Naruto: This Genius is Somewhat Ordinary-Chapter 420
"You idiots, why did you come back?!"
Hisagi roared as he saw them rush in. "I ordered you to retreat!"
Blood ran down his arms and soaked into the torn fabric of his uniform.
"We’re here to save you, so cut us some slack, senpai!" Renji shouted back while barely blocking one of the Hollow’s massive claws.
"We can hold it longer together," Tōma said calmly, stepping beside Hisagi. He raised one hand and released a soft pulse of chakra.
A pale green glow wrapped around Hisagi’s wounds.
"Medical ninjutsu?" Hisagi gasped as the pain dulled and the bleeding slowed.
"...You’ve got a healer in Class A?"
"More or less," Tōma replied. "And right now, you don’t really get to argue."
Hisagi grimaced, then nodded.
"...Thanks."
He turned back into the fight.
Tōma stayed behind them and kept his output low, tossing out restrained fire techniques to distract the Hollow.
Then something weird happened.
Several students launched the same fire jutsu at once.
Each of them shouted one line of the incantation.
And all of their attacks came out at full power.
Tōma’s eyes sharpened.
"...So only one person needs to ’announce’ the jutsu to the world?"
Interesting.
He raised his hand.
"Fire Style: Blue Flame Fall."
A white-hot blast surged toward the Hollow.
Then Tōma calmly started chanting.
The fire suddenly intensified mid-flight.
"...Yep. That works."
So chanting wasn’t a trigger.
It was a modifier.
A permission slip for reality.
Tōma rubbed his temple.
Good to know.
Then his attention snapped to the far side of the battlefield.
More massive chakra signatures were surfacing.
Real Hollows.
Not simulations.
And—
There it is.
A familiar, sharp pressure.
"...Ichimaru Gin."
Which meant—
"...Aizen Sōsuke is here too."
Right on schedule.
As if to prove the point, hidden Hollows rose from every direction, surrounding the group.
White masks.
Towering bodies.
The air filled with killing intent.
Kira’s face went white.
"I—I don’t want to die!"
The first Hollow lunged.
A white spear shot across the field and pierced straight through its mask.
"...Took you long enough," Tōma muttered.
Two figures walked forward.
A man with gentle eyes and glasses.
And a thin man with a foxlike smile, sword already drawn.
The others looked like they’d just seen angels descend.
Aizen smiled warmly.
His eyes paused on Tōma for half a second.
Then moved on.
Tōma felt it.
Yeah.
I’m already flagged.
"Sorry we’re late," Aizen said kindly. "We’re here to take over."
Hisagi’s eyes lit up.
"Captain Aizen! Vice-Captain Ichimaru!"
Aizen walked over and gently patted Momo’s head.
"You all did very well. You were very brave."
Then he turned away.
"Leave the rest to us."
Gin stretched.
"...Lots of targets."
"Shoot them," he said softly.
His sword extended.
And extended.
And extended. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Every Hollow in its path was skewered like paper.
Blue mist scattered across the field.
One Hollow swung a massive fist at Aizen.
He raised one hand.
Blocked it.
Then released his chakra.
The Hollow disintegrated.
No jutsu.
No weapon.
Just pressure.
Silence fell.
The students stared.
Tōma exhaled quietly.
Gin’s decent.
Aizen didn’t even bother showing his hand.
Aizen walked back toward them.
"All clear," he said gently.
"You performed admirably today."
Then his eyes settled on Tōma.
"You’re the one who sensed the real Hollow first, aren’t you?"
"...Yes."
"You have remarkable perception," Aizen said. "Have you considered joining the Fifth Division after graduation?"
Everyone froze.
Renji whispered urgently.
"Say yes!"
Tōma met Aizen’s gaze.
"...Thank you, Captain. But I’d like to stay at the academy longer."
Dead silence.
Even Gin glanced at him.
"...I see," Aizen said mildly. "My offer stands. The door to the Fifth Division will always be open to you."
He turned to the others.
"The same applies to you, if you qualify."
They nearly exploded with joy.
On the way back through the gate, the mood was euphoric.
Back at the academy, Renji grabbed Tōma by the collar.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"
"You turned down a captain’s invitation!"
"I don’t want a job," Tōma replied.
"...That’s it?"
"Yes."
"...I hate you."
"And I don’t even want the Fifth Division."
Momo frowned.
"...Why not? Captain Aizen is so kind..."
"I’m thinking of the Fourth Division."
"...The medical and logistics one?!"
"Low requirements. Big staff. Quiet workload."
They stared at him like he was broken.
Tōma waved and walked off.
"...Also," he muttered,
"I really don’t want to work under that man."
