Chapter 1597: Chapter 1597: The Moon in the Sky

Among the three, Wayne Lane was unemotional, Sheffield Benedict was precocious.

Thus, they have always known the kind of mission they carry, and their feelings for Emma also largely stem from this.

Emma couldn’t sit still after just a short while, as her true purpose for coming today was Wayne Lane, "When exactly is Brother Wayne coming back?"

Sheffield continued focusing on his work, only putting down his pen and looking up when speaking, "I don’t know."

"I don’t believe that." Emma frowned, "You and Brother Wayne are so close, how is it possible that he wouldn’t tell you when he’s returning? Is he deliberately avoiding me?"

Sheffield fell silent, "You should ask Wayne what he thinks."

"Ask him?" Emma frowned, "Wayne is like a clam, cold as ice. Even if I ask, he never responds. Sometimes, I really don’t understand what he’s thinking."

Sheffield casually said, "Perhaps he just wants you to go back soon."

"Go back?!" Emma’s brows knitted tightly, her princess temperament showing, "I won’t go back. You’re all here, why should I return!"

She didn’t want to give Hannah another chance to get too close to Wayne and Sheffield like before.

Sheffield, a bit tired, pinched the bridge of his nose, "Even if you don’t want to go back, you shouldn’t avoid the royal guards."

Those were the king and queen’s specially assigned protectors for Emma, to prevent her from encountering danger at the border.

After all, she also played a role in "killing" Hannah back then, having dealt the final blow.

But Emma didn’t see it that way, "If you’re worried about my safety, then call Brother Wayne back to protect me."

Sheffield glanced at her, not wanting to repeat the words he had said previously, and could only find someone to send her back.

Before leaving, Emma made sure to repeat, "If Brother Wayne comes back, you must notify me."

Sheffield heaved a sigh, "Understood."

It was then that Emma left.

The room fell silent again, and Sheffield uncharacteristically showed a hint of irritation, pushing aside the pile of documents in front of him.

He had been in constant contact with Wayne these past few days.

The scouts reported that the wandering travelers have been quiet lately, with a routine resembling the usual, no traces of anything anomalous.

But it was exactly this that was worrisome.

From his understanding of Hannah, the battle was inevitable.

This was a scene Sheffield did not wish to witness.

Yet he and Wayne had no grounds to persuade Hannah to abandon her revenge.

He owed Hannah many times over, as did Wayne. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

...

Outside the window, the moon hung high, nightfall settling in once again.

Hannah sat in a spot slightly away from the camp, looking up at the bright moon in the sky.

The weather was pleasant today; no scorching heatwaves, nor biting cold gusts - a rare spell of fine weather.

Hannah sat there for a long time, her gaze somewhat vacant, until Arnold Simmons approached, snapping her back to reality.

"What are you looking at?" Arnold sat down beside Hannah, turning his head to look at her.

Holding her knees, Hannah said, "Looking at the moon in the sky."

She had changed into a new set of clothes, a brand-new white combat uniform. Her long black hair loosely draped behind her head, making her face seem extraordinarily delicate.

Such was her appearance, hardly suggestive of a fierce leader of wandering travelers.

Arnold sat with her for a while before speaking again, "I heard them say, you want to go against the royal family for revenge?"
