Chapter 231: Night at the Mansion

Hazard carried Chloe over his shoulder, her limp body swaying with each step, her eyes sealed shut.

"I found her passed out in the bathroom," he said to Freddie, who was waiting with Jasper beside the open car door.

"Good. Toss her in."

Hazard obeyed without hesitation.

After dumping her into the backseat, he straightened and rolled his shoulders.

"So I guess all our hard work’s finally paid off," he said casually. "Your uncle’s finally agreed."

"Yes but we can’t get too excited yet," Freddie replied, his voice low and measured. "This is only the beginning. Once I get direct access to the Baker, that’s when things really change."

A slow smile crept onto his face.

"Imagine how normal people will look at us once we get our hands on those items. We’ll have body enhancement that’s completely undetectable. No drug test can trace it. When you finally go pro in MMA, you’ll be untouchable."

Hazard scoffed, a wide grin spreading across his face, as if he could already taste it.

"I’d probably beat everyone even without enhancements," he said. "But yeah... your plan sounds a hell of a lot better."

"Do you think they’ll have something that can enhance looks?" Jasper asked as if struggling to remind them of his presence.

They headed back into the bar, snickering and discussing casually.

Only then did Chloe dare to move.

She cracked one eye open, listening until their voices faded completely. When she was sure they were gone, she released a quiet breath and quickly slipped her phone from her pocket.

Her fingers moved fast as she texted Yohan. She had been faking it the entire time, playing helpless and letting them believe the drugs had taken effect.

It was all part of their plan.

Back at campus, Yohan received a text.

"They’ve started moving. We should move out," he said.

Jenna nodded in agreement. "We can use the tracker so we don’t have to get too close."

Following the signal from the tracker they had given to Chloe, Yohan and Jenna traced it to a secret mansion hidden in a desolate, private area.

"It’ll take a few minutes before the cops even make it here," Jenna said, pulling out her phone, ready to make the call.

"Shouldn’t we check if they’re really inside?" Yohan asked, crouching behind the fence. It wasn’t very high, but the darkness outside made it impossible to see much.

"Have you forgotten that the girls in there are in danger?" Jenna whispered sharply. "We can’t afford to take any chances."

Yohan didn’t need long to think. "You’re right... but I should still get closer and at least see what’s going on."

Even as he spoke, his eyes were already fixed on the house. Two men in suits stood guard at the entrance, and several cameras were mounted around the property.

’The cameras are only covering the entrances... That means it wouldn’t be too hard to avoid getting spotted’

"Yohan, stick to the plan," Jenna whispered. "I already called the cops anonymously, just like we planned. Now we wait."

Yohan sighed. The truth was, he couldn’t just stand around and wait for the police, not when he knew Chloe was inside.

’If anything happened to her before they arrived, it would be my fault’ Yohan gritted his teeth.

He couldn’t let that happen.

"Jenna, just wait here. I’ll be careful," he said, then silently vaulted over the fence.

"Yohan, what are you doing?" she hissed, trying—and failing—to keep her voice down. "You’re going to ruin everything!"

He ignored her and pressed on.

"Yohan!" she called again, but he was already gone, crouched low on the other side.

’I just need to avoid being seen’ he thought, moving from bush to bush, keeping to the shadows.

The compound was large, riddled with dark corners. It wasn’t difficult to stay hidden—especially since the guards patrolling the area seemed more lax than alert, barely paying attention to their surroundings.

Yohan was already close to the house when the front door burst open.

Kai Lu stormed out, fury written all over his face. A second later, Freddie’s uncle—the chairman—followed him.

"Calm down..." the chairman said as they stopped just a few meters from Yohan’s hiding spot.

"Calm down?" Kai Lu snapped. "You didn’t even tell me you knew the location of the Baker, and now you’re planning to take that dumb kid to see him?"

The moment Yohan heard the Baker, his ears practically stood upright in his hiding place.

"That kid is my nephew, and—"

"And I don’t give a bloody damn!" Kai Lu cut in. "I’ve worked for you for three years now—three years—and for what? Just to get a useless link to some online auction?"

Yohan shifted slightly, finding a narrow gap to peer through. He could see the vein bulging at Kai Lu’s neck as he shouted straight into the chairman’s face.

"Don’t act like I didn’t pay you and your men well during our time together," the chairman replied, brushing off the complaint with infuriating calm.

"But you know that was never our agreement..." Kai Lu growled, teeth clenched.

The chairman’s unfazed expression only made the anger burn hotter. Gold watches gleamed on his wrist, rings flashed on his fingers, and a heavy designer chain hung around his neck. Kai Lu knew every bit of that wealth had been built on the backs of him and his men. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

All this time, he’d believed they were partners.

Now he could see the truth—

the man had never regarded him as anything more than a tool.

When Kai Lu had first met the chairman, the man had just been released from prison. He was the second son of the Micheal family—the one arrested for running a pyramid scheme.

Back then, he’d come to Kai Lu with promises of wealth and power, swearing that if Kai Lu helped him manage his new business, they’d both rise to the top. Kai Lu didn’t hesitate after learning about the Baker.

Since then, the chairman had kept dangling the Baker like a carrot in front of him—always close, never within reach. But not anymore.

Kai Lu suddenly grabbed him by the collar.

"Listen carefully, you fat man," he growled. "I’ve been very patient with you, and it seems you’ve forgotten who you’re dealing with. If you don’t start acting right, I’ll cut your body into pieces and feed them to your nephew."

His voice was low and ominous, too controlled, and real to sound like an empty threat.

Even Yohan felt his heart begin to race from where he was hiding.

The chairman went pale. He couldn’t even meet Kai Lu’s gaze anymore, his bravado completely shattered as he stammered,

"...O-Okay."
