Chapter 511: Conscious (Ch.512)

"The day has undoubtedly been eventful for us all. And I believe it is already apparent that changes must be effected to the light hall and Asvarian Beacon with no delay."

"Furthermore, there is more concerns that face the dunes. Hence, the dune enforcers will reconvene at dawn, until then, see to it that the citizens are calmed and settled. At the least, this storm is passed." Jian ordered the rest of the dune enforcers to disperse.

He then turned and took his leave, heading out of the hall and down the hallways of the dune castle.

Jian did not go back in the direction he had originally come from, he had asked Neveah to take some time to clear her head and he knew Kaideon was the only person she wished to see at this moment.

Instead, Jian headed to the hallway that housed the guest rooms in the dune city, where he knew Xenon rested.

Jian was yet to pay Xenon a visit, but he had sent Cassian to him all the while he was at Neveah’s side, that way he was certain Xenon was also recovering well.

Cassian had dutifully updated Jian on Xenon’s condition, though Xenon was yet to regain consciousness, he would be fine.

Jian knew Cassian still had a dozen questions, especially about the mark on Xenon’s neck and what that would mean for Jian and Neveah, but he had been prudent enough not to ask them yet.

Though Jian knew that would not last long, soon, not just Cassian but the rest of his brothers would find out, if they had not already...

They would have the very same questions, and before he could answer to everyone else, Jian and Xenon would need to find the answer first.

Jian soon arrived at the door to the room he knew was occupied by Xenon, he did not bother knocking but pushed the door open gently, stepping inside before he closed the door behind him.

Jian paused for a moment by the door, sensing the change in the aura the moment he had stepped in.

Jian then spun around, arching a brow to find Xenon laid on the bed, fast asleep...or seemingly so.

"If that welcome is anything to go by, we both know you are very conscious Xenon." Jian stated in his characteristic monotone.

Jian scoffed beneath his breath when Xenon’s eyes came open and he turned his head to fix Jian with a death glare.

"How long have you been conscious?" Jian asked.

"A while..." Xenon replied.

Jian ignored Xenon’s glare as he walked over to the bed but paused halfway to spin out of the way as Xenon lunged at him in the blink of an eye.

"Really, Xenon?" Jian asked with a raised brow but he had not even gotten his words out completely when Xenon attacked again.

Jian flipped over, side stepping Xenon’s attack, but Xenon was fast and launched another attack the next moment, his leg launched out in a powerful kick that Jian only escaped narrowly.

Xenon’s attacks did not relent and Jian took on the defensive, deflecting and blocking, much to Xenon’s annoyance.

Xenon lunged again in the next moment, his claws heading straight for Jian’s throat.

Jian saw it coming, but this time, he did not dodge. He stood in place, staring at Xenon with a raised brow.

Xenon stopped, when his claws were just an inch from Jian’s throat.

"What? You think I cannot harm you?" Xenon questioned Jian’s relaxed state.

"Think’ is not the word. I know you cannot harm me, Xenon." Jian replied confidently, brushing Xenon’s hand away with a roll of his eyes.

"I did it before..." Xenon pointed out.

Jian was momentarily surprised that Xenon had made reference to that event from the past, but he responded nevertheless.

"You did try... and how did that turn out for you?" Jian asked,

"Arrogant bastard." Xenon muttered beneath his breath, but audibly enough so Jian would hear him.

"I am King, arrogance is but one of my many accessories." Jian said with a casual shrug.

He stared pointedly at Xenon, gesturing for Xenon to get back to the bed.

He had noticed Xenon was still weak and had forced himself up a moment ago. It was already an accomplishment to have regained consciousness this quickly.

"You are not as fast or strong, I had no difficulty dodging your attacks. It might be a while before you are fully recovered, I did not realize wolf venom could have such effect." Juan murmured.

"Neither did I, those teeth are more lethal than they look." Xenon agreed with a shake of his head.

Xenon walked back over to his bed and threw himself face down on it with an annoyed grunt.

"Something tells me you may not be in the best of moods." Jian concluded, pulling a chair over to sit by the side.

"May? I lose consciousness for a day...is it not a little to soon to inherit my legacy? I am not even dead yet." Xenon accused, turning over so he could carry on glaring at Jian.

"You know..." Jian confirmed what he had already suspected from the moment Xenon had welcomed him quite unkindly.

Xenon’s gaze was pointed and he did not deny Jian’s words.

"But how?" Jian asked in bafflement.

"It was not Cassian, the poor lad was so out of it, he did not even realize I was conscious." Xenon muttered.

"Then? It could not have been the dune dragons. They know whoever first presents that information would have that as his last words." Jian pondered aloud.

"Xenon..." Jian pressed when Xenon remained silent.

"In the cave...you were asleep and mistook Veah for the woman in your dreams, only it wasn’t a mistake..." Xenon began.

"Veah did not suspect a thing when your nightmares faded away, but I did...it was only a suspicion then, that something was off..."

"I can feel you through our bond... In same manner, I can feel her, albeit faintly... and what do you reckon would happen when you both feel the very same intense emotion at the exact same time?" Xenon asked,

The look in his eyes was complicated and Jian was at a loss for words.

Somewhere along the line, he must have let himself forget... perhaps because he had never had much of such emotions in the first place.

Jian had let himself forget that Xenon could feel his most intense emotions, just as he could feel Xenon’s.

And while he had considered a thousand times on how to break it to Xenon, what was Jian to say now that he knew Xenon had already realized it at the same time that Jian himself had?
