Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 189: What They Seek ()
Estelle was barely holding in her sobs and the despair that quickly spread through her heart and Dante’s words were unpleasant to hear.
"Do not speak of things you know nothing about!" Estelle hissed right back, her tone fierce.
"Fight our way out, it is." Dante murmured with a shake of his head as he made to rise but Estelle stopped him.
"There is a way out...do you remember the forest path my mother showed to us? The Black Network can never find it." Estelle said.
Dante glanced over at Estelle for a moment before he nodded slowly.
"I do, come on." Dante said to Estelle as he led the way.
They crept around the Blazed Castle, careful to avoid meeting any of the dark sorcerers and they soon arrived at the forest path.
Without delay, they both ventured into the forest, navigating through it with the ease of memory.
Not long after, they had left the Blazed Castle far behind, along with the sounds of battle.
Only then did Dante stop, giving Estelle a moment to catch her breath.
"We are only out of the Blazed Castle, we still have to get out of Fort Blazed." Dante reminded, watching Estelle suck in deep breaths.
"For a lightblood...you are rather weak." Dante stated in a matter of fact tone, not the slightest bit bothered by the glare he received in return.
Estelle did not have the will or energy to counter Dante, how could he understand that it was not exhaustion that weakened her but the terrible ache in her heart.
"Father said you were arriving in two days...how are you here already?" Estelle asked after a few deep breaths.
Dante scoffed beneath his breath as his gaze wandered around, inspecting their surrounding.
"I realized too late that in the bid to sort my personal affairs, my father had sent word to Lord Starron. Naturally, I came ahead of time to sort out the misunderstanding." Dante replied absentmindedly.
"A misunderstanding?" Estelle asked in confusion.
Dante’s gaze finally returned to her and he regarded Estelle quietly for a moment before he nodded.
"I came to see you in private, to have you reject my father’s proposal given in my name." Dante explained his intent.
"You were not the one who asked for my hand?" Estelle asked in surprise.
Dante raised a single brow, crossing his arms over his chest as he pursed his lips in displeasure.
"No, it was not I. I have never held such intentions Elle and I apologise for any inconvenience my father has caused you." Dante asserted.
Estelle could not understand it, barely a few hours ago, her father had said Dante eagerly sought Estelle’s hand in marriage, and now that same Dante denied it.
"And the severing...? Did it... truly happen?" Estelle asked uncertainly.
Dante’s expression turned cold and his eyes narrowed slightly.
"It did. And even so, I have no plans to bond another."
"My father believes he knows what is best for me, but he does not. Bonding to another will not change the fact that my fated is no longer of this world."
"I will only take what is rightfully mine, anyone else will never be enough...if the Creator wills I should not have a rider then so be it." Dante said firmly.
Estelle was taken aback by Dante’s declaration, while she had worried over how she would reject him knowing they had once been a close knit pair,
In actuality, Dante had never intended to bond her as his rider, it was just his father’s idea to pull Dante out of the despair of a severing.
Estelle should have felt relieved, she had been apalled at the thought of being forced to marry Dante out of duty.
But now, it made no difference whatsoever. Jason was a traitor all along, an ally of the Black Network and through it all, Estelle had been the fool.
"If you are done with your questions, we should leave. Just because no one knows of this path does not make it safe... nowhere is safe till you are out of Fort Blazed." Dante said after a moment of quiet. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Estelle nodded slowly as Dante lead the way and she followed behind him.
"Do you think we can get out of the city gates before we are spotted?" Estelle asked Dante as she hurried to keep up with his large strides.
"I cannot say for sure. The Black Network infiltrated the castle directly, they do not have the man power or strength to attack the entire Fort Blazed."
"However, the castle is completely surrounded and cut off from the rest of the fort. From what I saw, there is no way to get information out due to the spell hindering our mindlink abilities."
"The people of Fort Blazed do not even know of what has taken place in the palace." Dante relayed.
"Then we must warn them!" Estelle exclaimed, earning herself a withering glare from Dante.
"Why don’t you just light a smoke signal and tell everyone you are here instead?" Dante asked with a scoff.
"Lord Starron has governed Fort Blazed for centuries, he certainly has a method to warn the people if he wished to."
"However, the fact that he chose to keep it quiet is in the bid not to stir pandemonium and panic amongst the commoners. Which also means lord Starron is certain the Black Network did not come to take lives."
"They must have another goal that involves the Blazed Castle alone. The Black Network do not want to attract attention to themselves and Lord Starron also does not wish to have his people endangered." Dante considered.
"Hence the turning point would be that goal of the Black Network, if they get what they seek, I believe they will retreat without causing more trouble." Dante said.
Estelle bit her lip, the satchel on her back suddenly felt heavy since Estelle realized that she was currently taking away the said item the Black Network wanted.
