Chapter 196: The battle for evolution

The cloud-severing spear shattered and broke apart.

Anon’s injuries had reversed, and seeing the irreversible damage of his spear, he could only sigh in dismay.

As a true master of the spear, even a twig could be wielded in such a way that it could slay second worlders.

However, in the confrontation between him and the knight, another true master, the sky-grade cloud-severing divine weapon was exposed.

If not for this lesser-grade divine weapon, even the thirty-six scales of dragon formation could not damage Anon to such an extent.

Whilst silvery energy particles swirled around Anon’s figure eighty-one times, Anon’s eyes landed on the longsword that had not shattered.

"A peerless grade divine weapon." Anon sighed with meaning.

Magic treasures and divine weapons were separated into four grades: mortal-grade, sky-grade, arcane-grade, and peerless-grade.

Mortal and sky were levels to be wielded by those below the third world.

An arcane-grade weapon, like the wormhole anklets Anon owned, could be wielded by third worlders; however, only fourth worlders could unearth its full potential.

Similarly, a peerless-grade divine weapon could be wielded by fourth worlders; however, only fifth worlders could unearth its true might.

Even a fifth-world stellar fighter from earth could not damage a peerless-grade divine weapon.

This was because the peerless-grade was the only grade of magic treasures and divine weapons that could evolve into a higher grade.

A higher grade?

Beyond worlds, held in the grasp of an otherworldly entity.

As for how these treasures could evolve further, Anon did not yet know.

"Without a spear, my cards have weakened greatly." Anon shook his head and sighed with frustration.

At that time, he had already grasped the core of true mastery by the third round with the knight, and yet, he continued to pretend for ninety more.

Not only the Deity Transformation Spear Art, but other Apex-tier techniques were born and improved upon.

However, much less the black and white lightning, even the thirty-six scales of dragon formation was much more powerful than those techniques.

Right now though, without the cloud-severing spear, the black and white lightning attacks could not be wielded at this time.

Using this knight’s peerless-grade divine weapon as a spear was improbable. Such a weapon already had a soul that was developed by the knight Anon had just slain. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Now that the knight was dead, without his intervention, Anon could indeed wield this longsword, but not in the way he could wield a spear.

Mastering a completely different weapon was not something he, Anon, was unfamiliar with.

But to reach the core of true mastery in the sword before facing off against his next opponent?

To develop a sword technique capable of resonating with the black and white lightning before he faced off against his next opponent?

Or to master the thirty-six scales of dragon formation based solely on the single memory of confronting the knight, before facing off against his next opponent?

Improbable and impossible!

"Argh!"

Whether it was simply due to frustration or really due to the pain of the evolution, Anon grabbed his head and released an agonizing roar.

There was no end to the inverted sky dimension.

Slaughter.

Slaughter endlessly.

Or slaughter until salvation.

The evolving purple cloud would soon resonate with another opponent, and he would soon be facing a life-and-death encounter again.

Very likely, this opponent would be ten times more dangerous than the knight, a hundred times more terrifying than Blood Fiend, and countless times more frightening than the daemon.

"Ah!"

Anon suddenly thought of something. He grabbed the hilt of the longsword and made his way to the edge of the purple cloud.

It had already devoured the knight’s mature cloud and was now continuously expanding.

Anon did not offer the longsword to the world.

After all, was this world going to kindly bestow a peerless-grade spear to him?

Likely, it would be some grimoire based on the magic of that knight. Anon had no time to contemplate another kind of magic.

Instead, he sat on the edge of the purple cloud and began inscribing magic spells on the longsword.

After completing that, he placed it to his side and opened his left palm. The dark grimoire of blood and curse magic gently landed on his palm, and he began flipping through the pages.

Soon after, he closed his eyes and began meditating on the secrets within the magic grimoire.

At times, he would draw magic spells in the air, and at other times, he would flip through hundreds of pages in seconds.

Sometimes he meditated on the grimoire’s secrets, and other times, he would etch new spells onto the longsword.

Anon completely shifted his focus to the dark grimoire and true magic.

Since his soul was greatly aligned with true magic, this was naturally the fastest way to increase his overall strength.

Anon’s dark soul...

He was unlike Blood Fiend, a resident of this world that likely had limited talent in true magic.

He was not like that particular daemon either.

No matter how Anon looked at it, that daemon was too pitiful.

After hundreds of thousands of years, it had mastered a very small number of useful magic spells.

Maybe it had focused too long on useless magic spells that caused another’s stomach to churn or something.

Or maybe it had focused too long on that soul curse spell which it had not mastered.

Speaking of that soul curse spell...

.....

Anywhere around six hundred meters in diameters was the limit of the nascent cloud. Adding another zero, anywhere around six thousand meters was the limit of the mature cloud.

Anon was completely unaware, but he had achieved an unusual record in this world. It was something that he would only come to learn far in the future.

Far...

This was speaking only in comparison to the length of his life so far. In the general context of all things, he would soon come to learn of this truth.

Anyway, at this period, Anon’s Mature Cloud was on the cusp of evolving into an Ancestor Cloud.

When the augmented Mature Cloud completed its evolution, an imperceptible ripple escaped its body, spreading far across the infinite crimson heaven.

Anon slowly opened his eyes.

The ancient golden suns gave birth to a deep, unholy power. Thereafter, rings of cursed blood aura escaped his eyes. Each blood ring had unique patterns etched onto its surface.

These rings then intertwined and formed an eye pattern.

Soon after, this pattern faded away.

"Right after its evolution, it had already resonated with another Mature Cloud. Tch! Does this world wish for my death so desperately?" Anon gritted his teeth before sighing in dismay.

While there may not be a mature cloud the exact size as one’s own, giving one a set time before a resonance, there were too many smallest mature clouds and largest mature clouds.

Simply put, nascent clouds that recently evolved, and mature clouds that were on the cusp of evolving into ancestor clouds.

Hence, in the blink of an eye, Anon found his mature cloud resonating with another mature cloud which was on the brink of evolving into an ancestor cloud.

Anon sighed and closed his eyes.

Once more, he began meditating on the mysteries of the dark grimoire.

One must understand that he was desperately attempting to wield similar power to what he could wield with a spear, but with true magic instead.

This was indeed, a race against time.

.....

Drifter clouds raced across the infinite crimson sea. This crimson sea was indeed an endless expanse.

In the end, from a time before the great rebirth, this world was already unlike earth.

After the great rebirth, the Victorious Fighting Country, with merely six cities and less than two handfuls of forbidden zones, was larger than any continent in the old world.

Even earth had undergone a transformation due to the secrets of the great rebirth.

For how large was the Lost Land?

Not many knew.

This inverted sky world, before the sky and the earth was reversed, was many times larger than earth. With the secrets of the great rebirth, the world grew even more mysterious.

The crimson heaven had no end.

Two mature clouds on the cusp of evolving drew closer to each other.

On one cloud, there was a swarthy-skinned youth with a longsword in hand. The blade of this longsword had an unusual gleam, and had intertwining black and red characters throughout.

His upper body was bare, and his hair was wild. On the other hand, his lower body was protected by dark armor decorated in blood-colored draconic markings.

His aura was chaotic, almost as chaotic as his swordsmanship. Although he wasn’t burly, his muscles were compact and robust.

Every slash contained indomitable might!

The second cloud had a burly figure with six arms and six horns that curved upwards and formed a horned crown above its head.

On this purple cloud, there was a small mountain of corpses submerged in a blood pool that was situated behind the monstrous daemon.

This humanoid figure sat with its legs folded and its back straight. Its sitting figure alone was at least six or seven feet tall.

Four arms sprouted out of its back.

There was a cruel grin on its face as it played with a skull in its hand. Upon seeing the swarthy-skinned youth, the monstrous humanoid figure burst out in dark, boisterous laughter.

Rising up, it stood thirteen or fourteen feet tall.

Its vicious aura radiated endless murderous intentions and caused manifestations of strange monstrosities behind its figure.

"Oh? A daemon?"

The swarthy-skinned youth, seemingly lost in its sword practice, suddenly froze.

Sensing the creature’s gaze, the wild-haired youth turned around and flashed a devastating smile toward the daemonic creature.

"To evolve from nascent to mature, it was a daemon. Now, to evolve from mature to an ancestor, it is also a daemon..."

"This world knows me well. Oh, how I love killing daemons!"
