"I went to the hospital to see Jed today. I didn't recognize him. My God, he's only three years older than me, but now he looks like a little old man in his sixties."

"Jed's strange illness has gotten worse. His skin was completely rotten, and he was wrapped up like a mummy and taken home. I'll never forget that scene for as long as I live."

"Jed's condition was deteriorating. He lay on the bed like a corpse. If Jed's wife weren't so beautiful, I really wouldn't have wanted to visit their house then. I hope this guy gets out of his misery soon. I swear to God, I'll take good care of his wife!"

"Quiet day today, so I deliberately found an excuse to help Jed's wife tidy up their house. The guy had actually hidden a lot of interesting magazines. But they'll all be mine soon enough."

"Jed died. Thank God, under the guise of comforting her, I discussed the origin of life with Jed's grieving wife in their kitchen. This academic research was intense and left me exhausted. Jed's wife is truly a learned lady. She's so articulate; I found it a bit overwhelming."

"What the hell is going on!!! Could Jed's strange illness be contagious? A group of very serious-looking guys came to Jed's house. They interrupted the academic discussion I was having with Jed's wife and spent a long time in Jed's house with some instruments. They also specifically asked about the places Jed had visited before he died. I'm really curious about what caused Jed to end up like this. An infectious disease? But those guys weren't wearing protective suits. I must be overthinking it. When they left, they also took Jed's body. I don't know if it was my imagination, but I felt like the way they looked at Jed's wife and me was full of pity. Those bastards. They must be jealous of me and Jed's wife."

"I have no idea where Jed's body was taken; Jed's wife wouldn't tell me. Jed was quite a loner in school, so not many friends attended his funeral. I really don't know how he managed to win over Sia back then, but now Sia is mine."

"I don't know what's going on. After attending Jed's funeral, I've been feeling tired—an indescribable kind of fatigue. My God, it must be because of my frequent academic discussions with Sia."

"I wanted to rest for a couple of days, but Sia disagreed. Something seemed to have set her off. After Jed's funeral, she started frantically seeking me out to discuss all sorts of research projects on the origin of life—in the kitchen, bathroom, balcony, bedroom, car, and even on the small lawn downstairs. It was the first time I realized how diligent and hardworking Sia was with her studies. Maybe she wanted to forget Jed through this... enjoyable academic research, but my body seemed to be giving out. Damn it. My 'brother' just wasn't up to the task!"

"Thank God, Sia said she had to go on a business trip. A black sedan picked her up. I could finally breathe."

"The first day Sia left, I missed her. Oh, right, a new female assistant started at the academy. As a senior colleague, I should show some extra care for the newcomer."

"Damn it, Merli beat me to it. He's clearly just lusting after her body, and he has the nerve to say he's 'caring for a colleague's well-being.' Despicable!"

"Sia had been gone for over a month, and I'd lost contact with her. What was worse, I seemed to be getting sick. Lately, I'd often felt dizzy and sometimes vomited. I was also finding a lot more hair on my pillow each morning. It seemed like I needed to get more rest."

"Now I finally know how Jed died. Those bastards! They misled me! Why didn't they quarantine this place! I'm going to report them! I'll make them pay!"

...

In front of the computer, Daisy stared wide-eyed at the diary entries on the screen. Based on the text documents' creation dates, she could confirm that these entries were all from two years ago.

The problem was, Daisy understood every word in the diary documents, but why couldn't she make sense of them? Is academic research that tiring? And how exactly did Jed die? So annoying! She hated people who didn't speak plainly and made others figure things out for themselves!

Unwilling to give up, Daisy used the police database, searching death records with the name Jed revealed in the diary and the document timestamps. She eventually found deceased individuals who matched both criteria.

In all of Los Angeles County, there were three people named Jed who had died two years ago. Two died in car accidents, and one had been shot to death. None had died of natural causes.

None of these three matched the description of the deceased in the diary.

Having no other option, Daisy had to turn her attention back to the IP address she had intruded upon. According to the IP address, the computer she had broken into was in the community Dean had visited. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

But that location used a campus-like local area network (LAN), making it impossible to lock down an individual IP address.

With no other choice, Daisy turned her attention back to the diary documents.

She read them over several times, carefully contemplating the hidden meanings behind the words. In the end, to save the few brain cells she had left, she resignedly gave up.

"These academics, always talking in circles! They can't even write a diary that's easy to understand!" Daisy muttered, then took out her phone, preparing to tell Dean and Lawrence about her findings.

Just then, KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
