Chapter 825: Chaos and Concord (Ch.826)

He nodded slowly, pulling Neveah closer to him. His forehead grazed hers, "Everything that led up to you feels worth it."

"Chaos... and Concord, alike."

The sincerity in his words was so potent it ached. His gaze captivated her, endless pools of black mystery. Only, it wasn’t a mystery anymore.

It was the reflection of a feeling that mirrored her own heart. A feeling that made death and two lifetimes pale in comparison.

"He might just do that all night." Xenon breathed against her cheek as he nuzzled her neck.

"I have a pretty good solution." He offered.

Neveah’s brows furrowed, but understanding dawned when Xenon’s hand inched down, fingers trailing her thighs.

He pulled away slightly, staring into her eyes. As if seeking something... reciprocation. He had learnt to ask before taking, even when his natural instinct was to take as it pleased him.

The mischievous look in his, as well as the desire pooled in those onyx orbs gave him away.

"We’re... like, in the middle of nowhere." Neveah whispered. Her tone came out more husky than intended.

Xenon’s eyes darkened even more, and she gulped audibly.

"And?" Xenon asked, his hands still making a slow path up her thighs.

"And, behave." She exhaled in a shaky breath.

His reply was simple. "I don’t intend to."

"Tell me you want me to stop." He rasped. "And I will. No questions asked."

Neveah’s breath caught as he found her, warm and slick. He grunted deep in his throat, thoroughly satisfied by his discovery.

"Your body was made for me... I’d die before I learn you can resist my touch." His tone was guttural now, animalistic. "Would be unfair, when it takes less than a gaze for you to undo me."

Neveah’s wolf purred somewhere in her head. She was usually quietly basking, but something about Xenon’s wild desires called to a more primal side of her.

His left hand cupped Neveah’s neck, tilting her head up. His lips claimed hers, hungrily, swallowing the first of her moans as his fingers skillfully strummed her, like she was an instrument he crafted piece by piece, memorizing the deepest curves, in places no one else knew...no one else could touch.

She pulled away for a breath and Xenon’s lips trailed down her neck. Neveah gasped quietly, her back arched as his fingers dipped between her folds.

"Whose idea was this?"

She glanced up. The boulder was empty and Jian now stared at them from a few paces away, hands crossed over his chest.

She couldn’t tell if he was furious or intrigued.

"X... Xenon’s." Neveah hung him out to dry immediately, words torn between a gasp and a moan.

Jian was quiet and then after a moment, he said in a deceptively calm tone, "Take off the dress... I’m beginning to tire of riding suits."

Xenon chuckled darkly against her skin.

"I don’t think he hates my plan." Xenon murmured quietly. He reached behind Neveah to unlace the suit, working too effectively with just one hand while the other steadily drove her to madness. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Xenon moved away just as her dress fell over her shoulders and Jian picked Neveah up. Her legs went around his waist on instinct as their lips met. His kiss was urgent, demanding... like a man starved of his favorite nectar.

He didn’t let her break the kiss, not when her back met the cold wall of the cave, and not when he stretched her in a single, swift thrust.

Not when she felt the warmth of his blood as her claws grew out of her control and dug into the skin of his back. Not even when the embers of the small bonfire floated about them, glowing a familiar golden hue.

Time stopped abruptly and then seemed to flow faster.

He swallowed every sound she made, even the taste of her tears shared between them as she was overwhelmed with the sensations of his feral loving.

Neveah stirred awake a few hours later. Xenon was still asleep beside her, but Jian was nowhere to be seen. He had taken first watch and should have been back a while ago.

She got up slowly, careful to avoid waking Xenon. Heading out of the cave, she found Jian outside, he sat on a log facing a small stream and was once again lost in his thoughts.

Sitting alone like that, his hair tousled, back ramrod straight, arms on his knees and robes splayed out behind him. the aura around him was one of solitary despair and it ached Neveah’s heart to see.

She walked over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Jian’s eyes came open and he reached for her hand, interlocking their fingers, he guided her to sit beside him.

She didn’t say a word, just sat in silence staring at the steadily flowing stream. Until he broke the silence first.

"If Beoruh already laid a trap, it’s safe to say he’s still a step ahead of us." Jian said, his silent fury seeped into his tone, it was subtle, but it was there. "What if...he already has the third rune? What if... I fail to keep my people safe?"

These were doubts Jian would never share with anyone else. Because he had been raised with the belief that no one could see the Dragon King waver.

That vulnerability was a weakness. And Neveah couldn’t change that, not when she had been raised in quite the same manner.

But with her, he could be himself. She had felt it, as he made love to her. His fears, his doubts, his rage...all merged into one desperate need for the only comfort he knew, the only comfort he would allow himself.

Neveah was quiet for a moment. "Not necessarily."

"I don’t think he has all three runes yet." She continued. "If he did, there’s no reason to bother setting a golem on us when he knows it stands no chance."

"I think, just like us... he’s trying to prevent us from acquiring it."

Jian seemed to contemplate it. "One thing is for certain, the rune is not here in Ebon Hollow. He would have it already if it was."

Neveah could not disagree with this. It seemed Beoruh had already been to Ebonhollow. Perhaps even before he acquired any of the other runes.

For what he was trying to achieve, the witch control rune was the most important piece. Without it, he could unleash the forlorn, but he couldn’t control them.

"I’d like to take a second look today." Neveah said. "If he set a trap in Ebonhollow, he must also believe there is something here...or was."

Jian turned to Neveah. "You think someone already got to it first? Even before Beoruh?"

"I’m not sure." She admitted. "But let’s not forget, Beoruh needed the Fae to acquire the Fae rune. And he needed the Mer Prince to acquire the Mer rune."

"But he doesn’t have a witch..." Jian completed Neveah’s train of thoughts.

Neveah nodded slowly. "If there was nothing to protect, nothing to deter us from, he wouldn’t leave a golem and would be more focused on setting the forlorn on us."

"It might not be that there’s nothing there. There may be something. For all we know, he’s found its exact location already...he just doesn’t have the means to access it, yet."
