Sasuke's relentless assault had slowed his breathing sharp, chest heaving.

Across from him, Gaara was hunched over, pale and trembling beneath cracked layers of sand armor. Both had burned through immense chakra reserves, but this wasn't over not by a long shot.

From the stands, Kankuro's eyes widened.

No way... Is he really going to use that technique?

Temari glanced toward the "Kazekage." No reaction. No warning. Just eerie stillness. She felt a chill creep up her spine.

Down on the battlefield, Gaara pressed his hands together.

Chakra-laced sand began to swirl violently, wrapping around him, forming a protective cocoon an orb of compressed killing intent.

Sasuke's eyes narrowed.

'Damn it. He's doing something in there. If he finishes that...'

Despite the wear and tear on his body, Sasuke surged forward.

His fist pulled back aiming for the small opening before the sand sphere closed.

But it was too late.

A flash of movement.

SNAP!

Spikes burst from the orb like a sea urchin, lightning-fast. Sasuke dodged the worst but caught several gashes along his limbs. One grazed his cheek.

Blood splattered.

He landed in a crouch, panting, eyes narrowed.

"So that's your 'absolute defense'..."

Up in the stands, Naruto stood in alarm.

"Kakashi-sensei, stop the fight! That guy he's not like us! He's a killer! If this keeps up Sasuke's going to die!" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Others turned to stare, surprised by his outburst.

"Ino, I'm serious! Gaara isn't just trying to win he's trying to kill!"

Neji didn't react. He just watched silently.

He finally noticed, huh...

But he wasn't worried. Sasuke could handle it. Barely.

After all, they both had a few aces up their sleeves.

As the orb sealed shut, sand particles swirled in midair, forming a floating eye.

A third eye. A surveillance point.

Temari gasped. "He's really doing it... He's lost control."

"Dammit," Kankuro muttered. "The mission's gone from bad to worse. He's not going to stop."

Kakashi, calmly, arms folded: "No need to worry."

Naruto blinked. "But—!"

"He's ready."

Down below, Sasuke wiped the blood from his face. He backed up a step. Then another. Then jumped, vaulting up the wall and landing on the edge of the arena's stone barricade.

He stretched his fingers.

And pulled back the bandages from his wrist.

His left arm fell still.

His right—

Crackled with electricity.

In a flash, he began weaving hand signs. Fast. Sharp. Exact.

Then he thrust out his hand.

Zzzzrrrrrrr!!

A piercing, electric screech echoed through the stadium.

The sound was unnatural like a thousand birds screaming.

Guy's eyes widened. "That jutsu...!"

Kakashi remained quiet.

Guy glanced at the confused faces around him, then sighed and explained.

"That's not just any jutsu," Guy said, eyes focused.

"That's Chidori."

"An assassination technique developed by Kakashi himself. The key is extreme speed and chakra concentration so intense it tears the air and produces that piercing sound."

"It's not a flashy technique it's meant to kill."

"That's why it's called the Chidori 'One Thousand Birds.'"

Neji raised an eyebrow.

Assassination technique, huh? With a sound like that, you'd wake up your target's entire clan.

Stealth level: negative ten.

But still... he couldn't deny it.

Sasuke looked good.

Really good.

That jutsu might actually work...

Guy shrugged. "Something only Kakashi would teach. Trust me."

Down below—

Sasuke struck.

Chidori slammed straight into the sand orb.

For a moment it held.

Then—

CRACK!

The so-called "absolute defense" shattered like glass.

Temari's voice trembled.

"H-He broke through Gaara's defense..."

Kankuro stared, dumbfounded.

"Impossible..."

Neji smirked.

"Thanks for the tutorial, Guy-sensei."

He clenched a fist.

And far beyond them—

Scattered throughout the stadium—

Leaf shinobi slumped in their seats.

One by one. Silent.

Unseen.

Neji's [Observation Haki] flared sensing the rising unrest.

It's starting.

He cracked his knuckles.

Do I fake unconsciousness?

Nah. Sakura didn't. No way I'm taking a dive before her.
