Chapter 58: Chapter 58: It’s Human

Hannah’s disguise was too profound, even Arnold Simmons couldn’t fully discern the woman before him.

Was she a delicate rabbit, blinded by love, or a crafty fox, manipulating people at will?

Arnold couldn’t tell, and the fact only increased his feeling that things were gradually slipping out of his control.

Clap——

The silver matte lighter was opened again, the brief flame it lit seemed like the only light source in the entire space.

The warm glow reflected in the girl’s crystalline eyes made them even more dazzling and clear.

Hannah could almost feel the warmth from the flame.

The cigarette on his fingertips was lit, a strong tobacco scent spread in the air.

Hannah knew, Arnold was angry.

Maybe because she had deceived him?

After a while, the man suddenly chuckled. His voice was a bit hoarse, his eyes blazing with a hint of menace. "I’ve underestimated Miss Winter. She’s got all the tricks up her sleeve, impressive indeed."

Hannah detected the man’s sarcasm and maliciousness in his words.

But she didn’t take it to heart.

She just propped up her head, focusing on the man’s side profile, and laughed, "Who would’ve thought that the mighty Mr. Simmons of the Simmons family would know such phrases?"

The moonlight from the car window spilled over the girl, her lips curved into a smile, half-lidded eyes suddenly brightened, and a sudden laughter echoed within, which was dazzling.

The sudden thought in his mind almost made him tear off his disguise completely.

Their beginning was because Hannah intentionally approached him, and now everything seemed to be going as she wished.

Whether the outside world praised his self-discipline or rumored that he had hidden problems, it all came down to his arrogance, unable to accept what the mundane world offered.

Now that he met someone he favored, he didn’t mind "breaking the rules"; he was just afraid that once he started to be manipulated by others, he could never turn back.

The fury in his eyes was suppressed, and the beast, bound by heavy chains, was forced back into its cage.

Arnold chuckled lightly, some ash fell off from the cigarette he was holding, "Although I am high above, I can’t avoid being coveted and dragged down to the mortal world."

"So...what does Mr. Simmons consider himself? A sweet dog? Or a wolf cub?" Hannah held up two fingers on each hand, bent slightly, with a radiant smile on her face.

Arnold didn’t answer. He stubbed out his cigarette and started the car.

There were few pedestrians and vehicles on the street late at night. The man stepped hard on the gas pedal and sped along the road.

On the way, Arnold thought more than once about driving straight back to the Mid-hill Courtyard.

It wasn’t until the signboard of the hotel and its bright lights filled his vision that he startled into realization, mocking himself with a laugh.

The car door was tightly closed. Neither of them got out of the car.

A sense of oppression and ambiguity lingered in the car for some unexplainable reason.

It wasn’t until Hannah unbuckled her seatbelt that a man’s deep voice came from the side, sounding as though it was crushed countless times, "I am a human."

Hannah was taken aback, and looked at him with confusion.

The man explained again, "Not a sweet dog, not a wolf cub, but a human."

After speaking, he pressed his thin lips together, narrowing his peach blossom-like eyes, but his gaze kept lingering on the girl’s face.

It took Hannah a long while to suppress her laughter. She then burst into laughter, laughing uncontrollably.
