Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 719: The Coming Days ()
The doors came open just as Xenon and Neveah returned to the front of the hall.
Verothrax strode into the hall, and he was accompanied by Ida, which was not surprising. Both seemed attached at the hip since the first moment Neveah had set eyes on them.
If nothing else, the sight eased Neveah, she had found it unsettling that Ida was so curious about her and her relationship with Xenon.
"This is no place for an outsider." Xenon stated crossly, he barely spared a glance to Ida before he fixed Verothrax with a glare.
Verothrax tilted his head to the side at Xenon’s words. But glanced over at Ida, nodding slightly to her.
Ida retreated from the hall quietly and the doors went shut. Neveah stared at the doors for a moment, she waited until she heard Ida’s footsteps retreating, only then did she return her attention to the group.
"Lord Verothrax, you were roused from slumber to serve by Jian’s side in the recovery of Fort Blazed. Your primary duty was to destroy the death gale... but instead, you crashed a void into our world, creating a canyon and trapping the death gale at the borders of the Dunes, resulting in a deadly miasma." Neveah began.
Verothrax winced visibly at Neveah’s choice of words but he said nothing.
"In so doing, you endangered the lives of Your Liege and his elite, Lord Xenon, Lords Garron and Conrad, as well as Lord Everon who were all caught in the miasma, as well as thousands of innocent citizens of Dune City whose borders are now plagued with an unending threat of the canyon spreading." Neveah continued.
"I... I have no excuses." Verothrax said, lowering his head slightly.
"You should. The responsibility of all that has happened in the past months is one you cannot be exempt from, but if there is more to it than we are aware of... now would be the time to say something." Neveah said,
A hiss of pain from Imagor interrupted her and Neveah glanced over to him. Heaving a quiet sigh, she walked over to Imagor and snatched the small blade on his belt.
Using the blade, Neveah sliced her palm open much to Xenon and even Imagor’s horror.
"It will help you heal... my kind may not have much on yours, but we heal a lot faster." Neveah explained, gesturing for Imagor to lift his shirt.
Imagor passed a cautious look to Xenon before he complied, lifting his shirt.
Neveah clenched her hand to a fist to force the blood flow, her blood dripped all over Imagor’s charred midriff, sizzling lightly and Imagor hissed lowly.
Neveah held her hand over it till the blood flow stopped of its own accord and she lifted her now healed palm to Imagor’s view then gestured at his rapidly healing midriff.
"Scales... you’re a walking remedy." Kirgan muttered in awe.
"Do not get any ideas." Xenon warned.
Neveah returned to her place and nodded to Verothrax.
"Well?" She asked.
"It was Lodenworth’s woman." Verothrax accused directly, not even hesitating for a moment.
"You cannot just say that!" Adrienne exclaimed.
Verothrax did not even glance over at her, he crossed his arms over his chest.
"I know fairy magic when I sense it and it is currently within me. It contradicts mine, it was very well thought out on her end... because the void would have crashed right on me had Xenon not arrived in time. If I am taken out, there would be absolutely no traces."
"It was not only done with malicious intent but was an attempt on my life. Now I do not care what the council plans to do about it, but I will kill her." Verothrax stated simply.
"I’m certain Keila would have an explanation! You can’t just conclude this without hearing from her!" Adrienne interrupted again, rising to her feet.
"We have sent for her... have we not? This will be sorted out tomorrow, it will take at least a day for them to get here." Everon replied with a sigh, rubbing his temples.
The situation was quite unsettling for everyone present, not so much Neveah since she had always been suspicious of the Fae sisters.
"In the meantime, Kirgan... examine Mount Edar for anything out of the ordinary, any traces of how the sorcerer portaled there." Neveah said to Kirgan
"Everyone else...get some rest. We will need it to present this before the council." Neveah murmured,
Menarx got up to his feet to leave and his gaze momentarily met Neveah’s, Neveah’s brows furrowed, conveying a warning with her eyes.
They both knew more about the Fae sisters than they had let on and Neveah’s gaze was a warning, that Menarx would need to own up to all that had happened in the dungeons.
Menarx and Adrienne left first and Imagor was quick to excuse himself soon, after, most likely eager to return to the side of his rider and son.
Verothrax and Kirgan also left and Everon walked up to Neveah.
"Do you think it really has been Keila all along...?" Everon asked, referring to the suspicions Neveah had always harbored.
"There is no such thing as a coincidence...and a couple of them, well..." Neveah left her words hanging, intent on not accusing anyone.
"If it is so... regardless of if Lodenworth is in on it or not, the coming days will not be easy on any of us." Everon muttered.
Neveah understood the unspoken statement, Lodenworth was a key figure in the stronghold, the captain of the city guards and he was held in high regard.
If he was in on it, the betrayal would wreck the entire stronghold. If he was not, he would be an unfortunate victim caught in between a looming cross-fire.
There was no path that was easy, Xenon’s experience had given the dragons an unforgettable example.
"We will handle it as it comes to us. Get some rest, Ron." Neveah encouraged.
Everon nodded and passed a look to Xenon.
"Come by when you have some time, I will check up on your overall state." Everon said and then he flashed Neveah a smile before he took his leave.
Soon it was just Neveah and Xenon left behind in the hall.
