Chapter 75: Chapter 75: The Evil Spirits of This World Are Far More Complex and Terrifying Than Humans Imagine

As the eerie, icy power was gradually stripped from Ye Lingyun’s body, she felt as if she had broken free from an ice cellar. The chill receded, replaced by a wave of relief at having survived.

Ye Lingyun panted lightly, still shaken, her gaze fixed on the Evil Spirit before her. It had long, messy hair, its lower body was caked in filthy swamp mud, and it radiated an aura that made one’s skin crawl.

’I originally wanted to use this as an opportunity to test my strength, to see if I could push my cultivation to the peak of the King’s Realm by fighting this Evil Spirit.’

Only when she truly clashed with the Evil Spirit did she realize how naive she had been.

The Evil Spirit’s strength wasn’t just powerful—it was utterly terrifying.

If Chu He hadn’t appeared in time, her fate would have been sealed.

In that instant, she could feel her neck starting to twist and contort, as if it could be wrung like a wet cloth at any moment.

When that Mysterious Power invaded her body, even a Ninth Grade Martial Artist like her seemed fragile, on the verge of being completely devoured.

It was the first time Ye Lingyun had felt the threat of death so palpably.

"This Evil Spirit is indeed not one you can handle easily."

Chu He’s voice was like a gentle spring breeze, slightly calming the fear in Ye Lingyun’s heart.

He gently patted Ye Lingyun’s shoulder. "Forget a Ninth Grade Martial Artist—even three or five King-level experts coming at once might not be able to withstand it."

’So it’s really that terrifying?’

she murmured to herself, finally understanding the weight of Chu He’s words.

She hadn’t even had a chance to fight back against the Evil Spirit, which left her feeling incredibly dejected.

Her spirits lifted slightly under Chu He’s reassurance.

"This Evil Spirit is indeed terrifying."

Chu He continued to explain, "Based on my investigation, this Evil Spirit with the Rattle is likely the most ferocious one within the Demon Caves of the Great Xia Empire.

Moreover, it’s drastically different from any Evil Spirit I’ve encountered before. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Back in the Great Jing Empire, I guarded a Demon Cave for many years. The Evil Spirits there were powerful, but they had no connection with one another.

Some had developed human-like intelligence, while others still killed purely on instinct.

At times, the Evil Spirits would even kill each other.

But here, every Evil Spirit is orderly, abiding by some unknown set of rules."

"That’s true."

Ye Lingyun recalled carefully.

Ever since she stepped into this fog-shrouded Demon Cave,

every Evil Spirit she encountered had abided by some invisible boundary, each occupying a specific area. She had never seen them travel in groups.

This was completely different from what she had learned about the nature of Evil Spirits during her studies in the Great Jing Empire.

The Evil Spirits described in the books there, while powerful, lacked this kind of orderly organization.

"There are indeed vast differences between Evil Spirits."

With a casual wave of his hand, Chu He instantly condensed a stream of Sword Qi. It shot toward the man with the Rattle like a silver meteor.

The Sword Qi tore through the air with a shrill, piercing sonic boom.

This strike was merely a test.

The man with the Rattle stood there quietly, seemingly oblivious to the approaching danger.

The stream of Sword Qi slammed into his body with the force of a thunderbolt,

instantly carving a gash so deep that bone was visible.

Yet, not a single drop of blood flowed from the wound; his body was not made of flesh and blood.

His feet were planted in the swamp as if they were roots, and he didn’t budge an inch.

It was as if this insignificant injury was nothing more than an itch to him.

A dark light flickered within his empty eye sockets as the man began to shake the Rattle in his hand.

This was the signal for his counterattack.

DRUM, DRUM, DRUM...

The sound of the Drum was muffled and eerie, echoing across the swamp and forming a bizarre soundwave.

The soundwave had a peculiar property: it tightly enveloped Chu He and Ye Lingyun, yet did not spread any further outward.

As the Drum’s beat reverberated, the eerie vibrations grew stronger, and Ye Lingyun began to feel dizzy.

A sharp glint flashed in Chu He’s eyes.

He swiftly raised his hand, merging his Thunder Skill and Sword Qi to form a dazzling pillar of light.

Like the first light of dawn, the pillar of light illuminated the dim swamp as it slashed down violently at the man with the Rattle.

The pillar of light instantly sliced off the man’s entire right arm. The immense impact tore his body from the swamp, sending him flying dozens of meters before he slammed into a cliff face, becoming embedded in the rock.

The Immortal Primordial Spirit Power in Chu He’s mind surged forth, forming an invisible barrier that completely shattered the eerie sound of the Drum.

The strange effects on Ye Lingyun’s body dissipated as well, and she was finally able to catch her breath.

The man with the Rattle slowly slid down from the cliff face and fell to the ground.

The severed arm began to corrode rapidly the moment it touched the ground, eventually turning into a pile of ash.

Meanwhile, the stump of his arm began to squirm as if something were reviving within it.

In just a few seconds, a brand-new arm had grown back, completely restoring him.

"The resilience of this Evil Spirit’s physical body is truly something I’ve rarely seen."

Chu He watched the Evil Spirit with the Rattle, a hint of surprise in his eyes. "Not only is this man’s physical defense astonishing, but the Rattle in his hand is a bizarre tool.

The soundwaves it emits can directly control a person’s body and easily snap their neck. Such an ability is exceedingly rare, even among Evil Spirits."

"The Evil Spirits in this world are far more complex and terrifying than humans can imagine," Ye Lingyun said, stunned.

She had thought she understood Evil Spirits well enough, but what she witnessed today made her realize how shallow her knowledge truly was.

Ye Lingyun was well aware of Chu He’s strength.

He was a powerhouse in the Land Immortal Realm, practically invincible on all of Blue Star.

Furthermore, his mastery of the Thunder Skill naturally countered Evil Spirits.

Yet even he had only managed to sever its arm, which was proof enough of the Evil Spirit’s power.

"Let’s go," Chu He said, turning to Ye Lingyun.

"Teacher, are we just leaving? Are we going to let this Evil Spirit be?"

Ye Lingyun asked, confused, her heart filled with worry.

Chu He explained, "Many of the Evil Spirits within this Demon Cave in the Great Xia Empire seem to be suppressed by this Evil Spirit with the Rattle.

If we were to eliminate it, the other Evil Spirits would likely lose control instantly. The resulting chaos in this Demon Cave would be unimaginable.

The Demon Cave is vast and has been corroded by the Mysterious Power for so long that it’s been warped beyond recognition.

Even for me, dealing with so many Evil Spirits at once would take a considerable amount of time.

If any Evil Spirits were to escape in the process, it would cause incalculable damage to the Great Xia Empire."

Understanding finally dawned on Ye Lingyun after hearing Chu He’s explanation.

"I wasn’t thinking things through," Ye Lingyun said, a little ashamed.

She had learned yet another valuable lesson on this trip with her teacher.

Chu He nodded slightly, satisfied with Ye Lingyun’s growth.

He had originally brought Ye Lingyun along simply as a matter of convenience for a mission,

but now, he was beginning to think of training her into a powerful warrior who could protect her loved ones.

The two turned and left the Demon Cave. Meanwhile, the Evil Spirit with the Rattle sank back into the swamp,

as if nothing had happened at all.

It lowered its head and became still once more, leaving behind only the silent swamp and the distant sound of the wind.
