No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1871: Hayes Edwards Side Story (28)
Grace Winter was indeed distracted by the cake, "Is it a real cake?"
"Of course it’s a real cake." Mother Edwards chuckled at her adorable demeanor.
Mother Edwards was quite skilled at making desserts, and the house had matching tools and ingredients.
It was Grace Winter’s first time entering the kitchen with Mother Edwards, and she saw oversized versions of the toys she had just played with, her eyes full of wonder.
She found it quite magical.
Unlike clay, these things could actually be eaten when made.
The air was filled with the sweet smell of cream.
Mother Edwards shared a small piece of dough with Grace Winter, and she tried to knead it herself, with flour on her face, looking like a little kitten.
Mother Edwards thought, her daughter was indeed different.
"Does Grace also like cake?"
Grace Winter nodded, "Grace wants to be a cake chef!"
She had seen this in a cartoon.
Mother Edwards smiled gently, "Why do you want to make cakes?"
"Because eating cake makes people happy, and Grace likes being happy." A naive yet simple reason, but she really thought about it seriously.
Her soft manner made one want to hold her.
Mother Winter couldn’t stop smiling.
This was Grace Winter’s first time making a cake, although she only helped a little.
During dinner, she happily introduced, "This strawberry was placed by Grace, and with the flour, Grace also helped."
Mother Edwards smiled and said, "Yes, today Grace helped a lot, she made this cake."
The four adults took turns praising her.
Hayes Edwards sat on one side, scoffing, "Little kid."
Little kids were easy to please.
Even though he was only eight years old, Hayes Edwards considered himself a pre-adult.
In September, Grace Winter officially reported to Dawn Light Middle School, and like other new students, on the first day, parents could only drop them off at the school gates.
Many children cried.
Leaving the familiar kindergarten environment and carrying their backpacks into the school on their own was indeed an adjustment.
Grace Winter stood among them, her big eyes round, wondering why they were crying.
She tilted her head to look at a little boy with a tear-streaked face, comforting him, "Don’t cry, your parents will come pick you up at noon."
Her voice was soft, her smile sweet.
Like a little angel.
The little boy looked at her and forgot to cry.
Hayes Edwards was pulled over by Brother Harry with a face full of impatience, "She’s not three, why pick her up?"
Brother Harry said, "I’m just worried Grace might get lost."
Actually, every year the first-grade newbies arrive at school a day earlier with their parents to find their classroom and seats, so they generally don’t get lost.
Even if they did, there were teachers.
Hayes Edwards folded his arms, looking cool, the school uniform he wore was tidy and clean, with a little necktie.
"I saw Grace!" Brother Harry waved excitedly.
Grace Winter also saw them and gripped her backpack straps as she ran over.
She happily greeted, "Hayes."
Hayes glanced at her and turned away.
Brother Harry waved his hand, indicating he was there too.
Grace Winter smiled sweetly, calling out to him, "Brother Harry."
She always called him that.
But Brother Harry was in the third grade now, and being called that was a bit embarrassing, "From now on, just call me Brother Harry."
