Chapter 119: What Happened Here

Leo felt all the girls entering the Domain as an explosion breached the portal before he could close it. Once they were safe, he turned to the Silent Watchers, who circled him while holding their weapons up.

Just after that, he lost his temper and started attacking the soldiers. Booms launched the warriors into the air. After that, he quickly took to the sky while heading north to get away from the Duskwood empire.

He had barely covered a few miles when explosions erupted around him, shaking the ground and filling the air with smoke and debris. Leo glanced over his shoulder, his heart racing as he spotted three shadowy figures in pursuit.

Without waiting, he started casting dozens of Thunderbolts and Fireballs at the enemies. The explosion surprised one of them as it engulfed him. When seeing this, Leo sped up, causing a sonic boom to echo across the landscape.

Thanks to his mana, he lost the attackers as he vanished across the border into the Elven Empire. Leo quickly dived under the treetops so nothing could find him and soon he appeared in a primal-looking jungle.

He came to a stop while scanning his surroundings, only to notice a few monsters rushing into the underbrush. Following that, Leo traveled through the humid air while ignoring the surrounding noises.

Towering trees draped with thick vines and the air was heavy with the scent of damp soil and vegetation. Shafts of sunlight pierced through the canopy, casting patterns of light and shadow on the forest floor as he made his way through the maze of greenery.

The sound of his footsteps beneath him blended with the distant calls of exotic birds and the occasional rustle of unseen creatures. Leo’s senses stayed sharp, his eyes scanning for any threats hidden within the dense undergrowth.

Everything around him seemed alive, a pulsing entity that both welcomed and warned him of its danger. Hours passed, the light above dimming as the sunset. The vibrant greens of the jungle deepened into darker shades.

Shadows lengthened, and the air grew cooler, heavy with the promise of nightfall. Leo soon grew tired and needed to rest just as a storm appeared overhead, causing thunder to boom overhead.

Leo attempted to open a portal to the Domain, but nothing happened. A knot of frustration tightened in his chest. ’What’s going on now?’ he thought, scanning the dense jungle around him.

Realizing there was no choice but to carry on, Leo climbed up to a high branch, securing himself with a sturdy rope. He set up camp, settling under a blanket to shield himself from the chill of the jungle night.

’This should be good to rest for a while,’ he thought with a small smile.

While sitting there, the warmth washed over him, which made things even better. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. The sounds of distant creatures echoed through the air, growls, screeches, and rustles that hinted at lurking dangers.

Despite the unsettling noises, exhaustion soon claimed him, and he drifted into a deep sleep, the haunting sounds of the jungle reverberating through the air as his mind slipped into dreams.

As Leo slept soundly, the jungle stirred with life. The air grew thick with the hum of insects, their wings buzzing. Trees swayed gently in the breeze, their branches creaking as if whispering secrets to one another.

In the shadows below, the underbrush rustled with unseen movements. A pair of glowing eyes flickered in the darkness, watching, waiting. A low growl reverberated through the air, followed by the sharp snap of twigs, as something large and predatory moved closer.

Above, the canopy seemed to come alive as well, with the eerie call of night birds echoing across the jungle. The moonlight filtered through the leaves, casting shadows over Leo’s tent.

The following morning, Leo woke up with a yawn, but noticed the storm was going on, which annoyed him. ’Guess I’ll sleep until it calms down.’

Leo lay curled up on his makeshift camp in the towering trees, his body weary but still alert. The jungle had quieted in the wake of his arrival, though the storm raged overhead, sending sheets of rain pouring down.

The wind howled, whipping through the dense canopy, as thunder cracked across the sky with bone-rattling booms. For the past few days, Leo had remained inside the tent, using the storm as cover to rest and recover.

The downpour soaked everything below, turning the jungle into a dark haze. His clothes clung to him, damp and uncomfortable, but it was the only shelter he could find. Thunder rumbled once again, shaking the trees above.

Leo exhaled slowly, his muscles aching from the strain of the last few days. Despite the storm’s fury, there was a strange stillness within him, an uneasy calm that allowed him to drift in and out of restless sleep, his senses ever vigilant for any danger.

He pushed through the dense jungle, his boots sinking into the soft, wet earth with each step. The air was thick with humidity, which caused him to sweat, which was annoying, the sounds of distant creatures filling the air, growls, chirps, and the rustle of leaves.

The canopy above was a near-impenetrable mass of green, allowing only slivers of sunlight to break through, casting eerie shadows on the jungle floor. Every so often, Leo would stop, his senses heightened, listening for the subtle shifts in the air that might signal danger.

It seemed like the jungle was alive with unseen threats, but he kept moving while ignoring it. The path ahead was unclear, but the need to press on was undeniable. As he pushed onward, sweat beaded on his brow, and his grip on his weapon tightened.

Each step felt heavier, but Leo knew he couldn’t afford to stop, not with another deadly storm closing in on the horizon and the dangers of the jungle surrounding him. Following that, he continued traveling through the dense sea of trees.

Seconds later, Leo found an old house in the middle of a clearing which confused him when seeing it. The place looked run down and abandoned, with debris littering the ground outside and clothes scattered everywhere.

’What happened here?’ he thought while glancing around.

Leo approached the house, his senses sharpened as he readied his magic, prepared for anything. But an eerie silence met him as he stepped inside. The place was empty, yet strangely inviting.

Delicate carvings of leaves, vines, and animals, which blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings, lined the walls and interiors. Leo continued looking around until thunder boomed overhead.

He approached a nearby window, only to see the storm returning as the wind caused the giant trees to sway. ’What is it with the weather in this world? It’s shit,’ he thought while looking outside.

The chill of the house pressed in on Leo, a sharp contrast to the humid heat of the jungle outside. With the storm worsening, he set up his tent inside, seeking some warmth and shelter from the increasing gusts of wind.

As the rain battered against the walls, he crawled into the tent, the fabric offering a small, personal haven against the chaos outside. Pulling out some food from his Item Box, Leo started eating.

The wind howled like a wild creature outside, the storm’s fury increasing with every passing moment, but Leo paid it no mind. The whistle of the wind through cracks in the walls was merely background noise as he focused on his meal.

’At least I can see the Elven lands now,’ he mused while drinking some ale.

After finishing his meal, Leo decided to get some rest as the storm raged outside, the wind howling like a beast clawing at the house. He rolled onto his side, pulling the blankets tightly around him to ward off the chill that still clung to the air.

Following that, he went asleep as the covers kept him warm along with the tent as the storm intensified. When Leo woke up the next morning, the wind was still raging outside, but he could enter the Monster Domain thanks to being able to use his magic.

As Leo stepped through the portal, a flash of blonde streaked toward him like a bolt of lightning. Before he could react, Roxy leaped into his arms, her momentum nearly knocking him off balance.

Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her, steadying them both. Without hesitation, they kissed. He could feel her happiness radiating through every touch, her joy almost tangible as she clung to him.

Seconds later, they broke apart, though Roxy’s smile lingered as she rested her forehead against his. The moment was interrupted as the rest of the girls appeared. Agatha was the first to speak, her sharp eyes scanning him with a mix of relief and curiosity.

’’It’s good to see you, Leo,’’ she said, her voice steady but tinged with concern. ’’It’s crazy what happened back in the empire.’’
