Chapter 291: _You Are A Stormborn

Lucian’s POV

*****

"S–Sylas?" Elian brushed past him at the infirmaries’ entrance, glancing back once before moving further. "Is that... Is that really you?"

Lucian was still gobsmacked at the entrance, blinking at what he saw.

Sylas.

He wasn’t sprawled on his bed, surrounded by beeping holographic screens, and looking frail. No.

His long-lost brother stood just beside his bed, looking far healthier and steadier than Lucian had seen when he passed out in the desert. Even the few doctors gawked at him with astonishment.

"Doctors." Kyren moved past Lucian as well. "Why is he getting up by himself? Weren’t his vitals overrun by the energies he got exposed to outside?"

The doctors glanced at one another, as if trying to determine who would speak first.

Meanwhile, Elian had already gotten in front of Sylas. His mate raised a hand slowly in front of him, placing the other on his chest.

It was at that point that Lucian snapped into action. "Elian." He shook his head, striding into the room hastily. "No."

Elian however, turned back, giving him a reassuring nod that said "it’ll be fine".

The Alpha Prince wasn’t sure of that, especially after one of the female doctors finally cleared her throat:

"My lord, he indeed just woke up a few minutes ago. We called you instantly, but after that call, he..." She gave Sylas a slow sweep from his head to his toes.

The latter just stood in confusion. His eyes flicked from the doctors to Kyren at the side, to Elian and finally to Lucian, who still kept his distance.

His stormy blue eyes didn’t have the recognition Lucian saw in the desert. They held fear, probably wondering who the heck he was.

"He what?" Kyren snapped his fingers at the doctor, causing her to nod frantically.

"He just stood on his own, asking where he was." She didn’t stutter. "We tried our best to calm and reassure him while awaiting your arrival."

Kyren huffed, tilting his head. He took slow steps toward Sylas, soon standing beside Elian. Lucian moved closer as well, taking a spot at his mate’s left side.

"Do you remember me, Sylas?" Elian whispered, voice soft like he was teaching a toddler its first steps.

That caught Lucian’s attention faster than he’d like to admit. The gears in his mind turned, imagination making him see Elian with children.

Their children.

It wasn’t a topic he’d ever had with him. And Lucian wasn’t sure if he’d already discussed it with Kyren—their bond was ’special’ or whatever after all.

"M–Master Elian." Sylas’ shaky words brought Lucian back to the moment. He stared at Elian first before turning his head to Kyren. "Lord Kyren." He made a move to bow but Kyren grabbed his shoulder.

"Don’t." The Rogue king made him straighten. "Save those. Just answer this... Do you remember anything that happened outside the palace? Like, say an hour or two ago?"

Sylas’ confusion was almost painful for Lucian to watch. The lad raised a brow, eyes skimming past the Alpha Prince for a breath. Something sparked in those blue orbs just then.

Something brief. Something that could’ve just been a realisation of his status. Yet enough to make Lucian get hope.

He won’t mind introducing himself to his brother. Amara’s manipulations be damned.

"Me?" Sylas’ trembling finger pointed at his chest. "Outside? W–When... How—"

"Leave." Kyren gestured simply at the doctors, not even sparing them a look. "I’ll call if we need anything else."

They wasted no second in filing out, taking a few potion bottles and holographic tablets with them. When they were gone and the doors closed behind them, Kyren squinted at Sylas.

"So you remember nothing like that happening?" He asked again to which Sylas shook his head with certainty. "Interesting. What about him then?" He pointed at Lucian, making the Alpha Prince freeze. "Do you know who he is? To you?"

Lucian focused his eyes on Sylas now, eager to see his reaction. His brother frowned, staring at Lucian with visible confusion. He didn’t say anything for a few seconds, each one making Lucian more anxious.

"To me?" Sylas repeated. "Isn’t... Isn’t he the Alpha Prince of Lunaria?"

Silence.

The trio exchanged looks, none of them saying anything. They didn’t have to.

Elian walked to the bed, swiping across one of the floating holographic screens. "Says here his vitals are stable. Far from stable in fact."

Curious, Lucian moved as well.

He skimmed through the real-time results, eyes catching the important ones. "Cells regenerating at... Unusual levels beyond an Omega? Ascendant level mana core stable and functioning properly in harmony with his body... This." He whispered.

Yet Sylas heard him, turning around. "Are those... Are those about me? Mana core? Beyond Omega—what in the name of the dark gods is going on?"

Lucian shifted away from the holographic screens now. He hesitated, fingers hovering just inches away from his brother’s shoulders. He wanted to grab them. He wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be okay.

But another part of him just couldn’t shake off the uncanniness of this whole thing. Or the way Sylas had gazed at him, blazing with divine energy whilst proclaiming words that seemed above prophecy and fate.

"A king has never ruled alone," Kyren muttered the words ringing in Lucian’s head like he was reading out the news. The Alpha Prince and Rogue king gave each other a look before the latter continued. "That’s one of the things you told Lucian. All of us, in fact—including hundreds of citizens who watched your mere presence change the wind and move the desert."

Sylas shook his head, disbelief still sharp in his eyes. "I—How is that even possible? What—"

"Listen to me, Sylas." Lucian couldn’t take the back and forth anymore, grabbing him firmly. "You are a Stormborn. Not just any Stormborn—but the lost son of Alpha king Arian and Luna Queen Elowen. A royal."

The lad’s eyes went wide, nostrils flaring with every breath. But Lucian wasn’t done.

"I’m your brother. And you have a sister—Aurora—who’ll be delighted to know I found you. But before all that, you need to help us here." His voice lowered subconsciously.

Elian stood beside him quietly. Kyren seemed like he wanted to say something—but didn’t.

Seeing this, Lucian sucked in a breath. "I need you to dig deep. Try. Do you recall anything about a witch? A woman or anyone who ran experiments on you as a child?"

Sylas’s features shifted for a beat.

But—

"Experiments?" He shook his head. "My parents rejected me at twelve. They dumped me somewhere in the Dark Lands until I found my way to its capital. To Lord Kyren."

At the mention of his name, Kyren faked a cough. "Yes. A most convenient occurrence, don’t you think?" The Rogue King’s expression was stoic, almost cold as he raised a hand glowing with crimson light. "It’s clear the memory-altering done on you runs deep. Too deep."

Sylas blinked at Kyren with trepidation, stepping closer to Lucian. "M–My Lord? What are you—"

"Don’t resist." Kyren interrupted. "I’ll uproot your true memories. Dig past the false ones my mother left behind." Without another word, his fingers moved again.

Lucian’s pulse stuttered. He wasn’t sure about this. He had a bad feeling and the way Sylas clung to him spawned this strong protective instinct inside.

He couldn’t let ANYTHING happen to him. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

He parted his lips, about to say something—

"Wait!"
