Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 514: Overthinking ()
"Where is she?" Jian demanded as he stormed right into Kaideon’s office,
His expression was dark with rage, a rare change on his usually blank and expressionless face.
Jian had discovered that just as Xenon had said, Neveah was not in her quarters where he had left her.
More than that, she was nowhere around the Dune Castle too. Her scent was long faded, it was clear she had left the castle the very moment Jian had turned his back on her.
Like she had just been waiting for him to be out of sight so she could run for the hills.
A thousand thoughts had crossed Jian’s mind in that moment.
Had he done something wrong already? Said something wrong?
Jian admitted he was pretty talented in that regard... saying the wrong things to Neveah.
But this time, Jian was certain he had not said anything awful.
Or was it so distasteful to Neveah that she was bonded to him that she would rather leave?
For how long?
Jian was never one to overthink situations or make guesses, he never had to.
No one dared place Jian in a situation where he would have to make guesses, no one lived long enough to.
But now, Jian did not even know what to think. The only thing he knew was that up until yesterday, Neveah had detested him... and rightly so.
’Had nothing changed even now?’ Jian wondered in dismay.
Jian did not expect Neveah to let go off all his wrongs overnight, and many wrongs he had done, Jian knew it better than anyone.
But Neveah had told him he had to explain...did that not mean she would give him the time to make it up to her? Or at least hear him out, silly as his reasons may be?
Or had Jian just gotten it all wrong?
Jian knew that he was being silly, perhaps Neveah had just gone out on a walk and had strayed so far from the dune castle that her scent trail had dispersed.
But knowing Neveah’s willfulness, Jian’s mind constantly replayed that scene of her jumping right off a cliff with no ounce of fear, when he had said some wrong words.
Neveah was one who only ever did as she pleased, had he been too much for her to handle already?
Jian’s predator churned restlessly and he was torn between rage and concern for Neveah’s well being.
This was not the right time for Neveah to be out and about the dune city all by herself, not when word of her magical ability was spreading like wildfire through the stronghold.
The thought of it greatly unsettled Jian and he had gone in search of Kaideon without delay, if anyone would know where Neveah had gone to, it would be Kaideon.
Jian found the dune lord seated in his office, going through a file.
Kaideon raised a brow at Jian’s question.
"I do not know." Kaideon replied.
"If you did not know where she was, you would not be so calm." Jian contradicted, his tone daring Kaideon to refute his words.
Kaideon sighed, leaning back on his chair as he regarded Jian in silence for a moment.
"I know she is safe and in need of some quiet time. She will return when she wishes to." Kaideon said. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
’When she wished to?’ Jian thought to himself.
Did that not mean that there was a possibility that Neveah did not wish to return at all?
"You might be fine with that, but I am not." Jian made clear.
Jian knew for certain that if Neveah wanted to escape him, Kaideon would be more than willing to assist her.
"Kaideon, I want to know where she is and I am not asking." Jian demanded.
Kaideon frowned slightly, his brows twitching in annoyance.
"I need to make sure she is okay...my predator will not settle, otherwise." Jian tried again,
Kaideon sighed quietly, he could understand the predicament Jian was in, being a dragon himself.
For a newly found bond, it was impossible for dragons to be apart from their bonded for a long period of time in the early stages of the bond.
Kaideon knew he had not been able to leave Eira’s side for weeks without his predator throwing a fit.
The bond did not have the same effect on their partners as it did on dragons and this was the complexity of the bond, that it was different to each person.
But for dragons, it was always more intense...it was why they could hardly ever settle for any other bond no matter how long they had to wait to find their true bonded.
Nothing could compare to a true bond, this was the inarguable truth.
"Knowing Veah... she probably went off to the forest at the city’s edge. She is more at peace amongst nature and that is the only path she could take without going through the city." Kaideon revealed.
Jian nodded gratefully and took his leave, not at all surprised to find Xenon leaned against the wall down the hallway the very moment he stepped out of Kaideon’s office.
Xenon’s gaze lingered on Jian for a moment in silence before he gestured for Jian to move past him.
"I cannot shift yet or I might lose consciousness again."
"I came only to remind you to keep your predator in check lest you terrify Veah even more...your gaze is almost as feral as mine and there are sparks coming off your hands." Xenon pointed out.
Jian sucked in a deep breath, although it did not do much to ease his mind, his predator would not be at ease till he laid eyes on Neveah, made sure she was okay and reassure himself that she was not contemplating leaving him.
"You need to see her just a tad bit more than I do. Go on then, bring her home." Xenon said with a small nod.
Jian grunted beneath his breath but went on his way without protesting.
