Chapter 234 (2): My Trump Card Is You

Wayne put the pieces together. Using thirty percent of his power to reach Mona telepathically, he sent her a message: the legendary mage was Celeste from the Ministry of Magic. This was an internal strife between two royal heirs, so she should stay out of it.

Mona immediately responded, Celeste’s holy light faith is too pure for him to be a free mage from the Ministry of Magic.

Wayne didn’t deem that a response. He had passed the test of the Golden Law even though he wasn’t an angel. Clearly, there were many loopholes in faith, and it wasn’t as sacred and untouchable as Mona believed it to be.

Even putting aside his experience, Flora was a good example. The former Holy Maiden was a villain through and through. She was so ambitious that she would plan the murder of her superior to gain power, putting on an act to kill her with another’s blade. But the consequences? None. The Goddess of Nature did not care and remained aloof from Her elevated viewpoint.

The Pope was another example. He hated angels but coveted their power, so he gave away a pure clergywoman in an attempt to kidnap an angel’s future child. The Heavenly Father knew everything but didn’t care enough to get involved. The omniscient let everything run its course.

Speaking of the Church of Heavenly Father, their dark history was long and varied—the witches being burned, the little boys said to be possessed, and the indulgences sold to followers. Had the Heavenly Father ever stepped in? No, not at all.

Wayne quietly played a skeleton in the bushes and waited for the battle to end. Demons once again proved themselves to be nothing but jokes. Among the three demon familiars, none was competent. They had been detached from the human world for so long that their cunningness could no longer keep up with the latest meta.

Rumble!!!

Lightning split the sky, snaking across the black curtains and shattering the chains of holy light. The inverted pentagram was activated once more.

Red light shone on the perimeter of the castle, spreading the energy of blood. Awash in red, the elemental fiend became stronger. Eight black spider legs extended from its pleated skirt, making her aura rise dramatically in power.

Mona hurriedly messaged Wayne from the rooftop. There was something wrong with Chante. The Darkness energy she could contain was too great. Mona requested permission to transform and use the Sacred Lance of Heaven.

Really? Can the demon still turn things around? Wayne clicked his tongue in amazement. No wonder she had hidden herself the longest. She was more competent than her two colleagues.

It was time for the Death Knight to make a move.

Clack!

A spatial rift burst open. Celeste plummeted to the ground helplessly. Half of his white robe was burned and charred, and blood vessels were bulging on his blackened face. He appeared to have been hit with a potent poison.

The legendary mages of the Ministry of Magic were getting worse at their job. Wayne shook his head. It seemed that he had no choice but to step up tonight.

Across from Celeste was a spider woman with an aggressively alluring face and a fair, voluptuous female torso, concealed only by her cascading long black hair. Putting aside the macabre lower body of a spider, she was a real sight to behold.

Juliette had shown her full form; her intrinsic charm made Carol’s breathing quicken and Edward gulp uncontrollably.

“Legendary mage, you taste quite good...” Juliette chuckled, extending her long, slim tongue to wrap around and lick her full bosom. She then turned to Edward. “Descendant of divine blood, you’re nice, too.”

Edward’s breath hitched. Remembering the nights and days they had been entangled, he had to bend down to hide his respect for her charm. Celeste, on the other hand, scowled darkly. Judging by his reaction, he had unfortunately lost something when he was alone with the spider demon.

Darkness descended with a boom. The elemental fiend had jumped off the castle rooftop and landed behind the spider demon like a spirit she had summoned. The inverted pentagram in the sky stopped running, projecting a massive, bloated spider abdomen that sputtered white threads and weaved them into webs to turn the castle into its nest.

Little black spiders swarmed out of Juliette’s lower spider body, each the size of a fist. They quickly grew bigger once they landed and climbed the webs with unnatural speed. The dense swarm amounted to hundreds or even thousands in total.

“Gentlemen, these are children born through your bloodlines. As their mother, I hope that you’ll like your children.” Juliette laughed out loud. Her astounding revelation made Celeste and Edward shudder.

Unlike Celeste, who had only lost his blood, Edward had lost something far more precious—his essence. Although Carol knew that this wasn’t the right time, she still couldn’t control her fury.

“Oh, how nice. Your Highness already has children.”

On the rooftop, Juno stood by Mona’s side and covered her mouth as she said sarcastically, “How nice. Let’s take the little spiders to the Ministry of Magic. The Minister will be happy.”

...Many people are watching. As the Princess’s knight, you shouldn’t mock the Prince openly even though he is your political enemy.

It’s funny, though!

Mona looked at Juno curiously. The Princess’s knight had been acting uncharacteristically, running her mouth more than usual. And her lack of concern made it seem like she still had a trump card that would ensure the demon’s defeat.

Noticing Mona’s confusion, Juno said with a smile, “My trump card is your boss. He’s in the castle, isn’t he?”

My trump card is you!

Mona’s eyes twitched. She said hesitantly, “If that is your trump card, think again. My boss isn’t here. He doesn’t want to be involved in the internal strife of two royals.”

“Huh?!” Juno’s composure broke, her eyes darting around in slight panic.

In the castle courtyard, Carol glared at Edward viciously. She bit out, “So many surprises tonight. Do you have any other plans? Show them now.”

“There’s Elizabeth,” Edward said stiffly. “She won’t miss the chance to humiliate me.”

His first trump card was his mother, and his second trump card was his sister.

Just then, a skeleton emerged from underground behind them, the chilling energy making the two of them jump simultaneously. Where did the skeleton come from, and why was there an undead here?

“Kekekeke—” Wayne rubbed his smooth skull head, his jawbone moving up and down. “What an entertaining show. The royal family has not disappointed me. Tell the Queen that I’m demanding extra for tonight.”

Celeste looked at Wayne in surprise, unsure why the skeleton would be so confident. Moreover, based on the Princess’s speculation, the heir of the Lando family should play a part, too. Why hadn’t he shown up?

“You’re...”

Juliette looked at Wayne uncertainly. She sensed chilling Death from the skeleton, but it fell significantly short of the level of the Death Knight.

Cackling, Wayne drew Shadow Nightmare out of thin air. Grey swirls condensed into armor and cape, shrouding him in thicker Death energy.

“As you can see, I’m the Death Knight!”

Juliette’s pupils contracted. She raised her pale arm, and the elemental fiend behind her raised its arm at the same time, unleashing rolling Darkness energy.

Wielding his light silver knightly sword, Wayne cut through the flooding Darkness and reached Juliette in an instant. The tentacles of Death whipped around randomly, rendering the spider webs and small spiders into rotten sludge. Wherever Death passed, vitality ceased to exist, leaving only an eternal lifelessness.

Shocked, Celeste hurriedly expanded his vitality field to transfer the battlefield to his world. The Death Knight seemed to be suggesting that there was a partnership between him and the Queen, which the Queen had never told anyone about.

“Death Knight and Her Majesty...”

Juno stood on the rooftop silently, her thoughts unreadable.

Seeing her master’s entrance, Mona looked up at the spider abdomen in the sky. Her eyes turned golden as she unfurled her white wings. She converted her pure holy light into sacred flames to burn the spider nest.

The power of the Golden Law of Angels!

Juno watched Mona work. Although the secretary’s boss was nowhere to be seen, the secretary’s power proved the information true, or at least partly true.

Without Wayne’s permission, Mona couldn’t use the Sacred Lance of Heaven, so her sacred flames were far less effective than what she was capable of. Fortunately, she could supply the flames with endless power, maintaining a decent level of destructive power.

The guests were numb from having their worldview reshaped. First, there was a spider woman, followed by a white-robed mage. Right after that, the undead knight and the angel took the stage.

While they were allowed to be numb, Edward couldn’t afford to. He urged his fiancée to destroy the evidence quickly to salvage his precarious reputation.

“You’re getting a good whipping once we go back!”

Carol angrily took a flute out and pressed it to her mouth. The thoughts-disturbing tune she played fabricated a mundane memory for all the guests. They forgot about the supernatural and remembered the spectacle of the Prince’s fiancée laying into his mistress, ending the birthday celebration prematurely.

Edward looked at Mona with envy. It was his younger sister’s power, and no envy would give it to him. The brother and sister walked on different paths. That power was always going to be out of his reach.

“If only I had chosen holy light then...”

Edward remembered the fateful night. As a child, he saw the three different-colored blocks of the Life Alliance and the white block of the faith of Holy Light. He grabbed the three blocks before his sister could.

He was too young to be capable of true malice. He simply wanted more toys.
