Nightmare Assault-Chapter 401: Li Zhumei
Chapter 401: Li Zhumei
Qiao Yu! The caller was Qiao Yu!
“What… what is happening?” The man reacted more than everyone. His little brother should be dead. The police verified that. A typical person would not have answered this call. However, the man appeared possessed and pressed the accept button. Hua Luo, who was closest to him, wanted to stop him, but it was too late.
Tsk! Tsk!
A strange frictional sound came through. It was unsettling. It sounded like someone was dragging their feet on the ground. At this point, the group tried to gather their courage to lean forward. The video was a bit dark. It looked like it was taken underground. There was an echo. Everyone held their breath. No one appeared. It looked like someone was shooting a livestream through the phone.
A change happened half a minute later. The person holding the phone entered a dim stairwell. There was a light blue plate near the door. Even though the video lingered on it for less than two seconds, everyone saw the words on the plate clearly: He Zhong Culture. There was a number 9 marked beside the words.
“It has gone to He Zhong Culture.” Fatty slapped the table and stood up. “It wants… to destroy the evidence!”
Most knew this was the ghost’s conspiracy to lure them over, but they had no better choice. They had to go there to find the last horror story. The group immediately wanted to depart, but the man grabbed Banana Wolf by his shirt. “I’ll go with you. This is related to my little brother.” It was clear that man had been researching his brother’s true reason for death. The travellers’ appearance gave him hope. It made him feel like he was getting closer to uncovering the truth.
“You are different from us.” Banana Wolf wanted the man to let go. “I cannot tell you why, but you should be able to tell that this thing is more complicated than you thought.”
However, the man was more stubborn than he thought. “I know it might be dangerous, but Qiao Yu is my little brother! I have to know what killed him!” The man was so agitated that he raised his voice. It attracted the attention of the waiter and someone who looked like a manager. He was in a suit.
Sensing trouble, Chu Jiu stood up and left the room. “It’s fine.” She smiled at the people outside and closed the door behind her. “We’re from a movie crew. We came here for lunch. The director is teaching some of the actors.”
The girl was so kind-looking that no one thought she was lying. The people dispersed. The manager kindly reminded her that they should quiet down lest they interrupt the others. Chu Jiu agreed easily.
“You might die. You should consider this.” Jiang Cheng reached out to tap the man’s hand that grabbed Banana Wolf’s arm, signalling him to let go. The man slowly did.
“Plus, if you’re in danger, we will not save you.” Jiang Cheng looked at him calmly. “We only have one life.”
“I know. I can be responsible for myself!” The man gasped.
“Then, it’s fine.” Jiang Cheng turned and walked away. “Let’s go. We have no money. You need to pay for the fare.”
“Okay.”
Hua Luo found He Zhong Culture’s address on the internet. They called two cabs. They arrived at a pencil-grey building. After they entered the building, they realised He Zhong Culture had the space on Floors Nine and Thirteen. When everyone moved towards the stairwell, the man glanced at the elevator. “They have elevators here.”
“Just follow us.” Before the man could continue, Fatty interrupted him. “Don’t ask why.” The man thought about it and decided to take the advice. Everyone raced up to the ninth floor. Liu Guo’s video featured Room 910. The email was sent from this room. They knocked, but no one answered. Hua Luo pushed the door open and walked in.
It was an office. It was rather spacious but very messy. The left side was quite normal. There was a small couch and a table that faced the door. The table was covered in books and envelopes. Jiang Cheng walked over and saw that one of the envelopes had been opened. The content was scattered on the table.
“It’s the comic’s first draft.” Jiang Cheng scanned through it.
“Who are you?” The door opened, and a casually dressed woman walked in. She looked young, but she exuded a strong presence. When she saw Jiang Cheng hold the draft, her face shifted, and she raised her voice. “What are you doing? Who gave you…”
Hua Luo slid out a police ID. He walked forward to show it to the woman. “We’re here to investigate a case. Please cooperate with us.”
“The police…” The woman’s eyes lingered on Hua Luo’s dress. Clearly, Hua Luo didn’t fit her impression of the police.
“We’re on official business.” Hua Luo’s stern reaction suppressed the woman. She pointed at Fatty, the brother and said coldly, “They are suspects. I’m dressed like this to go undercover.”
Jiang Cheng cooperated with Hua Luo. Banana Wolf shouted for Fatty and the man to stand by the wall. The woman believed them. Jiang Cheng took out a notebook and pretended to interview the woman.
The woman’s name was Li Zhumei. She was He Zhong Culture’s main editor. Her job was to edit and approve scripts. They were in her office.
“Do you know Lin Chen?” Jiang Cheng raised his head and glanced at Li Zhumei.
This glance confirmed their identities for Li Zhumei. She swallowed and whispered, “Actually, I knew you were here for that after you clarified your identities. The officers from last time had already talked to me about it.” frёewebnoѵēl.com
Jiang Cheng paused writing and said nothing. He didn’t want to expose himself accidentally.
Banana Wolf kept a close watch on the situation outside. The person who called them hadn’t appeared. They could be stalking them.
