Chapter 43: Chapter Forty-Three: The Fear That She’s Cursed.

Mario turned over to the side of the bed, with sleepy eyes he stretched his hands out to wrap his hands around Marya, only to meet an empty bed.

His sleepy eyes snapped open instantly, and what he thought was a mere imagination of him, was right there staring clear at him. She wasn’t in bed. Infact, the bed was cold just to show how long she had left his side.

"Marya," He called for her, he knew what exactly was going on with her and he didn’t want her to go into depression, nor worry herself that much about Narika.

For crying out loud, she had a high blood pressure and it getting worse totally depends on her. If there’s anything she was, that was being an overthinker.

He stood up from the bed, taking the top of his pajamas and pulling it over him when the cold air of the night hit directly at his spine.

She wasn’t in the bathroom, and neither was she in Narika’s room which he concluded was the place she was supposed to be.

He sighed in disappointment when he walked out of the kitchen, only to hear her sniffles coming all the way from outside. She was in the foyer, and damn! Was it chilling outside? Yes!

"Marya. Baby, what are you doing out here?" He asked worriedly, turning her to meet his face, only to see her blotched face. Her nose was red, and he couldn’t tell if that was because of the cold or whether she was crying.

"Why are you not sleeping?" He questioned her, trying hard not to shout at her because of how she has risked her life being out here in the cold.

It was fucking january, and winter was getting harsh around this time.

She tried to speak, but wasn’t able to pronounce a single word. Rather, she moved closer to him just to generate heat between them.

"I’m so sorry," she apologized, but it came out more like a whisper while Mario said nothing and helped her into the house, closing the door before helping her sit down, then moved along to make a hot drink for her.

"Thank you," she told her, watching the way he rolled his eyes at her. He was angry, but he couldn’t bear to start an argument with her this late at night.

"You could have killed yourself, do you know how freezing it was out there?" He managed to say, trying all he could to lower his voice but it came out more harsher than he thought.

"I didn’t ..notice,"she confirmed truthfully, she didn’t mind the cold because she was in a world of her own. Her mind has been so lost trying to gather up ways to help her child, than to care about her own self.

"Mar..Baby.."He called, coming closer to hold her hand but she shifted away from him.

"I’m taking her away from here," she blurted out of the blue, earning her a confused look from Mario, who was sure that she wasn’t serious.

What happened the last two days was still fresh in her mind, and he knew that it was going to be hard for her to get over it, since almost everyone would start judging his daughter.

But it still hasn’t reached the point to leave, maybe not yet.

"I’m taking her back to India, we are going to figure things out when we get there. You know how my mother had always talked about her being cursed.."

"She’s not cursed," Mario interrupted her, cupping her face to look into her fearful brown eyes." You don’t have to believe in that bullshit baby.."

"My mother has always been right when she sees things, Mario. She always knew that Narika had something with ..."she said, trying to speak more but the tears couldn’t make it any easier for her.

"Then do you believe your own child is cursed huh?"He grabbed her hand tightly, he wanted to hear her say that she believe in that fucked up preception, her mother had of their daughter when she was born.

Marya came from a very traditional family in India, her grandmother was a well known seer, who transferred her power to her daughter, Selene, who made that Judgement about their daughter.

He wasn’t really one to believe in all that superstition, but when you fall in love with the daughter of a great mage, you would have to look beyond that fact and that’s what he did, until now that Marya, was igniting something in him.

Fear.

The fear that maybe her mother had seen something in their daughter, something dangerous and unusual for a normal human being to tag her as a cursed human.

This was where their daughter not being able to bleed, created a fear within her mother that urged her to nearly kill their daughter.

The two couples haven’t been totally truthful to their child, firstly had been the part that they were outlaws where they came from because of her. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

But they couldn’t bear the risk of having her know that her grandma tried to kill her when she was six and somehow she had hurt the woman. They had walked in after hearing the woman’s cry for help, who was strangled to the wall by some unseen forces, while Narika was floating in the air murmuring words that were out of this world.

He feared that somehow his wife, and her mother were right about their child. But a father knew his child better, Narika might not be normal but she’s a kind hearted being, who would rather get hurt than to see someone else get hurt.

"You sa..w it, that.. night," Marya cried, holding his hands while he refused to listen to her." My mother...she nearly killed her grandma."

"And you think going to your mother, who wants to kill your child, is the best approach to this?" He asked, " Really Marya?"

"I just want to find out what she is for that son of a bitch to mess with her? How could Adrik, your father’s rival’s son, come for my child? We both know that your father had something to do with this!"

She sounded irritated, whereas losing control of herself that it suddenly became hard for her to breathe. She was shaking in his arms, while he held her close to him.

"Deep breaths baby, look at me, Marya. Breathe!" He urged her, holding her as tears leaked from the corner of her eyes, while she’s having a panic attack.

"I’m so sorry baby, I’m so sorry. please breathe for me," He nearly cried, watching her fight the urge to breathe. He can’t lose her, not now!

It took a while before everything went back to normal, she was sleeping in his arms while he carried her in his arms staring at the air while deep in thoughts, wondering where exactly things had gone wrong.

Where?
