NIGHTS OF HALLOW-Chapter 102: The Strange Dream
The night was filled with a certain eerie silence that was enough to cause goosebumps on one’s skin.
The loud coos of the owls and the strange sound of unknown animals made the night look more terrifying. The wind occasionally blew a chilly breeze that rustled the leaves of the trees in the forest and they added to the strange music of the forest and night with their whistles.
Though the strange vibe of the forest could make one run miles away, it didn’t hinder the feet of a little girl from venturing into the dense forest.
The sound of her small footsteps on the dry grass added to the numerous sounds that echoed in the forest.
Her face looked fierce and determined. Like a little tigress wanting to devour anything that came in contact with her. Her green eyes fearless of the world and its chaos.
As she walked, a dark shadow dragged behind her, the silhouette forming the shape of an unknown creature.
The little girl and the creature moved in the darkness and the girl still oblivious of what was behind her entered through a small gate located in the heart of the forest, surrounded by the thick and tall trees.
Inside the gate where the little girl walked into, one could see the tombstones of graves that were scattered all over the place. Each one came after the other until where ever it stopped.
The little girl walked further into the graveyard and entered another gate that was locked with a padlock as large as her head. It was no ordinary padlock.
With a snap of her fingers, a green light shone under her little index finger that entered the keyhole of the padlock and it clicked open.
This time, the shadow that had been following her abruptly stopped when it tried to join the little girl on the other side of the graveyard.
It made a low grunt and wrung its shrunken hands in disapproval of whatever it was that hindered it from following the girl.
The girl continued to walk and unlike the first graveyard that had its graves scattered all over the place, this one was more arranged in lines. Each grave following after the other.
With one glance at the tombstones, one would know that this was no ordinary grave. This grave held the most powerful people in it. And on the tombstone of each grave, it held the title of the person in it, but one thing in common about them was that they all had a capital letter W carved on them.
The little girl didn’t stop her little legs from moving forward, determined to reach her destination, and when she did, she stopped at a grave that looked like it was freshly dug.
A tombstone lay beside the grave and a coffin made from pure gold was inside this freshly dug-out grave.
Beside this grave was another grave looking the same as the other one. Soon, a boy smaller than the girl joined her from the other side.
Together they stood and watched the grave, whispering some incoherent words. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
From their little whispers rose the loud voice of their teenage voice and the velvety of their voice couldn’t be denied that even though they were children, they were more than powerful. The most powerful of their kind.
Mist started to form around the place and it got thicker and thicker as they continued their chants.
Suddenly they stopped and the mist also disappeared immediately as if nothing happened in the first place. They turned to look at each other, their green eyes boring deep into each other’s eyes and they felt a spark that sent tremors down their little body.
"Are you ready?" The little girl asked the boy.
"Yes," The boy nodded. "Born to be always ready," He added in a voice that could command respect wherever he went.
"Born to be always ready," The girl repeated and looked at the open graves and said, "It is time. We must do it now or never."
"Hmm," The small boy hummed and turned his gaze to the girl exchanging unspoken words with her.
"You go first," The girl said and saw the boy start to walk towards the open grave. Once near it, the girl stretched her hand up and a green light flowed from her hands and moved towards the boy.
The green light made the boy be raised from the ground and was moved to stand above the grave, and very slowly and gently, he was brought down and laid inside the gold coffin.
The lid of the coffin followed suit before it was closed by the tombstone that perfectly closed the open ground. The green light encircled the grave making sure it was sealed properly.
The small girl withdraw her hand and did the same thing she did to the boy.
Now inside the other grave where she lay inside the gold coffin, her green eyes shone and she whispered, "Till the broken age and time. When the Hallows of the Nights invades the earth."
These were the last words of the little girl before the grave closed and her shining green eyes welcomed the darkness they were enveloped in.
Perdita’s eyes snapped open and her eyes shone in the slightly dark room. Her gaze remained unfocused as she stared at the ceiling still in the same position she was in on the bed.
She stayed this way for a long time, her body and brain silent as if they were trying to understand what they saw in the land of the unknown they had visited.
Her eyelids closed and opened immediately, blinking the shine off them, and it was now replaced with a look so cold that it would freeze anything it landed on.
Perdita stretched her hand and then turned her head to look around the empty room. She slowly rose from the bed feeling the weight of the sheets used to cover her.
Knowing who might be responsible for covering her, she flipped the sheets aside and stood up from the bed, and walked towards the door before opening it to let in the gust of cold air of the snow that had continued to fall since the day before.
"My Lady," The maid who was assigned to stay and attend to Perdita bowed on seeing the Lady step out of the room.
Perdita did not respond to the maid as her gaze was on the amount of light outside. She questioned the maid,
"What time is it?"
"It is the time before lunch, My Lady."
Time before lunch. Perdita nodded her head. She had been sleeping since the morning of yesterday till now.
"Why is the room so dark?" Perdita asked the maid again.
"Uhm... about that—" The maid hesitated to speak but when she saw the cold look on Perdita’s face, she quickly answered, "It was His Majesty that asked for the dark curtains to be replaced. He wanted you to sleep more without the cold or light disturbing you."
A flicker of emotion appeared in Perdita’s eyes but it disappeared the next second.
"Let me call His Majesty and tell him you’re awake, My Lady." The maid bowed and made to move when a word from Perdita stopped her.
"Don’t,"
"Uhm... okay. Should I prepare the bath?"
"Yes," Perdita replied and stepped into the room again and the maid left to get the necessary things needed for Perdita’s bathe.
Perdita’s steps on the marble floor were quiet and gentle as she went to the window draped with heavy black curtains.
She drew it open and watched the sky which was still gloomy from the snow that didn’t look like it was going to stop anytime soon. Everything looked frozen, including her heart.
The sound of the door that clicked open averted the gaze of Perdita from the weather outside to the person who stepped in. It was the maid.
The maid came in with Emily who smiled at Perdita and Perdita returned the smile.
After some time, the maids walked out of the bathroom and informed Perdita that the bath was ready.
"Do you need help, My Lady?" Emily offered with her head bowed.
"Yes," Perdita replied to the surprise of Emily.
Perdita and Emily walked into the bathroom while the other maid whose name was Charlotte stayed in the room to prepare the dress Perdita will change into.
Inside the bathroom, Perdita stripped off her dress that pulled below her feet before she stepped into the hot bath.
Emily proceeded to wash her hands and then her feet. She massaged her scalp as she washed her black long hair.
Perdita relaxed in the hot bath feeling her muscles relax together with her aching head.
"You can go, I’ll wash up and come out later."
"Yes, My Lady," Emily bowed and left the bathroom still surprised the Lady had let her bathe her. It was as if the aura of the Lady changed, but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
Perdita lay inside the bathtub, her hand resting under the water. She raised her right hand to look at it and as she did, she recalled the dream she had dreamt since she fell unconscious.
"Till the broken age and time. When the Hallows of the Night invades the earth." She repeated what the little girl in her dream had said.
What was the meaning of that and what was the dream all about? She questioned herself. The cold look returned to her eyes, determined to find what the meaning of the strange dream was.
If it was about whom she and Marco were, then she will do whatever it took to get to the root of it all. Perdita thought and stepped out of the tub determined not to be stepped upon again.
