Chapter 403: Save Me

The man Lin Chen created left the painting and appeared in the real world. It was not hard to imagine how greatly it impacted this woman.

“Look.” Hua Luo pointed at the drawing carefully. He pointed at the canvas inside the illustration. The woman’s pose was strange. It felt like she was in great fear. She didn’t want to keep drawing, but the man’s appearance threatened her.

After the man appeared, the tone of the illustration became darker than before. That feeling intensified the longer they studied the picture. Jiang Cheng took the comic and turned it over. He had a bad feeling. After the illustration was out of sight, everyone sighed in relief. Hua Luo and Wan Xiaoning took a visible breath.

“Now, you understand why I said there was something wrong with this drawing.” Li Zhumei’s voice changed. She grabbed another bottle of water and gulped it down. “I suspect the other stories didn’t come from Lin Chen but this man who came out of the painting!”

Li Zhumei clearly had discovered something. She looked so nervous. Since they entered the office, she had completed three bottles of water. The empty bottles were randomly left on the ground. Beads of sweat dripped down her forehead. She looked strangely ruddy, like she was in a sauna. This grabbed Jiang Cheng’s attention.

“Are you alright?” The sensitive Wan Xiaoning asked.

“I… am fine.” The woman wiped away her sweat with the back of her hand. “I’m not trying to scare you. I’m in the creative business. I can say with certainty that Lin Chen didn’t complete these drafts on her own.” She turned around and searched through the random stacks of paper to find something. She found a few pages and showed them to Jiang Cheng. “These were drawn by Lin Chen a while back.”

These illustrations were different from Lin Chen’s recent drawing. In the beginning, she focused on teenage art and puppy love. It was wildly different from the supernatural stuff.

“And do you know what the strangest thing is?” The woman lowered her voice, “After receiving Lin Chen’s script, strange things happened in our company.”

“What things?”

The woman whispered, “The night security heard footsteps in the corridor. He tried to look around but found no one. The footsteps started above his head, but when the guard went upstairs to check, the footsteps appeared downstairs. It felt like the footsteps were playing hide-and-seek with him.

“After this happened twice, the guard panicked. He was new and young. The next day, he questioned our boss about it. He was scolded. This continued to happen, and the guard demanded to quit. Everyone in the company was aware of it. The boss had no choice but to assign more people to join the night patrol. Five guys, including the boss, waited in the security room that night.

“When it struck midnight, the footsteps appeared. It was right above the security room. The boss led the guards to search for it. To prevent the culprit from escaping, two men stayed in the security room.

“They got upstairs, and no one was there. Just as they searched the floor, the footsteps appeared above them. Therefore, they ran upstairs.”

At this point, Fatty thought the boss was too naive. The night was quiet. How could a normal person move without making a sound? There was clearly something wrong.

The woman continued, “After this continued for a few times, even the boss felt unsettled. Before they could do anything, a scream came from downstairs. It was the two guards who remained in the security room.

“The boss quickly led the rest back. When they reached the door, everyone froze. The rooms on the ninth floor had been ransacked. There were bloody handprints everywhere. It looked like a crime scene. Someone wrote down a blood message on the security room door.” The woman grabbed another bottle of water.

“What?” Hua Luo urged.

The woman looked at them cautiously. “Save me.”

Jiang Cheng’s eyes focused. He heard the same thing. It came from the ghost phone call. The ghost told him that. Based on the voice, it was a female ghost. The rooms were ransacked because the ghost was looking for something, and the only thing that was somewhat related was Lin Chen’s draft.

The ghost… was probably Lin Chen! She returned to look for her drafts.

Based on the current situation, Lin Chen didn’t really like the man who was dressed in black. She was held hostage, so she repeatedly sought help. Following that train of thought, Lin Chen’s drafts might be the man’s weakness. It was also how the travellers could survive.

Hua Luo and the rest had flashes in their eyes. It appeared they also came to the same conclusion.

“Are all of Lin Chen’s scripts here?” Jiang Cheng quickly enquired.

“Other than the… parts you guys have taken, the rest is all here.” The woman explained, “But it’s quite a mess.” She gestured at the mess of papers. “You’ll need some time before you can find them. And some are upstairs, locked in the storeroom.”

Jiang Cheng turned around. “Fatty, you and I will go upstairs to find the other scripts. The rest of you will stay here.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll go with you,” Chu Jiu volunteered.

“Chu Jiu, you should stay to help.” Banana Wolf persuaded her. Then, he nodded at Jiang Cheng. “I’ll go with you.” Separating was not a wise choice, especially since the ghost who called them hadn’t even shown itself. However, Jiang Cheng had his own plan. He believed that something was wrong with the man who called himself Qiao Yu’s older brother. He was too… calm.

However, Jiang Cheng couldn’t find anything else that was wrong with him.

Before he left, he found a chance to sit beside Hua Luo. He reached under his skirt and wrote down brother on his thigh. He felt Hua Luo shaking. The latter then nodded imperceptibly.
