Chapter 730: All You Can Give (Ch.731)

"Are you sure you don’t need us?" Everon asked, as he and Tara accompanied Neveah to the landing platform. "I mean, I do not have much to do on a war council. Menarx will be here soon and there are more than enough physicians in the Keep."

"We have to take Verothrax with us to keep an eye on him and get him the help he needs, that means Ida will accompany us, but any more than that and our flight might attract too much attention. Xenon will keep me safe, you know that." Neveah said to Everon with a reassuring smile.

"And you, Tara. I left you to oversee the Fae spies for a reason. While some of them have been caught, a lot are still well situated and you are the only link of communication and the only one who knows exactly how many spies we have in the Fae royal forest. The council will need you to keep them informed." Neveah added.

"I understand. Give my best to my sister Isa and the little one, when you arrive at the Dunes." Tara conceded.

"Ron, you go ahead to the Dunes and assist Garron and Conrad in putting things in order. We will arrive with Verothrax after we have concluded our business in Scabbard." Neveah said to Everon.

"I do not feel at ease with this arrangement. If not us, at least take Decaron with you, Xenon may be undefeated but since his return he...well, he is unstable." Everon’s tone quietened as he spoke.

Neveah paused in her step and passed a look at Everon. "Anyone would be the same after being stuck in the shadow tower. Xenon will be fine. And Decaron must remain in the Keep to keep the City Guard in check, he is the closest in rank to Lodenworth and in the best position to assume command of Lodenworth’s duties." Neveah said, her tone was also low.

"Has Xenon told you any of what happened there? Or how they found their way back to Mount Edar rather than the Dunes?" Everon insisted. "He will not tell me anything, despite constantly pestering him."

"He has spoken of experiencing some...weird events, but we have not had the time to truly talk about it. And there might be things he is not ready to share, just yet. I will keep a close eye on him and if anything seems amiss, I will send you word without delay." Neveah assured.

"But you and I know that Xenon is more than capable of keeping it together, regardless of his troubles. With me there, the wild haze will not have its chance to surface...if it does, I am the only one who he cannot bear to harm. Trust me and go ahead to the Dunes, we will join you soon."

"Then...fly swift and fly safe." Everon finally gave in, heaving a sigh.

Neveah nodded once and then passed a fond glance to Tara, before she strode out to the landing platform. Glancing around, it took just a moment before Xenon’s massive dragon form landed on the platform, his amber orbs fixed on Neveah.

For a moment, Neveah just stared in momentary awe. Xenon’s great size was always a sight to behold, unmatched by any other dragon. He was the largest and strongest dragon in existence and for good reason.

A low growl rumbled in Xenon’s chest, his onyx scales blended perfectly with the darkness of the night, and it was no wonder Neveah had not even noticed him till he landed.

Neveah walked over, reaching a hand out to Xenon. Xenon tucked in his wings and lowered his large head, nuzzling Neveah’s hand.

Xenon’s scale was cold to touch, still, a warm jolt crept through Neveah the moment she touched him.

Neveah ran her hand over the rough scales, her gaze reflecting her awe and adoration, a small smile lit up her face when Xenon growled lowly in approval.

"My love, do you still fear flight?" Xenon’s voice sounded in Neveah’s mind, a low hum.

Neveah pursed her lips slightly, it had been a long time since she had ridden a dragon. She moved closer, leaning her head against Xenon’s, she spread her arms as far around his large head as they could go.

Warmth blossomed in her heart and surged through her veins, with an intensity and intimacy that would hardly be achieved in human form. "No...not anymore." Neveah assured quietly, her eyes going closed.

"Veah, when... Jian returns, I... want to seal my bond with you. It pains me that I cannot give you the first two merges... only my heart, my vow and hope that you will complete the third with me." Xenon’s voice sounded in Neveah’s mind again.

Xenon’s first merging, the piece of his flame to give away had already been given to his first rider and his true mate.

The second merging, Xenon’s scale and the only piece of him that could be recovered after Misha’s death was already bound to Jian and could not be retrieved.

The third merging, Neveah had never heard what it was until she received word that Menarx had completed all three mergings with Jian’s blessings and whispers spread through Dune Castle.

"Xenon... what you cannot give me, is only what you do not have. All that you have, you have given and it is more than enough...it will always be. So do not feel guilty to me, or think you are doing me an injustice because you are not."

"There is nothing I would want more than for you, to make me yours... completely. Heart, soul... and body, the first two are already yours, the third...is yours to claim when you wish it." Neveah replied quietly.

Xenon made a low, rumbling sound, and they remained in silence for a moment before Neveah pulled away. "We should go, we must be at Scabbard as soon as possible."

Neveah moved away from Xenon and carefully made her way up to settle on his back in a manner that had become so familiar to her.
