Chapter 36: Royalty

The elf’s clothes were all butchered with holes all over them. However, Kai had to say that the overall look of the elf was great. His body looked weak, but his face was definitely unlike anything he had seen before. The beauty was basically radiating from it. His long blonde hair and pointy ears also highlighted the fact that he really was an elf.

Kai heard some gibberish coming out of the elf’s mouth and simply frowned, waiting for Isla to translate what he had just said.

"Hm, he said that he was royalty and that if we touch him, the elves will never forgive us."

Kai heard that and immediately thought it was complete bullshit. Why would royalty come into a half-abandoned cave with only a pickaxe and nothing else? And why wouldn’t he have guards with him?

"Do you believe him?" Kai asked as he sat down, continuing to stare down the elf.

Isla shrugged as she flew closer to the elf, analyzing him extremely closely.

"A fairy?" The elf’s eyes widened right away. "H-How?"

The elf scattered back as he fell on his ass, almost falling into the lava and killing himself as a result.

"Fairies are said to have disappeared thousands of years ago... They became a forgotten race, one that ceased to exist completely."

Isla shrugged.

She simply had the appearance of a fairy, but she wasn’t one whatsoever. Maybe it was Varkul’s plan to have given her wings and this appearance; however, she knew very well that one day, after regaining most of her strength, she would be able to deal with this problem and go back to her previous appearance, which would send shivers down the backs of many.

Nevertheless, as the elf continued to be overwhelmed, Isla was looking very closely at the elf’s skin, clearly searching for something. However, after a few more moments, she flew back toward Kai while shaking her head.

"He doesn’t seem to be royalty. You can kill him if you want. I’m curious to see how the system will react when you kill an elf. Will it be the same as when you killed a human?" Isla asked, as she still remembered that for Kai to turn into a human, it would require a lot of killing.

100,000 humans, to be more precise.

It was possible to achieve, but if Kai ever did, he would be despised by the whole world. The only positive is that his appearance would change and so would his identity. Still, killing so many humans, Kai wasn’t sure if he was ready to do such a thing, even if this was a game.

After all, for Kai, this was even more real than real life. This was now his daily life; he did not want it to go into ruins. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Let’s listen to what he has to say," Kai declared as he got closer to the elf, sitting on one of the many rocks scattered around.

With each step Kai took, the elf observed it, making sure that nothing would go out of his sight.

"Please! Don’t kill me!" The elf continued to shout. "The Elven Kingdom will reward you if you bring me back safely! I swear on my life!"

Isla translated right away, and Kai began rubbing his chin very slowly.

"Hm. Tell him that we agree. We’ll bring him back safely to the Elven Kingdom."

Kai didn’t need to hear any more. The elf’s chest was panting repeatedly, barely trying to stay awake as blood kept pouring out from his wounds. He was doing his best to stay rational, but only desperation seemed to make it out.

"But—"

Isla tried to interject; however, she was immediately cut off without a moment’s notice.

"We can’t stay in this cave forever. We will have to come out at one point. Might as well come out with an elf; it might make the Spirit King’s opinion about us change. What do you think?"

Isla tried to find a way to counter those arguments but fell short. She told the elf that they would help him go back to the Elven Kingdom and entered Kai’s Monster Core after that.

If she truly had been the reason why Kai had been attacked, then it was much safer this way.

Isla wasn’t sure if it was related to who she was or her current appearance. After all, she kept hearing that fairies had disappeared and been forgotten... there was a chance that something happened years ago.

"You... how? How did she disappear?"

The elf continued to speak, which sounded like pure gibberish to Kai’s ears.

’I better get a skill that will make me learn all those annoying languages down the road,’ Kai thought, annoyed that Isla kept needing to tell him what was coming out of that guy’s mouth.

Instead of speaking, Kai made some signs with his hands, telling the elf to follow him.

It took a bit of time, but they safely made it out of the cave without facing any more of those rats.

Before leaving the cave, Kai tried to look around, trying to feel if anyone dangerous was looking at him. However, he didn’t feel anything out of place. Everything seemed fine; even Isla agreed. Still, that was also what she had felt back then before Kai escaped on the brim of luck.

"How did you capture the son of the Elven King?" a voice echoed inside Kai’s mind. "And why is a Nocturne Dragon roaming inside the Elven Territory? The Blue Dragon is the one in charge here."

As soon as the elf accompanying them had stepped out of the cave, Kai felt a knife press against his throat. But that wasn’t only it, as three elves all held spears against his throat, ready to kill him at any time.

"Wait! He didn’t do anything to me! He’s the one who saved me from certain death!" The royal elf spoke up as he pushed the spearheads away, putting his body before Kai. "I was attacked by a bunch of Ratbo, and he saved me as soon as he found me... so instead of threatening him, you should thank him and reward him."

Kai kept track of the conversation as Isla continued to translate everything.

It seemed that this pitiful elf hadn’t told them a lie, surprisingly.

He really was royalty.
