No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 43: Encounter with George River
As the saying goes, even though a beautiful flower has an owner, I can still loosen the soil around it right?
Oliver Taylor shook his head, gesturing towards the seat Arnold Simmons had just occupied. "If you’re so bold, you go for it."
Harvey Cooper was slow to react and stared in shock at Oliver.
Oliver nodded in secret.
Silent communication and gossips began to spread between the two.
If it’s a woman that the Second Young Master Simmons finds appealing, they probably wouldn’t even have the chance to sneak an extra glance at her.
*
Hannah Winter was simple, weak, kind, or maybe... foolish.
The thing Louis Snyder despised the most was when Hannah looked at him with such a pitiful gaze, as though he was an idiot who always needed others’ care and protection.
Little did she know that, in his eyes, Hannah was the actual fool.
So foolish that she didn’t even know whether someone genuinely liked her or was just toying with her. Or perhaps she did know, but was so foolish as to be blissfully ignorant.
She was always humble and self-sacrificing, not realizing that it is her nature that makes men despise her even more.
It was deliberate of him to bring Hannah to the bar, watching her — a girl — getting hit upon and harassed by other men.
Watching that face of hers that always wore expressions of "humility", "self-sacrifice", and "weakness" turn into a face of panic.
He’d admit it, he took perverse satisfaction in that scene.
Then, he turned around and left mercilessly.
As he was about to light a cigarette at the stairs corner, he heard a noise.
In Hannah’s eyes, he would always be an innocent and naive young lad who would never resort to something like smoking.
Louis put away the lighter he had in his hand, took a few steps out, and saw a man — visible only from the side — speaking softly to the woman opposite him at the bottom of the stairs.
From Louis’ angle, he could only vaguely see the woman’s side-profile, a white dress, and the silver earrings hanging from her ears — all too familiar. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
He couldn’t make out the entire conversation between them, but he could tell that the woman was angry and the man was helplessly trying to placate her.
In the end, the woman left angrily while the man didn’t chase after her. Rubbing his eyebrows tiredly, he turned around.
It was George River!
In an instant, Louis’ pupils dilated, and he instinctively hid in the shadows.
Only after George River walked past him and vanished around the corner did he gather his wits.
The only woman who could make the always aloof President River speak so softly was Tiffany Lynch.
Upon realizing this, Louis couldn’t care less and just wanted to catch up.
He had been waiting for Tiffany Lynch for way too long.
Since their parting twelve years ago, he was always waiting for a chance reunion with her.
Knowing that Tiffany’s family was rich, he worked tirelessly day and night to earn money. Knowing that Tiffany liked acting, he made every effort to get into the entertainment industry.
Later, he found out that Tiffany’s family had gone bankrupt and she had moved overseas. He then painstakingly manipulated everyone seeking to rise to the top of the entertainment industry just to be on equal footing with the bright moon in his heart.
However, when he found out about the romantic relationship between George River and Tiffany Lynch, he was consumed by jealousy.
That’s why he continuously paid attention to George River. He knew that George was involved in Tiffany’s financial collapse and found a replacement after she left. He also knew that this replacement was none other than Hannah Winter.
He intentionally got close to Hannah, all in hopes of one day exposing George River’s duplicitous side.
