Chapter 744: Sending Help (Ch.745)

"There is a way." A spectral voice whispered to Xenon’s hearing. Xenon’s lips curled slightly in defiance. "But the choice is yours." The second spectral voice added.

Meanwhile, all around them, pandemonium had taken over the city wall. They could hear everything that was said even if they were not truly present in that reality.

"Get Our Liege here!" Lord Kaideon roared. "Now!"

"The battle circle is sealed by dark magic, flames will not penetrate, neither will ice. It cannot be broken through." Lord Starron stated the facts.

"If anyone stands a chance of penetrating the circle, it can only be Our Liege." Lord Kaideon stated clearly. "There’s no time to contemplate it! Get him here!"

The voices echoed in Jian’s head and he let that tug guide him back to reality, but just as he did, he picked up on Xenon’s voice saying;

"The battle circle... I might have a way to penetrate it. I will send you help." As Jian’s consciousness faded away, Xenon was left watching the disturbing battle.

"It is time for your choice..." The third spectral voice whispered. "Will you watch your brother die? Will you let him watch it happen also? Knowing he cannot break through the circle?"

But the choice was already made when Xenon had assured Jian of assistance and so there was no hesitation. "Do... whatever it is you have to do. But get him through that circle."

An otherworldly chill surged through him as he felt a cold grip on his consciousness, it forced a shift and Xenon leapt off the city wall, the turbulent Black Sea rushed up at him with great speed until his vision shifted and his large dragon eyes narrowed. His dragon form was a ghostly, translucent version of the massive black dragon and Xenon stared down at his claws with a measure of horror.

"Everything is more fragile in this realm. For a limited time, our magic will allow you to affect the plane of reality from this realm...but only for a limited time." The first spectral voice made clear. "If you do not find your way back to your own reality in time, your soul may never find its way back."

Xenon had already guessed there would be a cost, magic always came with consequences. It was nature’s way of limiting an otherwise terrifying power.

Be that as it may, Xenon could never watch Cassian fall.

Jian’s eyes snapped open. He was back in his study now, from where the dream walk had begun, he sucked in a deep breath just as his doors burst open, he was already up on his feet and headed to the balcony. He didn’t wait to hear from Lord Starron, he shot off into the skies and was back at the city wall in a moment. Only this time, he did not stop at the city wall, he flew past it.

The battle circle loomed ahead, exuding an ominous aura. Jian had not been this close to it himself since he had never battled...not until now. It was hard to tell there was a magical barrier if one did not notice the red, dimly glowing circle in the clouds.

From this close, Jian could smell Cassian’s blood and wrath surged within him as he banked to the side, away from a lightning bolt that struck the earth right where he had been. The other dragon lords moved out of the way as Jian circled the barrier, scanning for a weak point though he did not truly expect to find one.

But then, Jian’s eyes caught something. A piece of the barrier suddenly melted away right in his view and the melting continued rapidly, spreading across the barrier. Jian sensed a familiar heat, he could even smell the embers of flame, but he could not see it.

"I will send you help," Xenon had said.

There was no time to contemplate the phenomenon, Jian lunged immediately, bursting through the weakened barrier. His claws went straight for the Hydra’s nearest head, raking right across the scale and through the flesh underneath, cutting the head off from where it snuck up on Cassian from behind. The Hydra shrieked, all three heads snapped to Jian, acid venom splattering everywhere, Jian twisted sharply to the side, avoiding the acid venom and nudging Cassian out of the way too.

Cassian barely righted his flight before he banked sharply again, away from the Hydra’s tail. "How are you here?!" He thought to Jian.

"Focus on staying alive." Jian thought back to him.

The head of the Hydra disintegrated, but even as that happened, new flesh coiled and regrew, the beast hissing in triumph.

’This thing won’t die!’ Cassian thought to Jian, his tone frustrated.

’Damned regeneration. I thought it was a myth.’ Jian replied. ’We can’t let it heal.’

Jian recoiled, putting distance between him and the Hydra whilst Cassian kept it engaged. Reaching within, his maws parted and a billow of ice rained down on the Hydra, freezing up every part it touched.

The Hydra shrieked ferociously, spitting venom over its own self to melt the ice and keep it from spreading. But Cassian was faster, spinning around, he slammed his club tail right into the frozen part of the Hydra, shattering the ice to pieces. Jian released a torrent of flames right afterwards, melting the pieces of ice into nothingness.

The shrieks of the Hydra were no longer echoed, two of the Hydra’s heads had been caught in the ice and a part of its arm, it would not find it easy to regenerate as quickly as the last time, but there was one head left, and its eyes glowered in fury as its tail shot for Jian, now wary of his ice.

’One head left. Take this one out before it regenerates the other two and it’s dead for good.’ Jian thought to Cassian as he spun away from the poison tipped tail.

’It knows that too.’ Cassian thought back. ’It won’t let us get near ’

’It’s a good thing I wasn’t counting on its generosity.’ Jian replied.
