Chapter 651: Chapter 269 Magic Really Has Its Merits_2
Hiss!
The enormous Magic Eye opened, indiscriminately emanating whispers, sharing its knowledge with the bystanders.
The black mass of flesh wailed in agony, its eight tentacles dangling powerlessly, attempting to argue but being refuted into silence, its body rapidly decaying into black sludge and merging with the ground below.
The monsters that had lost their home, already coexisting with Golden City, now mourned in unison. Their bodies gradually softened, squirming like snails out of their shells, following the black mud into the underground.
The pale mass extended its tentacles, which broadcast thoughts and summons to the distant Veerle and Valkyrie.
These tentacles acted like signal amplifiers, vividly conveying Wayne’s voice into the hearts of Veerle and Valkyrie, the ancient and somber tone startling Veerle’s fur to stand on end.
Wayne, "Veerle, turn around, it’s me, Wayne."
Veerle, "Nonsense, Wayne isn’t like this!"
Wayne, "No more nonsense, your mother is in my hands."
Veerle, "..."
Veerle refused to believe any of it until a massive tentacle reached into mid-air and unfolded like a flower petal, revealing Wayne and the closed-eyed, slumbering Carter. Only then did she carefully draw nearer.
"Come here, you can run, but where can you go!"
Wayne extended a tentacle, grabbed Veerle, and dragged her over by force, causing her twin ponytails to tremble in fear and her to scream several times.
"Are you really Wayne?"
Veerle looked dubiously at the human in front of her; by appearance, it was indeed Wayne, but his thoughts were chaotic and intertwined with the white creature below. It was difficult to regard him as human.
"Rather than worry about me, you should look at your mother. She seems to have slept for a long time, her thoughts have become stiff."
Wayne pointed to Lady Carter lying on the ground, her appearance that of a woman in her early twenties, strikingly young. Debuting alongside Veerle, who looked eighteen or nineteen, they seemed more like sisters than mother and daughter. freёnovelkiss-com
Magic indeed has its merits!
Veerle continued to doubt the monster proclaiming itself to be Wayne, unable even with her boundless imagination to comprehend what transformation had befallen him.
Unable to figure it out, Veerle knelt beside her mother, her small hand trembling as it brushed her face, choking up, "Why hasn’t she woken up? Is she asleep?"
Perhaps someone needs to kiss her!
Wayne frowned, having found Carter but not Cousin.
Following the traditional sentimental trope, Cousin carried the Knight’s Medal across the Misty Sea, was overpowered by Golden City’s might, his squad annihilated, and in a bid to protect his wife Carter, he sealed her with the power of the medal and faced the evil demons alone.
Maybe Cousin had other plans. He might have thought to awaken his wife himself, but he had not shown up. Wayne suspected he had already merged with Golden City.
Wayne stepped behind Veerle, not sharing his speculation, and said gently, "Aunt Carter has been waiting for you. If it’s you, you can surely wake her."
As he spoke, he raised his hand to wipe the tears from the girl’s face, "As for your father-in-law, I believe he’s also alive, just encountering some minor setbacks, temporarily unable to free himself."
Veerle nodded, biting her lip. More and more tiny pearls appeared, falling drop by drop onto Carter’s face.
Typically, this would be when Carter should awaken.
But she didn’t. Veerle tried everything, telling stories, expressing her longing, barely stopping short of giving the sleeping beauty a kiss, but she still couldn’t wake her.
Wayne’s eyebrow twitched. If nothing else worked, he would have to perform surgery on Veerle’s mother.
Lacking experience, there was a high chance the surgery would leave Carter looking like Saina. Wayne didn’t want to resort to that unless absolutely necessary.
Veerle failed in her attempts and laid down on her mother, crying bitterly. As Wayne had predicted, watching hope shattered and replaced by despair only plunged one into a bottomless abyss of pain.
"Let me try!"
Wayne gritted his teeth, patted Veerle’s shoulder, and since she wasn’t waking up, decided to proceed with the surgery.
"Let’s get this straight, the risk is huge. It might distort her will. If something goes wrong later, don’t blame me..."
Wayne muttered under his breath, facing Veerle’s hope-filled eyes. He felt a monumental pressure and, after considerable thought, still took Carter’s hand.
As soon as he touched the Knight’s Medal, golden light skyrocketed, and warm sunlight enveloped Wayne’s entire body.
Chestplate, shoulder guards, arm guards, and even the gauntlets shone with gold, spreading a solid carpet of glittering Knight’s Armor.
The blinding golden light was filled with a holy presence. Each piece of armor was carved with artistry, every curve brimming with power and beauty, as if forged from the rarest gold, noble and splendid, seemingly powerful enough to drive away all darkness from the world.
Veerle gaped as Wayne donned the Sun Knight’s armor, the pearls of her tears intermittently falling as she subconsciously tilted her head.
She knew that Wayne was the heir to the Naturalist Knight, but how could the same person claim the inheritance of two Knight identities?
This made no sense!
Valkyrie was utterly stunned. Although, she wondered what the Goddess was thinking and what the current standards for recruiting Knights were.
Could this really be acceptable?
Valkyrie wasn’t questioning Wayne’s worth; his talent was undeniable. But given Wayne’s private life... it didn’t seem very wholesome.
Forgive her bluntness, but Wayne’s spirit as a Knight lowered the bar for all Sun Knights, capable of dragging the average down to an abyssal depth with his alone.
Wayne was unbothered. The moment he had touched the sarcophagus, The Book of Greed had partly absorbed the Sun Knight’s power. He simply hadn’t bothered to transform into the Sun Knight since then—no thrill in it, having done so thrice already and lacking the eager excitement of the first time.
