Obsessed to Hate Him-Chapter 75: Mentor
LIAM
I don’t know what I was expecting when Kian said Zenyth would be my mentor. I was too preoccupied, feeling anxious and empty as Kian’s imminent departure drew near. And something which suspiciously felt like longing had consumed me. It overwhelmed me when Kian whispered he loves me.
I was frozen in my spot; words left me. I never said anything at all. I couldn’t say anything. Do I love Kian? I don’t know. Maybe I know. But I am too scared to admit it. Scared that history would repeat itself, and I would lose yet another loved one. I could only watch as Kian teleported back to Oblivara, immobile. My heart has never felt this torn and hurt before. I absolutely loathed it.
"Will you stop mourning and get to training already?" Jennifer shoves the covers off my body, "Zenyth is really not happy with her prolonged training session."
Apparently, Kian left behind his aunt to look after me as though I were some rebellious teenager. I know he meant well, but nothing matters now that he is not here to mean anything at all.
Am I angry at Kian? Yes. Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. But do I care? Definitely not.
He fucked me, said he loved me, and left me just like that.
Curse you.
My face turns red as I bury it deeper in my pillow. "I am not going anywhere," I say stubbornly, my words muffled by the pillow.
Jennifer rolls her eyes exasperatedly, "Come on, it’s been three days already. Pull your shits together. You don’t have the luxury to mope over your separation at a time like this, when our lives are at stake. I am damn sure that if Lucifer attacks, you will be the first one to go down."
My eyebrows furrow as I reveal my face and glare at the blonde before me, "What did you say?"
"I said you are weak." Jennifer folds her arms over her chest. I don’t like her stance at all.
The crease between my brows deepens, wrinkling my smooth forehead, "I am not that weak."
"Right. You don’t stand a chance against Lucifer." Jennifer remarks sarcastically.
I slant daggers at her.

Zenyth flings daggers at me, a look of deep disdain etched on her intimidating face, making me want to crawl back into the hole I just came out of. But Jennifer is right. The way I am right now, I don’t stand a chance against Lucifer, and I refuse to go down without a fight. If I die, I might as well drag him along to hell. So I steel myself, my fists clenching.
"How are you going to teach me how to control my magic?" I cut to the chase. I have zero desire to make amends with a literal dragon. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Dragons are super rare on this continent. They are legendary beasts that have stopped appearing to humans. Nobody knows why. To think Kian managed to tame one enough to make her his familiar... It only makes me admire him even more.
Zenyth chuffs, which suspiciously sounds like a scoff as she rises from her sitting position and slowly approaches me as though a predator stalking its prey, making my blood run cold. I consider spinning around and making a run for it. But I am glued to the ground in fear.
Do dragons feast on human flesh? No, more importantly, does Zenyth feast on human flesh?
Zenyth stops a few steps away from me, her large, shiny blue body towering over me. She is at least fifty feet tall. How the fuck does Kian even ride this thing? Zenyth lowers her head until her eyes and mine are on the same level. She stares at me, and I am pretty sure she is scrutinizing my soul. My breath heaves as I fight every muscle of my body to stay still.
After a few moments—which feels like forever— Zenyth everts her gaze.
"You need to control the flow of your mana first." A deep female voice reverberates in my head, startling me out of my skin.
I snap my head in all directions in the search for the speaker, "What the..."
"I spoke. Pay attention." Zanyth says in my head.
How is that even possible?! I knew only familiars can talk to their masters through telepathy.
"Indeed, familiars and their masters can communicate like this. But that’s not exactly how it works. Familiars talk to their master’s soul. You have a piece of my master’s soul. Thus, I am talking to you." Zenyth replies as though she is talking about the weather.
A warm, tingling sensation wraps around my heart like a warm embrace.
I have a piece of Kian’s soul?
"Stop being so lovestruck. It’s revolting." Zenyth looks at me condescendingly.
I flush and rush to defend myself, "It’s not my fault that you are reading my thoughts."
"I am not reading your mind. You are just being too loud. You just need to learn how to block me out." Zenyth makes a movement which oddly looks like shrugging.
I raise a skeptical eyebrow, "I have no idea what you are talking about."
"You will know soon enough." Suddenly, a dark blue smoke starts to swirl around Zenyth, obscuring her from my view and making me take a step back from her.
After a few short moments, the smoke dissipates, revealing a small blue dragon, flapping its long wings. It has the exact same features as Zenyth, aside from they are smaller and...much cuter. Right now, she is no more than one foot tall.
How the hell did she become so cute?!
"Don’t make me turn back to my original size." Zenyth huffs in my head and takes a seat on my head as if it were made for her to sit on. "We are starting your training from now on."
I blink, "Alright. But first, answer this: how come nobody ever had a hunch about your existence?"
"Who told you everybody knows about me now? Aside from my master’s aunt and you, only your father and sister know about me. Every servant of this palace is strictly forbidden to come to this part of the ground." Zenyth then smacks my head, "Now, focus."
"Ouch," I wince in pain.
This is gonna be hell.
