Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 864: A Request To Meet ()
Lado played a good card. Or maybe it had been Alessio behind him all along. But rallying the support of all the Eclipse Alphas ensured Neveah could not actively decline or risk shaming Alessio.
At the end of dinner, it was decided.
Neveah would be performing the Luna dance in two days.
The Eclipse Alphas filed out of the dining hall, led away by Lado. Neveah walked at a slow pace behind, ignoring Alessio’s looming presence by her side.
"The Eclipse Alphas will be having drinks in Lado’s study." Alessio relayed to Neveah. "I’m expected to join them. I don’t know how far into the night it will take."
Neveah pursed her lips. She didn’t care either way.
"I’ll walk you back." Alessio added, "You need your rest. I can always join them later."
Neveah shook her head slowly. "I’ll be fine on my own. I know the way back."
Alessio was about to protest but she fixed him with a blank stare.
"I want...to be on my own." She adjusted her words for better clarity. "You should focus on what you came here for..." She trailed off,
"Being Alpha King."
Alessio was visibly displeased, but he didn’t push it. "Rest well then. The Eclipse Lunas will arrive at dawn tomorrow. You should join them for breakfast."
Neveah didn’t need to be told it wasn’t a suggestion.
His eyes searched Neveah’s, waiting for her answer. She nodded once in understanding and only then did he continue.
"The Luna of Eclipse fur will begin teaching you the Luna dance tomorrow. I’ve heard it takes years to master it to perfection, but it shouldn’t be difficult..." He paused briefly.
"Seeing as you have already done it a few times yourself." He finished.
She’d noticed Alessio tended to ignore making references to her past. He was wary of triggering a recollection, especially now when she had caught onto the tonic Karan prepared being the culprit behind her suppressed memories.
Neveah had hoped she’d begin to have flashes of her memories now. She’d stopped taking the tonic for more than a few days now.
Instead, all she’d experienced since were frequent bouts of that mind numbing pain. Like her mind fought to clear a fog that just wouldn’t go away, and so it had chosen to turn on its own self.
But that wasn’t it. There was something more. Something buried deep beneath that cloud of pain that was struggling to make its way up.
Neveah could sense it. Prowling somewhere in the depths of her mind. Cut off from her by whateve r malicious spell Karan had cast to shatter the foundation of her mind.
It was right there, but she just couldn’t reach it no matter how hard she tried. No matter how much she endured.
Now, the revelations had begin to come one after the other. Everyone was looking up to her to make the decisive move. Meanwhile, Neveah still wondered, what exactly would the old her do in this situation?
It was a question that did not come with any easy answers. She would need to find that truth buried deep within the fogged desert her mind had become.
She just needed to find the courage to dig deep enough...to push through the pain until she reached it.
But it was difficult to focus on anything other than surviving the day ahead with Alessio breathing down her neck, and a world of chaos and grievances all around her.
She’d realised today that she was someone many held to certain expectations.
Save the Eclipse Domain from Alessio? She couldn’t even stand up to him enough to free her own self.
She hadn’t even dared take Scott’s offer when an entire army was handed to her on a platter of gold.
Then, she’d justified it to herself that there would be too many casualties. After hearing from Laila, she’d realised there would be casualties either ways.
Regardless of if she made a move or not, Alessio and his depraved subordinates were a force of dark destruction that would consume the Eclipse Domain and all the people within it, even if she didn’t get involved herself.
People were being killed at random. She could taste the fear in the air. It was thick and heavy in the atmosphere everywhere.
Was war still the wrong choice when it was the only way out of this dark situation? And why was she so hesitant?
Perhaps it’d never been about the casualties. Perhaps she just didn’t dare to accept the burden of changing the fate of thousands of people she didn’t even know.
Whatever they saw in her... she just couldn’t see it.
As Neveah’s thoughts drifted off, she found she already stood at the door of her room.
She heaved a quiet sigh and ventured in. A glance around told her Scott didn’t make it.
Neveah exhaled a breath of relief. It was for the best. She couldn’t afford endangering anyone because of her. Even if that was precisely Scott’s vow on that night.
Neveah sat at the edge of the bed, undoing her hair from the bun Laila had put it into. She ran a hand through it, her mind still clouded with uneasy thoughts.
Her circulating thoughts finally settled, bringing to the surface a memory she hadn’t given as much thought as she should have.
"You need to...summon a portal." The ruby beast had said.
"You have to trust me. You have it in you. Even if you don’t remember."
Magic... she hadn’t attempted it since that event. On one hand, she still couldn’t believe it herself.
On the other hand, she was... scared of what could possibly happen if she gave it another try.
But it had worked once. Didn’t that already say enough? If she had done it once, she definitely could again.
Maybe she could even do more.
Did Alessio know about it? What she could do? Did he know that she could summon portals?
She doubted he did. He’d have her glued to his hip if he had any indication that she could actually leave him at will. Just with a flick of her wrist.
Neveah shook her head slowly to shake off the thought. It was best not to get ahead of herself.
Not yet. She wasn’t even certain it would work a second time. But it was worth a try, right?
Neveah didn’t allow herself to overthink it. If she did, she would come up with a dozen reasons not to.
Instead, she headed over to the door and turned the knob, making sure it was locked before retreating back into her room.
Neveah glanced around uncertainly. And then, drawing in a sharp breath, she let her eyes fall closed.
She reached within, just like she had on that night. Seeking out that pulsing energy, so faint and so distant, one wouldn’t believe it was there.
The last time, she didn’t know what to look for. But this time, she did. She had felt the surge of something foreign flood her veins and accelerate her pulse rate.
She had felt the heat underneath the surface of her skin, and the warmth on her fingertips.
She had felt her heart beating a strange, eager, almost excited rhythm that grew increasingly faster, fuelled by the heat coiling in her consciousness.
She’d felt it all... More real than anything else she’d felt in a long time. Potent enough it demanded and seized all of her attention, and then some.
Neveah’s heart thumped faster. The heat coiled in her gut. It was an uncomfortable feeling at first but soon settled into something uniquely familiar.
The ground trembled lightly beneath her feet. Not so much it could cause an alarm, just a muted vibration.
It took a moment, but when her eyes fluttered open, a dim, golden glowing orb of light hovered above her outstretched palm.
Neveah’s eyes widened. She shook her hand quickly to get rid of the light but it simply hovered in whatever direction she upturned her hand. It didn’t leave or disperse.
Magic... she’d actually done it with little to no effort.
A knock sounded on the door, startling Neveah. She jumped, the golden orb vanished almost immediately and everything returned to the still silence of the night.
Neveah headed over to the door, unlocking it. Laila stood on the other side.
There was an air of unease around her. Her feets shuffled, her eyes shining with terror.
"What is it?" Neveah asked blankly.
Laila glanced nervously around the hallway before returning her attention to Neveah.
"I... there’s someone who would like to meet you." She stuttered, still shuffling on her feet.
"Someone?" Neveah question suspiciously.
"I... I don’t know if I should be doing this..." She muttered, more to herself than to Neveah.
Neveah frowned slightly.
Laila hesitated for a long moment but finally she nodded. "They’re friends, Your Grace. You’ll know when you see them..."
"Even if you don’t remember it, there are people here that have always stood by you."
"The Varlestons... and the Alpha Dane and Luna Leen of Eclipse Hunt." Laila’s tone was sincere.
"I... Before they make their arrival for the ceremony known, they ask that you meet with them in secret. Tonight..."
