Mythical Monster Evolution-Chapter 44: Trial of Monsters
Chapter 44: Trial of Monsters
After a very strange conversation with a very strange man, Kai and Isla still went ahead with their original plan, which was to go to the World Tree and take on the Trial of Monsters.
And that’s exactly what they did as Isla quickly told Kai where to go to return to the Elven Kingdom. Still, now that Kai had 40% of the Blue Dragon Bloodline in his blood, he didn’t seem to be affected by any hallucinogen anymore. Maybe he had become resistant because of it.
However, he hadn’t received a skill about it, so he couldn’t be quite sure yet.
A few minutes later, as they arrived a few meters away from the Kingdom, Kai analyzed it, spotting the World Tree.
Currently, with the amount of Monster Energy he had, he would easily be able to make his way to the World Tree even after recharging it.
That’s why, wasting any more time, he activated [Shadow Cloak] and began moving like an actual shadow through the Elven Kingdom. Not a single elf was able to see him as he ran in the middle of their roads. Then, two minutes later, Kai got extremely close to the World Tree, which was extremely well guarded.
There were guards on all sides of the tree, guarding every single entrance into it. Kai wanted to test if the skill would work even now. He walked in front of the guards; however, none of them reacted whatsoever, which meant that they were not strong enough to see through his skill, which was exactly what he needed.
It had only taken around three minutes to get to the World Tree, and he was about to enter inside it. The best part about all this was the fact that he didn’t have to fight a single person to do so. He got in without the slightest problem.
As he walked inside the World Tree, there was a portal in the middle of it that was left unguarded, surprisingly. After all, the elves probably didn’t expect a monster to have a camouflage skill powerful enough to walk through their entire Kingdom unseen.
’It seems like the King didn’t lie to us. It really is here.’
The portal was massive and clearly hadn’t been used in a long time, as the stones surrounding it were covered in moss.
Kai deactivated [Shadow Cloak] since there was no longer anyone to hide from and asked Isla what he needed to do next.
’You will simply have to walk inside the portal, and the Trial will begin.’
Kai nodded and began approaching the portal. It was emitting very powerful energy; however, Kai knew that it wasn’t harmful. It could only help further down the line.
He walked through the portal as the system immediately acted up, sending a bunch of messages to Kai’s way.
[You have entered the Trial of Monsters.]
-Beep!
[You have been recognized as a special entry.]
[Initialization of analysis.]
[Analysis Completed.]
[Identity: Varkul’s Successor.]
[The difficulty and the rewards of the trial have been adjusted.]
[Difficulty: Hell]
[Rewards: Unknown]
[Because of your identity, it is impossible for you to die inside the Trial of Monsters. However, every time you die within a trial, the difficulty will increase.]
[Time limit before being ejected from the Trial: 5 days]
Kai read all of the messages, remembering all of the important information and was a little mind-blown by everything. After all, Isla hadn’t told him about all this stuff. However, it didn’t seem like she knew in the first place. It was a surprise for her too, based on the expression that was etched on her face.
[First Stage: Attacking a City]
[Description: Your goal is to take over a human city, killing everyone inside it without any exceptions.]
As the message appeared, Kai found himself in the middle of a vast plain. A bit further up north was a small city. It seemed to be protected by some ramparts, making it difficult to tell just how many people were currently inside it.
"Isla? You there?" Kai asked as he looked around himself.
However, as he did so, he couldn’t find Isla anywhere at all. It seemed that he would be completely alone for this stage. Maybe receiving help was against the rules of this stage or this entire trial.
It was possible, after all.
Noticing that she was gone, Kai didn’t panic, as he knew that his time in this trial was limited. He had five days to complete as many stages as possible. He didn’t know how many there were, so he had to hurry up.
Kai immediately began running toward the village. He was far enough that the guards on the ramparts wouldn’t see him yet.
***
Two hours later.
Kai had managed to sneak his way inside the human city, and he was currently hiding in a dark alley with nothing but trash inside it. Kai was observing just how many people were inside and how many of them could pose an actual threat to him.
There seemed to be at least 3,000 humans in total in the city. Kai had crossed paths with a few pretty powerful beings that could pose a threat. In total, he had seen 10. However, before he could continue to snoop around a little bit more, he needed to take a break since he ran out of Monster Energy and didn’t want to use his spiritual energy to recharge it.
Nevertheless, this would be a very tall task.
He needed to eliminate over 3,000 humans.
’Will I absorb their bloodline while I’m in here?’ Kai thought, as this world didn’t seem real.
It was most likely a creation from the Trial of Monsters, which meant that nothing here was even real in the first place. If Kai was able to obtain bloodlines from this place, then it would be amazing. However, he doubted it.
Five minutes later, Kai had regained some of his Monster Energy and decided to try out if he would be able to gain bloodlines or experience from killing one human.
He found a human walking alone with no one around and killed him without anyone noticing.
Then, a message from the system appeared before him.
[You have killed a human.]
[Do you wish to devour him?]
