Chapter 657: Hijacked (Ch.658)

"Decaron..." Everon warned in a tone of displeasure.

"The hidden archives have been compromised. I returned to the Keep in a rush, leaving behind pressing duties... I did not wish to believe it. You know as well as I do that there is no justifiable reason to break our laws." Decaron confronted directly.

By rank and bloodline, Everon was superior to Decaron and by all rights, in a hierarchical race like that of the beasts of Asvar, Decaron directly challenging Everon was considered a disrespect.

However situations like this were the exception, Decaron was just doing his duty, even if it would not help their cause.

"Whatever punishment Your Eminence deems suitable for my actions today, I will accept it without question. But I will have that returned to its place or I will take it away myself." Decaron did not back down.

"Decaron, I do not know what you have heard but you need to calm down. There is more to this than you realise and you are not doing any of us any good at this moment." Neveah said, she took a step forward but Everon stretched a hand out to block her path.

Neveah got the message and stayed put, there was no coaxing Decaron.

If Neveah was to reveal the truth about Jian’s order, Decaron would have just one response,

’Present the case before the rider council and abide by their decision.’

Neveah did not think Decaron would doubt her words, he was just duty bound to be most cautious of everything and everyone in Jian’s absence.

"And if I insist on getting past you?" Everon asked with a raised brow.

Decaron did not respond, but he did not move from where he stood which made it quite clear what he intended to do.

The tension was swiftly rising between the two Dragon Lords, much to Neveah’s dismay. Everon’s stance had changed, it was not often Neveah got to see Everon agitated.

But the pressure was getting to everyone at this point, each party had reasons to stand their ground and Decaron was in the dark about Neveah’s communication to Jian.

"I have been away from the Keep for a few months and everyone seems to have fallen out of order." Everon murmured, his gaze narrowed.

Decaron clearly did not appreciate those words and his brows narrowed.

"Everon..." Neveah began to deter Everon but Everon prevented her.

"Get to the landing platform, leave with Tara. I will not be far behind." Everon said to Neveah,

He handed the satchel to Neveah and Neveah could see Decaron’s gaze trailing the exchange.

Neveah did not favour the present situation, it was why she had been so insistent on keeping everything on the low.

’Veah, we have to do what we must. Jian will need us soon.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded her.

Neveah took the satchel and slung it over her shoulder, and as Decaron’s eyes met hers, Neveah’s gaze was apologetic.

"Your eminence, I cannot comprehend what you are doing at this moment." Decaron said warily.

He knew clearly that Everon would be able to prevent him from hindering Neveah and he had not come with backup at this moment.

"Then do not." Everon replied.

Everon stepped fully out of the ascending room, and Decaron backed away slowly, his gaze moved between Neveah and Everon.

"Lady Neveah, it is unlike you to avoid confrontation. If you have reasons for this, I believe it is right you face the council and make your case... Leaving like this will make everything more complicated." Decaron switched tactics to convincing Neveah.

"Veah, leave!" Everon said firmly, his gaze daring Decaron to make a sudden move.

"Neveah! Below this mountain is prowling with dark sorcerers! Lying in wait for the item you carry! You cannot possibly protect what you hold from the black network! Will you truly hand it over to them?! What could be so important that you would risk leaving the safety of Dragon Keep with that?!" Decaron hissed.

Neveah stared between Decaron and Everon for a moment, Decaron’s words were not wrong, this was a great risk. It was like walking straight into a trap by the black network, Neveah could possibly lose Asrig’s writings to them for good.

"I apologise." Neveah said to Decaron.

She turned and dashed down the hall, just as Decaron lunged at Everon.

Neveah did not look back, she darted straight for the landing platform and was there in a short time.

Imagor who stood waiting was the first to notice Neveah approaching. Tara who had been pacing anxiously hurried over to meet Neveah, her eyes scanned Neveah from head to toe.

"What happened? Why did it take so long? Where is Everon?" Tara asked Neveah anxiously.

"He will not be joining us." Neveah said to Tara, before turning her attention to Imagor.

"You have heard word from Kirgan?" Neveah asked knowingly.

Imagor nodded once to indicate he knew the Keep would perhaps be under attack in any moment.

"I must return to my duties, you should leave first."

"Portals do not hold on Keep grounds, this is specially forged but it will not hold long. Leave now, it will take you as far as the White Dunes." Imagor said to Neveah.

His gaze trailed to the satchel Neveah carried, without a word said, Imagor smashed the portal artifact he held.

However, just as the tear in space was formed, they were first greeted by a ferocious growl and a large boulder flying straight through the portal.

"Imagor! Get out of the way!" Neveah yelled, dashing forwards.

Imagor ducked swiftly and the boulder flew over his head, crashing into the wall.

Neveah’s eyes widened as a monstrous limb crossed the portal next.

"Kobolds! The portal has been hijacked!" Imagor hissed.

"What are you waiting for?! Burn it!" Neveah yelled to Imagor who took a battle stance.

"That will destroy the portal! You will not be able to leave!" Imagor yelled.

"Leave and go where?! Straight into their hands?! Burn it!" Neveah roared.
