Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 457: Two Emotions ()
Alessio soon arrived at the hidden chambers where the rogue warlock Karan awaited him.
"And here I was thinking I would have to write an official appeal for your presence... now that you are crowned Alpha King." Karan took a jab at Alessio’s belated arrival which was expected of the unyielding warlock.
"It would do you much good to desist from provoking me, Karan. You are only useful to me when you are within control." Alessio relayed in a blank tone.
"What is it... the hundredth time you have posed a death threat? Makes one wonder why I still live." Karan replied with an unfazed eye roll.
Alessio’s lips pulled back in a snarl but he withheld his rage at Karan’s next words.
"I could always return to my cell, if you are uninterested in hearing of my most recent... breakthrough." Karan suggested.
Alessio’s brows twitched in annoyance but he did not say anything more, settling for walking past Karan.
"Right that way." Karan murmured with a roll of his eyes as he followed behind Alessio.
Alessio walked over to the ice platform, the temperature in the hidden chambers was still chilling cold and a vast difference from the temperature outside, but Alessio had been here enough times to have grown accustomed.
As always, the body of the woman was laid on the platform, still perfectly still and frozen cold, it was exactly the same situation as it had been the last time Alessio had visited.
"I do not see any changes, Karan." Alessio pointed out in displeasure after a moment of quietly observing the body.
"You never did give me your decision...on if the spell is to be lifted or otherwise." Karan replied.
"That is to say you have found a method to lift the spell?" Alessio asked, glancing over at Karan.
"I can only wish. I was just providing a reminder." Karan said with a casual shrug.
Alessio frowned, his gaze narrowing to a cold glare.
"Of what use is my decision to you if you do not have a method to execute it?" Alessio demanded.
"Yet... I do not have a method yet. It has only been a short time since you were crowned king, equally a short time since you brought me here."
"I believe I have mentioned this is a complex situation involving a very powerful and very ancient spell...if you want answers on such short notice, you should try with whoever cast the spell in the first place. " Karan replied directly.
Alessio willed himself to calm, Karan was naturally aggravating and if one took his every action to heart, he would have already been killed a thousand times over.
But Alessio knew despite his distaste for the rogue warlock, Karan was a formidable warlock, if Alessio could not get his hands on the witch who originally cast the spell, Karan was the next best option.
"Why am I here, Karan?" Alessio asked with an annoyed sigh.
Karan smirked slightly, knowing well enough what it took Alessio to rein in his wrath.
"Now that you ask..." Karan began, walking closer to the platform so he stood beside Alessio, gazing down at the woman.
Karan reached for her closed eyes and pried on of them open, gesturing for Alessio to take a look .
"I do not see anything." Alessio said after a moment, passing a dirty look to Karan.
"Look closer..." Karan insisted.
Alessio complied, returning his gaze to the glassy, lifeless orb of the woman.
As Alessio had seen before, all that stared back at him were the eyes of one dead, blank and lifeless.
However, just when Alessio was going to look away, he caught the slightest glimmer reflect through the orbs of the woman.
"What... what was that? What does it mean?" Alessio asked, glancing over to Karan expectantly.
"I’m not sure..." Karan began to say but trailed off at Alessio’s ugly expression.
"But I do have a theory." Karan added.
"I’m listening." Alessio said.
"Remember when I told you the spell is one that binds the soul to the body even in death?" Karan asked.
Alessio nodded in response, he had not been able to forget anything that had happened since he first laid eyes on his father’s most carefully hidden secret.
"I had thought the soul was merely locked in, with no awareness whatsoever but I now have reason to believe that is wrong." Karan continued.
"The glow in her eyes is a sign indicating the presence of a soul in this body, with its awareness intact...as the saying goes, there is as much death in life as there is life in death." Karan relayed.
"I do not understand anything you have just said." Alessio said in confusion.
"You are not familiar with magic and so it is hard for you to grasp concepts that tread on the lines of life and death. For however long the Lady has been in this state, her soul has constantly tried to recover life or be freed in death... whichever provides a finality."
"And in so doing, at the very final moments when the events of life are relived in a flash, that was when the spell had been cast."
"It was not the intention of the caster for certain, but the timing was such that a sliver of her consciousness was protected, right in the final moment of reliving memories of her past." Karan explained.
"You mean..." Alessio trailed off, till not completely clear.
"What I mean to say is, at this very moment, the final strand of consciousness of this woman is stuck constantly relieving memories of her past."
"And that final strand changes, if we can somehow lay hands on it before lifting the spell, there is a greater chance that she will live." Karan made his point.
"What must be done then? To recover that lost consciousness?" Alessio asked eagerly.
"You see, that is where it gets a little tricky... that most certain method is triggering the two most extreme emotions that she has ever felt, intense hate... and overwhelming love."
"And to this, it would require the presence of the two people who caused both emotions...so would you have any idea of who the lady hates the most and who she loves the most?" Karan asked sheepishly.
Alessio express changed visibly, how could he not know?
"The one she hates the most, my father, Lothaire. And her most beloved daughter...Neveah." Alessio murmured to himself.
