Chapter 193: Harsh Words (Ch.193)

Estelle was up on her feet the very next moment, wiping away her tears in a haste.

Estelle had also forgotten that Lord Starron had made it clear the item entrusted to her care was to be delivered to Dragon Keep.

Originally, Ranjor, Lord Starron’s second in command would make the flight if Estelle could get the box to him.

But Lord Starron also said if Ranjor could not make the flight, Estelle would have to deliver it herself.

At the mention of Keep Skies, Lord Starron’s instructions which Estelle had somehow let herself forget came back to her and she knew exactly what she had to do.

As though her father could predict this scenario, he already left Estelle with the appropriate directions...to fly south and report to the Dragon King.

Estelle’s eyes narrowed in determination, her hands clenching into tight fists.

"Our Liege will never let them off for setting eyes on my father and Fort Blazed... the King’s guard will raze the black network to the ground and make it all right!" Estelle murmured with certainty as she turned to Dante.

"We must hasten to arrive Dragon Keep as soon as we can. If we take flight now, we should arrive in seven days."

"But considering you are known for your flight speed, perhaps we may even arrive sooner if we fly without rest... five days at most." Estelle calculated the distance mentally.

"Take flight?" Dante asked in slight surprise, as though Estelle’s words were unexpected.

"Take flight. You are one of the fastest dragons of Fort Scabbard, you will take me to Dragon Keep Dante... what else?" Estelle asked absentmindedly.

Dante raised a brow slightly, crossing his arms over his chest as he shook his head once.

"No... I can’t." Dante replied blankly.

"What do you mean no?" Estelle demanded in bafflement before it came to her and she heaved a sigh.

"Dante... I know we both are not on the best terms with the proposal and everything and after..." Estelle trailed off for a moment, reluctant to mention the severing.

"After that...you would feel unwilling to let just anyone ride your dragon form, but it has no meaning if we attach none to it." Estelle reasoned.

Dante’s expression remained unchanged at Estelle’s words.

"Fort Blazed is in danger Dante, will you just watch the black network get away with this?! Is this even the time to overthink this?! Do you think I want to be in this situation?!" Estelle snapped in frustration.

"I do not like your tone, Lady Starron." Dante warned, his brows furrowed into a frown.

Estelle sucked in a deep breath to reign in her anger and frustration, she could not believe Dante was being difficult at such a critical time.

Riding a dragon had a deep significance, Estelle also knew this but it was the only option they had at this moment.

"Dante... this is about my father, my family. Fort Blazed is as much your home as it is mine, you know that." Estelle pleaded, moving forward.

Dante took a step back and his retreat had Estelle stopping too.

"Fine! You lost your rider! So the rest of the world can burn for all you care right?!"

"Nothing else matters because Lord Dante suffered a little misfortune, does it?! There are greater problems in the stronghold than mourning a rider you never even knew!" Estelle’s control slipped again and the words came out before she could stop them.

"Dante... I’m sorry... I..." Estelle immediately began to apologise, but trailed off, unsure of how to take back the words she had just said.

Estelle’s heart sank in guilt when Dante took another step back, his blank expression reflecting a flash of hurt that showed for just a moment before it disappeared.

Dante raised a brow at Estelle’s words, shaking his head slightly.

"Why did I even come here?" Dante murmured as he turned to leave but stopped halfway.

"You know, for someone who would harbor a spy of the Black Network in your own castle...you sure do know how to play the hero." Dante said in a tone of distaste.

Dante’s retort was like a bucket of icy cold water tossed over Estelle as she lowered her gaze, tears gathering in her eyes.

The shame and guilt that settled over her bore down heavily on Estelle’s shoulders like a yoke, because she knew well enough that what Dante knew was not even the worst of what she had done.

Dante had only seen Estelle heartbroken over a spy whom she foolishly and blindly loved...he knew nothing of what Estelle had been willing to sacrifice for Jason.

In this moment, Estelle recalled the harsh words she had said to her father when he opposed to her relationship with Jason.

And the fact that if Jason was a spy, he was not the only one. There was still her... Estelle who had almost delivered her family’s treasure to the Black Network.

"You’re right... what rights do I have to save anyone? This is all my fault..." Estelle croaked out, wrapping her arms around herself as though that would make her small enough to disappear.

"It began the moment I decided it was okay to chose him over my family. Had I revealed meeting him, I could have warned father in time... it’s all my fault..." Estelle sobbed.

Dante stood quietly, watching Estelle in silence as she struggled to hold herself together but failed terribly.

He did not ask to know about what Estelle referred to, Dante could already guess what had happened.

"If you cry any louder, we will have company." Dante pointed out, finally breaking his silence.

"We? Weren’t you about to leave?" Estelle asked, lifting her teary gaze to Dante.

Dante did not respond immediately but sighed after a moment and walked over to Estelle, handing her a handkerchief to wipe her tears.

"If I leave you alone out here, Lord Starron will haunt my dreams and then skin me alive when he returns." Dante grumbled in a tone of resignation.

"So...you will take me to Keep Skies?" Estelle asked hopefully.

"Elle...it is not that I do not want to take you, it is that I cannot." Dante revealed.
