Myths Reawakened-Chapter 243 (1): Knight Does Not Die from Gunshots x See the Future
Boom!!
The last white dragon fell.
Riding on Veronica, Wayne had defeated the great dragons that Silvia and Megan had transformed into. He stroked his chin. They had obviously been nerfed since the women of the Lando family shouldn’t be this weak. It was likely that Veronica’s insufficient imagination had limited the rendering of the two white dragons, leading to their terrible defeat.
The dream dissolved. Wayne found himself back in the Lando Estate. Again, he looked down and saw Monica taking care of its business on the lawn.
“What a big litter box you’ve got here...” Wayne mumbled. This particular opening scene seemed like a sick joke.
“Brother Wayne, how much longer are you going to ride on me?” Veronica asked with a stiff expression.
“Huh?!” Wayne looked down and realized that he was riding on Veronica’s shoulders with his legs spread. He blinked in realization. “I was wondering why I was this tall without transforming. So it’s because of you.”
He jumped down in case Veronica got mad, but she still got mad because he had spoken too much nonsense. Dropping down to grab onto Wayne’s waist, she bent back and slammed him into the ground with her core strength.
Her motion was so clean and smooth that she could be a legend in the world of wrestling.
Wayne unplugged his head from the ground and saw the estate around him fade away, returning him to the black and white corridor. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers, leading Veronica around the maze.
Three minutes later, they found their way to the exit.
“Alex and Desiree are in the maze, too. Are we not going to find them?” Veronica kicked Wayne from behind. She had gotten that habit from Desiree, who often kicked her brother Alex like this. Veronica found that cute and quickly learned to do the same.
“It’s fine. They’re on our side, so there’s no need to create trouble for them.” At least for now, Wayne thought to himself.
What a shame that Ottilia wasn’t their neighbor, or Wayne would have eliminated her in the first round and pulled out of the selection early.
He and Veronica went through the portal one after another, returning to the number four mansion. The mages from headquarters recorded the time and stirred up another ruckus as they tore down the teleportation circle. It seemed that the work would take them another half day.
Wayne was going to look around, but Veronica urged him to enter the mansion. As soon as the door shut, she dragged him by the collar and pinned him to the sofa, mounting him with practiced ease in retaliation for riding her as a dragon earlier.
Wayne considerately put a supporting hand on her waist to prevent her from slipping off.
Pow!
Veronica hit him in the face. This pervert. Why are you enjoying this? It’s a punishment, not a reward.
“Bastard, you shot Mr. Lando in my dream, causing Mother and Megan to transform into great dragons. The nightmare began because of you. You were the source of the disaster.”
“That’s absurd,” Wayne argued. “It’s your dream. I’ll never shoot Auston with a gun in the real world.”
Don’t be ridiculous. Handguns aren’t going to kill the Darkness Knight. Not even a Blue Fire Gatling will kill him[1]!
“I don’t care. It’s all your fault!”
“Alright, alright. It’s all my fault. Just answer a few questions first. It’s important.” Wayne propped her up and said with an eyebrow raised, “I know that Megan can transform into a great dragon since I’ve seen it with my own eyes, but can you and Master do the same?”
“And I’d told you that everything was an illusion. Why did you still lose it? What triggered you?”
“Why did I shoot Auston? Dreams are said to reflect the dreamer’s thoughts. Do you see my relationship with him as such an antagonistic one that one of us has to die?”
Veronica answered the questions one by one: “I have a feeling that Mother and I can turn into great dragons. My instinct tells me that it’s the ultimate form of Dragonbloods...”
“My transformation was triggered because Mother and Megan had transformed into great dragons, and unable to suppress the impulse of my bloodline, I turned into one, too. With my thoughts failing to match my body, I lost my rationality.”
“As for you and Mr. Lando, it would be best that both of you die rather than only one.”
What a model daughter you are, sacrificing your actual father so readily.
Does Master know how devoted you are?
While Wayne pondered silently, Veronica kept her fist raised and didn’t disturb him until he sighed in relief.
“What are you thinking about? Is it related to the curse of dragon blood? Tell me.”
“After Auston died, Master and Megan lost their minds. That was your dream, too subjective and limited to be a good reference. Just like how Master and Megan were weaker in your dream, you dictated how they would behave...”
“Moreover, you subconsciously believe that Megan harbors inappropriate feelings for Auston, making her his lover.”
“I can’t say for sure whether Master or Auston is the real dragonrider.”
Wayne rubbed his chin and continued, “The relationships of the previous generation are complicated enough without my embellishment. Let’s look at the two of us. You turned into a great dragon the same way Master and Megan did—you witnessed your loved one’s death, thus losing your mind...”
Bam!
Veronica swung her fist at him with an expressionless face, warning Wayne not to make nonsensical analyses and one-sided assumptions. She had lost her mind for a different reason: her bloodline was responding to Mother and Megan’s call. That was it.
“You’re so mean. You weren’t sad at all about my death.” Wayne seized the chance to taunt her: “If that’s the case, I’ll head back and marry Kristen. In two years, I’ll cheat on her with Vera. Then I’ll divorce Kristen and marry Vera. You’ll be the bridesmaid both times, with two godchildren. We’ll all be happy together.”
“Die! Die!”
Before Wayne could finish, Veronica started pounding his chest, but he insisted on finishing his words, telling her that times had changed. Tsundere was no longer the trend. If she liked someone, she should say it, or she would only ever be the bridesmaid at weddings.
Veronica punched him a few more times, muttering unhappily, “Would the nightmare become reality?”
“It won’t,” Wayne said with certainty. A chosen knight did not die from a gunshot, and Auston wouldn’t be killed by a bullet. Veronica’s nightmare was flawed and did not stand the test of logic.
Moreover, her nightmare wasn’t about the curse of dragon blood. His and Auston’s deaths were only the surface manifestation; her true nightmare was her family falling apart, which stemmed from her upbringing.
“You’ve had it hard. I promise that the family won’t fall apart.” Wayne sat up and pulled her into his arms, gently patting her back as he considered the truth of the dragon blood curse. Without any clue, though, he would only be wasting his time by pondering on his own. It was better to ask Senna for an answer.
Veronica didn’t immediately react by cursing him for asking for a beating. His uncharacteristic seriousness caught her off guard. Her heart couldn’t help but speed up, and before her brain could catch up with her hands, she had already put her arms around him.
Smells good! x2
(눈_눈)
Senna stared at them. What was going on? Had she come at a bad time? It made sense for them to hug after being through the nightmare of losing their parents, but wasn’t their posture a little inappropriate?
The problem wasn’t the brother, but the younger sister, who had clung onto her brother with her legs spread like an octopus, eyes narrowed in satisfaction. The girl didn’t harbor inappropriate feelings for her brother, did she?
“Ahem!”
Senna cleared her throat, breaking the tension in the air.
“Mas-Master Senna...” Veronica jumped, scrambling to her feet. She wanted to explain, but didn’t know where to start.
“Master Senna, what can we do for you?” Wayne stood up and patted Veronica’s head with an indulgent smile. “She was scared by the dream, so I was comforting her.”
Maybe you coddle her too much!
Senna shook her head. “Have you always been... so close?”
“Not usually. Only sometimes. Veronica’s afraid of lightning. When we were little, whenever Master Silvia wasn’t home, and there was lightning at night, she would hide in my blanket with her pillow.” Wayne cracked a smile like he was feeling nostalgic.
So that’s why.
Senna thought for a moment before giving a piece of advice as their senior, “You’re adults now, so you shouldn’t behave like you did when you were young, without physical boundaries. You should be thankful that I was the one who saw you, or others might misunderstand the nature of your relationship.”
(눈‸눈)
Veronica sideeyed Wayne, bemused. The bastard spouted lies without batting an eye and fooled women so easily. Could it be that she was another of his victims and had failed to realize it because she couldn’t be objective about her own experience?
“Thank you for your advice. I’ll make sure to keep my distance from Veronica. You’re right. She’s already all grown up.” Wayne sighed. As her older brother, he couldn’t be happier that his little sister had matured. He ruffled her hair.
Veronica lowered her head without a word, planning to teach the trash a lesson once Senna left. She would make sure to put him in the right garbage can today.
“Oh, Master Senna, why did you visit us?” Wayne asked politely, trying to improve Senna’s impression of him through good behavior. It would be difficult since Auston resembled him too much, but he had to do it. This woman was a goldmine, and if he could coax her into liking him, it would be greatly beneficial, not least because he needed her to provide concrete information on the curse of dragon blood.
“There is something important. It’ll determine if you can become the Anointed One.”
“???” x2
I can become the Anointed One?
He can become the Anointed One?
Veronica almost burst out laughing, and Wayne didn’t believe it, either.
Filomina had warned him that the Anointed One or Holy Maiden would become a vessel for the goddess’s descending thoughts, with the possibility of their memories getting reviewed.
In religious texts, the Goddess of Nature was said to be pure, never having a partner. And She wasn’t alone! Goddess of Sun, Moonlight, Darkness, and Death were all pure with no partner.
It was one thing for one goddess to be celibate, but all five of them?
It didn’t sound believable.
