Chapter 630: Source 4 (Ch.631)

"Also, there is a good chance the dark sorcerer behind the contamination is still within Scabbard..." Neveah added.

Lord Mycroft’s hands clenched tightly around the armrest of his chair.

"Lord Menarx, I will trouble you to find the source of the contamination." Lord Mycroft requested.

"The residues of dark magic are only visible to Neveah’s eyes. There is not much Menarx can do." Everon pointed out.

Lord Mycroft’s gaze reluctantly moved to Neveah. There was still a thick tension, given that it was still uncertain if Lord Mycroft intended to reveal what he had seen about Neveah to the other great lords.

"Lady Neveah, if it is only visible to your eyes, then I request your aid as Lord of Scabbard." Lord Mycroft requested, despite his reluctance.

"I will owe you a favour." Lord Mycroft added.

"It is no favor. Do what you must, as will I... restoring the peace of Fort Scabbard is the priority." Neveah clarified.

"We would not mind the favor too." Everon added, ignoring the glare Neveah passed him.

"Atticus, return to your duty post, we will see to the rest from here. Once this is settled, I will ensure you have all the Iron husk roots and beet vines you need to restore the infected to health." Neveah assured.

"I knew My Lady would find a solution the very moment I saw you. You have never failed at that... one might say you are the Creator’s favorite, with you comes his light." Atticus said in barely concealed anticipation.

Neveah was taken aback by that, she had never once considered herself to be favored by the Creator, it was in fact the opposite...

Atticus bowed low and then took his leave swiftly from the hall.

"Will you require any aid? Whatever you need." Lord Mycroft asked Neveah. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"I have all the help I need." Neveah said.

Lord Mycroft nodded, he seemed about to say something but decided against it, continuing on his way whilst giving orders.

"Rally all scabbard dragons, I want this city overturned if that is what it takes to get to that damned sorcerer!"

"Narx, I think you should accompany Lord Mycroft. You will stand a better chance of tracking the sorcerer down." Neveah suggested.

"I thought the same...stay out of trouble." Menarx said to Neveah in a serious tone.

"When do I ever not?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.

Menarx scoffed beneath his breath, Adrienne came up to his side and he stretched a hand out to her instinctively, interlocking their fingers.

Neveah could not help but notice it and a ghost of a smile settled on her lips.

Menarx would always intentionally keep a distance from Adrienne in Neveah’s presence, even after all this time...but there were times it happened so naturally and unconsciously, much like this.

"When are you ever not in trouble, you mean." Menarx adjusted.

There was a way out for Scabbard in sight and the mood was much lighter in the hall.

"If you are in trouble, call for me... I will recognise your voice, as long as I’m up in the skies... the distance is no matter." Menarx stated seriously.

"I will be accompanying her, what exactly do you take me for?" Everon asked in bafflement.

"Scream? How will I ever hold my head up high again if I do that?" Neveah asked with a scoff.

"You speak like you do not already know Neveah." Adrienne said quietly.

Menarx chuckled at that, nodding his head, he strode out, hand in hand with his rider.

Neveah exchanged a look with Everon before she shrugged casually.

"I am fine." Neveah said with a roll of her eyes.

Everyone always expected her and Menarx to be awkward in each other’s company, but Neveah was glad that it was truly in the past now, for both of them...it had been truly in the past for a long time already.

What was left now was trust and camaraderie, and Neveah was grateful for it.

"What now?" Tara asked.

"Dante, the water supply channels, where do they all lead to?" Neveah asked.

"There are several, but the largest that supplies the majority of the city is a water purifying mechanism at the waterfall, from there, various aqueducts spread out to grand cisterns that store and disperse the water through the water pipes. " Dante explained to Neveah.

"That is where we seek out a trail. We should take a portal... seeing as flight is not a possibility." Neveah said, gesturing for Dante to lead the way.

Dante headed out and the group followed behind him.

They made a stop at the armory where Dante retrieved portal artifacts before they headed out to the courtyard.

Dante tossed out a portal artifact to the ground and as it shattered, a portal roared to life.

Dante stepped through the portal first and then Neveah went in after.

As always, Neveah gritted her teeth against the unsettling effect of the portal, her insides churning.

Stepping out to the other side, Neveah sucked in a deep breath to ease her discomfort before she glanced around their environment.

They were in the midst of a forest and Neveah could hear the sound of a raging waterfall from up ahead.

When the group was complete and the portal shut itself up, Dante began leading the way through the woods.

They soon arrived at the waterfall where a gigantic water wheel structure had been built into the rocks, rolling powerfully.

"The water wheel is adapted to a drive mechanism for pumping and moving the water in the aqueducts and canals. It mostly facilitates the movement of water, and supplies water to the city." Dante explained to Neveah.

"This is the point from which it branches out into the aqueducts?" Neveah asked.

Dante nodded. Neveah walked over to the edge of the stream below the waterfall, crouching down slightly, she stared intently into the stream.

As expected, the entire stream revealed signs of the same strange black matter she had seen previously.

Neveah dipped a hand into the water, her brows scrunching up as some of the black matter swirled around her hand.

Though Neveah could confirm that the water here was also infected, she did not sense the presence of potent dark magic, not even when she touched the water.

Neveah still took some time inspecting around the edge of the water, but even a short while later, she still did not find anything that struck her as proof of a spell of dark sorcery.

"This is not it... the water is also contaminated, but this is not the source." Neveah said with a shake of her head.
