration starts spreading rumors, he’ll be the only one at a disadvantage.’

"It’s fine." Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile.

I looked at him in surprise, unsure of what he meant...

’For some reason, as if possessed, Chloe Miller’s words surfaced in my mind: "He likes you!"’

Sebastian Forrest tilted his head to look at me. "If I hadn’t said that, they would have hounded us with questions. We never would have gotten away so easily."

I finally understood what he meant, and the tension in my chest eased.

"What? Are you embarrassed to be seen with me?" Sebastian Forrest glanced at me with a half-smile. In the dappled light, his eyes looked pure black, like crushed diamonds dancing in their depths.

"How could that be?" I quickly shook my head. "I was just afraid of embarrassing *you*."

Sebastian Forrest just smiled, however, and looked back at the road. His fingers tapped a lazy, unrestrained rhythm on the steering wheel.

I didn’t dare look at him again, but in my peripheral vision, I could see the cuff of his pristine white shirt. A dark blue rhinestone cufflink fastened it, exuding an air of noble elegance.

’Gentle as jade, yet proud and noble.’

’He truly was the man once known, alongside Theodore Grant, as one of the twin pillars of Kington University.’

I grumbled to myself, ’I wonder what lucky girl will end up with him...’

...

Soon, the car was pulling slowly into my apartment complex.

After thanking him, I unbuckled my seatbelt and opened the door to get out.

"What? After following you around for most of the day, you’re not going to invite me up for a cup of tea?" Sebastian Forrest watched me with that same half-smile, glancing up at the apartment building. "You’ve moved. I should at least see where you live, shouldn’t I?"

"If you don’t mind, Senior Forrest, then please, come up for a cup of tea. I just moved in, so things are still a bit of a mess, and I don’t have any good tea..."

Sebastian Forrest got out of the car with a fluid motion. "Let’s go. I’m not picky."

And just as we were waiting for the elevator, Sebastian Forrest’s phone suddenly started vibrating.

"Hello, Lawyer Kerr, it’s me..."

I had turned away out of courtesy, not wanting to eavesdrop, but when I heard him say the words "Lawyer Kerr," I snapped my head back to look at him.

Sebastian Forrest gave me a reassuring look before speaking into the phone in a low voice, "Alright, I’ve got it. Keep me updated."

The moment he hung up, I couldn’t hold back any longer. "What is it?" I asked hurriedly. "Is there a problem with my divorce?"

Sebastian Forrest nodded. "Lawyer Kerr just told me that Theodore Grant is taking a hard line. He’s mobilized the Grant Group’s legal team to fight the divorce in court."

"What?" I was utterly shocked.

’Theodore Grant is actually using his corporate legal team?’

’Has he lost his mind?’

’Just to stop our divorce?’

’Doesn’t he love Clara Langley?’

’I’m already planning to step aside for them, so why won’t he just let me go?!’

"Don’t panic yet," Sebastian Forrest soothed. "I said I’d help you, and I’ll see it through to the end."

"But..." I was frantic. "What do we do now?"

’Divorce cases like this are the most difficult to deal with.’

’Especially when one party refuses to consent. It’s almost impossible to get divorced easily then.’

’There is the law about automatic divorce after a two-year separation.’

’But two years...’

’I can’t even bear it for one more day!’

"It’s not like there are no other options," Sebastian Forrest said calmly.

"What kind of options?"

Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile. "Let’s go upstairs first. Make me a pot of tea, and I’ll tell you all about it."

Hearing that he had a plan filled me with hope. When I saw the elevator arrive, I quickly pressed the button to open the doors.

Soon, the elevator arrived at the eighth floor.

But just as I stepped out of the elevator, a low, hostile voice rang out. "Chelsea Joyce!"

My heart leaped at the all-too-familiar sound. I instinctively looked toward the voice and, sure enough, saw Theodore Grant standing outside my apartment door, his face dark as he stalked toward me.

"You’ve gotten bold, haven’t you? To think you could hire Lawyer Kerr. You..."

Theodore Grant hadn’t even finished his sentence when he abruptly caught sight of Sebastian Forrest behind me. He froze. "Sebastian Forrest? What are you doing here?"

But before Sebastian Forrest could speak, I glared at Theodore Grant, my face cold. "I should be the one asking you that. What are you doing here?"

Theodore Grant tore his gaze away from Sebastian Forrest and fixed it on me, his lips pressed into a thin line. "Who hired Lawyer Kerr for you? Chelsea Joyce, have you already found your next man? Is that why you’re so eager to divorce me?"

"What did you just say?" I was stunned for a moment, as if I hadn’t heard him correctly.

Theodore Grant scoffed. "You don’t have the connections to hire Lawyer Kerr from The Kington Ace. So tell me, who’s the other man?"

"The other man?" I stared at him in utter disbelief, practically gritting my teeth. "Theodore Grant, do you really not know why I want to divorce you?"

Theodore Grant’s lip curled. "Who’s to say that isn’t just an excuse you came up with? I’ve told you, there’s nothing going on between me and Clara Langley. You’re the one who refuses to believe it."

His brow furrowed. "Who are you divorcing me for? Who is the other man?!"

I tried my best to control myself, but I was trembling with rage.

’I loved Theodore Grant for twelve whole years.’

’And in return, I get accused of having another man?’

’If it were possible, I would wish I had never loved him at all!’

"Theodore Grant, what is the point of this?!" I stared at him coldly. "Even if, as you say, you and Clara Langley are completely innocent, can you honestly say there’s nothing ambiguous about your relationship?"

"On any given day, one phone call from Clara Langley is enough to pull you away. She’s more like your wife than I am! Since that’s the case, I’ll step aside and let you two be together!"

Theodore Grant’s face was dark with anger now. "I’ve told you so many times! I’m only good to her because her husband saved my life! Why won’t you believe me?"

I laughed, completely incensed. "Fine. I believe you. I believe you and Clara Langley are completely innocent. So, will you sign the divorce papers now?"

"You—" Theodore Grant was struck speechless. It took him a long moment to find his voice. "You really want to divorce me that badly?"

"Yes!" I said, my voice sharp and decisive. "I want to divorce you."

"Why?"

"Because you’re the one who killed my mother!" I bit out, my voice laced with hatred.
