Chapter 476: Calm (Ch.477)

Tara was quiet for a moment, just staring at Neveah and then she said something that was completely off topic.

"Your eyes...they won’t stop glowing..." Tara pointed out quietly.

Neveah exhaled heavily, her eyes going closed. She leaned her head back and timed her breathing, hoping to ease her mind so that foreign presence would retreat.

And after a moment, it did...but just when Neveah was going to pull her mind block up against it, she heard the final whisper of that haunting voice.

"You cannot block me out forever, Omega... I am a part of you now, and I always will be..." Said the voice, it’s words echoing in Neveah’s mind as it retreated to the back of her mind.

Neveah breathed a sigh that was part relief and part wariness.

Relief that this episode had passed without getting too far, and wariness because she knew well enough that all that voice had said was nothing but the truth.

It had been over a year already since that voice first made it’s presence known in Neveah’s mind and with each day that had passed, it had merged itself with Neveah’s soul.

She could practically feel that foreign presence eating away at her subconscious, becoming one with her and Neveah did know, it would not be long now till it would break out.

Till she would lose control of it, and what would that mean? Neveah had absolutely no idea.

"Calm?" Tara asked Neveah cautiously.

"Would it matter?" Neveah asked back.

"You are going to want to be calm to hear this..." Tara added hesitantly.

Neveah’s eyes snapped open, fixing Tara with a look.

"Other than the parchment...there is something else you should know..." Tara began, studying Neveah’s expression for a moment before she continued.

"The messenger who delivered the parchment, he did not come alone... I was ordered not to say anything...but I need to give you a heads up..." Tara’s words were interrupted by Neveah.

"I think it is a little too late for that..." Neveah murmured as her gaze settled on a familiar face who stepped out from a hallway right behind Tara.

"Little wolf..." Xenon said, a small smile on his lips and a glint of mischief in those onyx black orbs.

Neveah could have sworn, she felt her heart stop and though it resumed it’s beats again the very next moment, Neveah was left completely breathless.

"Xenon..." Neveah whispered.

And then, as though she had broken out of a daze, Neveah turned around and stormed away, leaving behind a helpless looking Xenon.

Xenon pushed open the door to King Jian’s study, pausing in his step when his gaze landed on Menarx who was already seated.

Menarx was not the only one, Kirgan, Imagor, Cassian and King Jian himself were all present, and all eyes were fixed on Xenon the moment he stepped in.

Xenon’s gaze narrowed slightly, his brows twitching which was the only indication of his displeasure.

"Excuse me, My Liege." Xenon excused himself, turning around to take his leave.

"Xenon... Xenon! Come on, brother!" Kirgan exclaimed in frustration, hurrying to stop Xenon before he could leave.

Kirgan blocked Xenon’s path, placing a hand on his shoulder to keep him from moving any further.

"And that is supposed to stop me?" Xenon asked in a blank tone, glancing down at Kirgan’s hand held out to prevent him from leaving.

"One can say I am most adept at holding my ground. What are you going to do? Break my arm? Toss me away? Because that is the only way you are getting out of here." Kirgan said in a matter of fact tone.

Xenon growled low in his throat but said nothing more, settling for a chilling cold glare.

"Would you just sit for a moment, Xenon? That is not so great of an ask." Imagor reasoned with an exasperated sigh.

"What is this supposed to be? An intervention of some sort? I am not interested in whatever this is." Xenon clarified, still glaring down an adamant Kirgan.

"Xenon...sit." King Jian ordered in a firm tone.

Xenon hissed beneath his breath, retreating with a frown, he took a sit, leaning back.

"I’m sitting." Xenon said in a gruff tone, earning himself a withering glare from King Jian.

"Watch it." King Jian warned.

Xenon sucked in a sharp breath, but nodded in understanding.

"It has been two months... and in these past months, I have waited both patiently and impatiently for the two of you to resolve your differences." King Jian began.

"We are fine..." Menarx began to say but King Jian cut him off.

"Let me finish!" King Jian warned.

"Menarx made a mess...so did you! Neither of you are in any position to act out!"

"This silent discord has to stop... and I do not care how or through what means this is going to be achieved, but I will get my Keep back on the right track." King Jian made clear.

"The case involving the trade of magical ability and it’s ties to the Fae race, I am leaving it to you two." King Jian announced.

"My Liege..." Menarx began to say but shut himself up when King Jian fixed him with a deadly glare.

"And... while this case is being resolved, none of you are permitted to make any personal trips...in short, neither of you are allowed anywhere near the White Dunes." King Jian made clear.

"You cannot be serious..." Xenon muttered in disbelief.

"Do I look like I am jesting?" King Jian shot back.

"I do not care if it takes a month, a year or a decade! And I am not asking! Till the case is resolved, you will keep your attention on your duties and find some way to work together..."

"Caught between the two of you and your silliness, I finally understand how Neveah must have felt and why she ran off at the first chance. I have had enough of this madness." King Jian finished.
