Nine Revolutions Star Transformation-Chapter 691 - 711: Absorbing the Big-headed Ghost’s Energy
Chu Linfeng's strike was incredibly swift, and the female ghost believed that he was incapable of harming her, convinced by the ineffectiveness of his previous attack. However, she was gravely mistaken; Chu Linfeng's Soul Slash was devastating against ghostly entities.
The Soul Slash struck the female ghost with unwavering accuracy, bringing forth an unprecedented wave of agony. Unable to contain it, the female ghost let out a heart-wrenching scream. Naturally, Chu Linfeng would not allow too much commotion. He swiftly conjured a ball of flame in his hand, seizing the moment of the ghost's excruciating pain to attack her.
The power of the flame wasn't immense, as Chu Linfeng feared that instant incineration would prevent absorption of the ghost qi. The flames ignited on the female ghost, and as she was on the brink of being destroyed, Chu Linfeng quickly unleashed his Star Absorption Technique, fiercely inhaling her spirit.
A mass of black gas emerged from the female ghost, fully entering Chu Linfeng's body. Almost simultaneously, the female ghost turned to ashes. Had Chu Linfeng been any slower, he would have missed absorbing the ghost qi.
Upon reception, Chu Linfeng felt an unfamiliar chill engulf his entire being, prompting him to immediately circulate his Chaotic Dragon Power to expel it. However, he realized that the ghost qi hadn't dispersed; as the Sword Spirit indicated, it bizarrely clung to him instead. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Unfortunately, the ghost qi was too scant to mask his Human Race identity, but Chu Linfeng was not in a hurry, believing that a second success would surely follow the first.
He had discerned how to absorb more ghost qi. The female ghost, while potent, was not utterly absorbed before her split from her flames, having only extracted less than a third of her ghost qi.
Chu Linfeng did not rush to leave, convinced this was an opportune spot. However, the infrequency of Ghost Race appearances necessitated drawing them in. Activating his Divine Sense, he cautiously monitored his surroundings.
The Sword Spirit had advised against using Divine Sense recklessly in the Netherworld, lest running into formidable experts. Thus, Chu Linfeng deployed his senses carefully, limiting detection within a hundred-meter radius.
Soon, he spotted a creature with a head as large as a cauldron, corporeal in its entirety. Recognizing it as a formidable adversary, Chu Linfeng carefully approached, initially releasing a palm strike while maintaining vigilance for the creature's reaction before intending to retreat.
Predictably, Chu Linfeng's strike provoked his foe's wrath. It landed with a tangible impact, propelling the creature several meters backwards.
This baffled Chu Linfeng - why had his strike against the female ghost seemed to disappear, yet here it managed to send the Big-headed Ghost flying? This would require further contemplation, but for now, that irate ghost was charging towards him.
"Daring to attack your Big-headed Ghost grandpa, youngster, tired of living?" the Big-headed Ghost taunted Chu Linfeng, its glee appearing the moment it discerned his Human Race identity, "Ran out of ways to die? Today's your unlucky day walking into Hell, you'll make a fine meal that'll boost my strength!"
Chu Linfeng had no intentions of engaging the Big-headed Ghost here, quickly retreating toward where the female ghost was slain, his pace deliberately moderate in hopes of luring the ghost to follow.
The Big-headed Ghost, drawn like an addict to opium by Chu Linfeng's presence, obliged without hesitation. Chu Linfeng stopped, soon joined by the pursuing ghost.
"Boy, daring to come to Wangtu City, the only human-free Ghost Race city? Your nerve is commendable. Today I'll feast splendidly; it's been a century since I last savored human flesh," the Big-headed Ghost declared.
Chu Linfeng, undeterred, grinned, "Do you possess the Humorous Purple Orchid?" - a question absurd enough to catch the ghost off guard, which upon recovery, laughed.
"Seeking Netherworld Purple Orchid? No, I have none; even if I did, you'd have no use, being my meal shortly. No one's been as foolish as to seek the Orchid in the Ghost Race realm."
"Where can it be found then? Encountering you's my misfortune; doomed regardless, you might as well answer, letting my death be content," Chu Linfeng persisted.
"Hundreds of years ago, it was common, purchased for a few Nether Stones. Post-war extinction made them invaluable, worth thousands of Nether Stones now. Only Lord City Lord of Wangtu City has spares; satisfied?" the Big-headed Ghost concluded.
"I see. Well then, you may rest assured in your death!" A cold grin flitted across Chu Linfeng's face.
He wielded the Cyan Frost Sword, casting a Soul Slash at the Big-headed Ghost, imbued with Thunder Element, though untested in its potency.
The Big-headed Ghost, underestimating the attack based on lackluster appearance, retaliated with a purple longsword, swiftly striking back at Chu Linfeng.
Yet the Soul Slash reached the ghost, unleashing unprecedented agony, threatening to fracture its corporeal form, cancelling its strike, inducing paralysis akin to electric shock – a first for this hapless ghost.
"Who are you? I've no quarrel with you, why this treachery?" the ghost demanded, incredulous.
"You seemed eager to consume me; for that I am grateful," Chu Linfeng retorted with mirth, exploiting the chance to unleash another Soul Slash. The blow left the Big-headed Ghost nearly dead, its soul fragmented beyond repair.
Seizing the moment, Chu Linfeng employed the Star Absorption Technique, rapidly drawing the ghost's energy, consuming it within half an incense stick's time. The former Big-headed Ghost, now reduced to a mere pile of bones, bore mute testament to its demise...
