Myriad Devils-Chapter 137: That’s it
"I dare ask, do you know any of these so-called Apex-Tier spear techniques?" Anon grew fed up with Seth’s insistent ramblings, cutting him off.
"Do I know any?" Seth inhaled a cold breath of air as he frowned in reaction to Anon’s question.
"Naturally, I know more than you can imagine." Seth stretched out his hand and ordered, "Give me your spear."
Anon heard his order and met Seth’s gaze with a strange look in his eyes. It was almost as if he was looking at a mentally challenged individual.
His tone grew soft as he explained with patience, "When we stellar fighters brand divine weapons, it grants us control over them. Whilst you may have been able to wield my mortal-grade divine weapon, this sky-grade divine weapon, cloud severing spear in particular, isn’t something that can even be held by another."
Seth remained silent, his hand still outstretched.
Then, a foreign energy washed over Anon, causing his brows to knit tightly.
The tattoos on the palm and back of his hand began squirming and shaking before lifting from his skin and rushing into the air.
The swarming mass of characters interlocked with one another before solidifying into a black spear that slowly drifted towards Seth outstretched arm.
As he grabbed onto it, Seth slowly rose to his feet whilst casually commenting, "My mastery of the spear is also beyond the realm of true mastery. Dear Anon, let me tell you..."
Seth twirled the spear masterfully as he said, "I’ve reached the pinnacle of the staff. Even if a foreign weapon lands before my eyes, I can almost immediately grasp true mastery over it."
He did not put much emphasis on his words as his attention seemed to be on the spear as he played with it, twisting it, spinning it, and thrusting it.
"Reaching the pinnacle of two paths may be impossible, but reaching just shy comes down to talent, luck, knowledge, experience, and then some. Still, I lack none." He proclaimed.
Anon only listened as Seth continued, "In fact, I doubt that there are many, if any, who can compete with me in the area of weapon mastery. I may very well be equal to the greatest geniuses to wield each weapon at utilizing there weapon of focus. As for the staff..."
"If I am to claim to be the second best, then there is no one across the worlds capable of proclaiming themselves as the best. Such words can only be said to be blasphemy." Seth had a grin that played on his lips.
Anon sat on the ground and folded his legs.
Though Seth rambled on endlessly, Anon had no intention of stopping him.
So, after a while, when Seth finally brought his words to an end, he created some distance between him and Anon.
"Watch this properly, because I will not redo them." Seth said this and held the spear vertically in front of his body. His feet were shoulder-width apart, and his knees were slightly bent.
Then, he stomped his front foot into the earth causing rumble to fly into the air as he thrusted the spear forward whilst pouring out his bodily momentum into the spear.
Retracting the spear, Seth stared in the location he had just thrusted towards. He remained silent, staring intently at the space just in front of him.
There was only silence permeating the air for a short amount of time.
When Anon began to wonder what he was doing, he couldn’t help but take in a deep breath of air as an illusory figure began forming just in front of Seth.
This was a hazy humanoid figure with a gaping wound on its chest.
Seth then attacked the figure once again. This time, he attacked utilizing a horizontal motion, sweeping the figure off-balance with the spear.
As if angered, the figure wielded an imaginary sword and attacked Seth. However, each strike that the illusory figure made, was met with an angled spear that seamlessly parried its attacks.
Seth parried for some time.
Another imaginary sword appeared, wielded by a second figure.
And then a third.
Seth showcased amazing footwork as he parried these imaginary swords.
The spear in his hand trembled in glee as he effortlessly showcased why he had arrogantly claimed to be beyond master level.
Finally, he countered.
Towards an incoming sword, Seth first angled the spear in a particular direction as these two opposing forces met, before he spun the spear in a circular motion and then thrusted towards one of the phantom-like figures.
As the spear penetrated the figure’s head, the rest of its body began dissipating. At the same time, seeing this, the other two appeared stunned for a time.
With a quick snapping motion, Seth struck out towards another of these phantom-like figures with the spear. Instantly, a second figure was defeated.
Quickly reacting, the third figure alerted himself, but Seth closed in the distance between them and struck out. Although the figure blocked with his spear, Seth fired out a rapid succession of thrusts that quickly proved too difficult to defend against, overwhelming him.
As these imaginary individuals dispersed into the wind, Seth released a breath of turbid air and looked towards Anon with an emotionally lacking gaze.
"Did you get that?" Seth asked whilst tossing the spear towards Anon.
Grabbing hold of the shaft, Anon observed the spear in his hand in silence. At the same time, the excited trembling of the spear’s body stopped when it returned to Anon’s hand.
Seth saw this and smiled, "At the very least, sky-grade divine weapons are of a quality that they can sense when they’re held by I."
Anon clicked his tongue but did not probe. Instead, he replied calmly, "Yes, I got it."
Holding the spear slightly in front of him, vertically, Anon entered the stance that Seth used, with his feet shoulder-width apart.
Then, he stomped into the earth, causing his foot to sink into the earth and for rubble to burst forth into the near vicinity as he transferred his bodily momentum into the spear that he thrusted forward.
Boom!
A muffled explosion occurred as Seth grinned from ear to ear.
’Was the essence of this beast general greater than the one I consumed? We’ve bought consumed only one, so why is his base stronger than mines?’ Seth casually thought this.
He didn’t dwell on it and continued to follow Anon’s movements as the latter perfectly mimicked Seth’s actions.
From the stance, to the final barrage of jab thrusts, Anon repeated everything akin to a mirror recording of Seth’s display.
Exhaling a breath of turbid air, Anon’s eyes gleamed with a trace of competitiveness.
"Show me something more challenging." He smirked.
"That’s it." Seth replied with a bit of vibrance in his voice, and a grin on his face, matching Anon’s energy.
Sensing this, Anon tossed his staff back to Seth, awaiting expectantly.
"I said, that’s it." Seth repeated dully and tossed the spear back. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
The energy his words previously carried, diminished in an instant as he sat down and assumed a meditative posture.
Anon’s eyes widened as he realized what Seth meant the first time.
That is all.
Seth’s words only held such energy because, once again, he could not suppress that mischievously playful nature.
Seeing how excited Anon got, only to be left disappointed... Indeed, he garnered a great deal of pleasure from it.
Seth smiled meaningfully and said, "From the stance to the thrust, and the moves that followed. I seamlessly transitioned from one low-tier technique to the next. When I say, that’s it, I mean that what you have is everything you need."
"Come back to me when you locate its core and evolve your spear. You wish to grasp an Apex-Tier spear technique, you wish to achieve true mastery, so you should at least be capable of doing this much. Only then will I satisfy your desire." Seth said this and closed his eyes.
"Evolve my spear?" Anon repeated quizzically, appearing confused. However, Seth had his eyes closed, and his lips were shut. He sat in silence, and did not reply to Anon’s question.
’True father speaks to me in riddles. And now, Seth also wishes to speak like this?’ Anon had a strange gaze, but seeing as Seth had not replied, Anon did not make a fool of himself.
Instead, he glanced at the staff in his hand and then at Seth. He had a meaningful gaze as he stared at Seth for a while before shifting his gaze into the farther lands of this drifting rock.
He chose a direction randomly before opting to head towards it. Behind him, a myriad number of afterimages formed, each displaying a distinct act.
With each step Anon took, an afterimage was left in his wake, and his spear was tilted at a different angle, or thrusted at a particular direction, or in a particular way.
He sometimes slashed at the space in front of him with this spear, whether that be vertically, or horizontally. And he sometimes drew circles in the air before thrusting.
Finally, he reached the edge of the drifting rock.
The many images that were left in his wake faded away as he looked over the edge, only to see another drifting rock some distance below.
Although they were located in the lowest drifting rocks, it was still difficult to see the earth beneath all the drifting rocks.
Though hard to tell, there was likely only a handful of drifting rocks below their own. Possibly, there were weaker beast generals below, but it was now too late to bother with those.
Having consumed the strength of the beast generals that they had, to grow, they needed to consume stronger strength.
After all, they would only acquire a percentage of the beast general’s strength after consuming their essence.
Evidently, if Anon had consumed the beast general’s essence and grasped all of its strength, then there would be no need to focus on techniques whilst Seth recovered.
He could even step onto a higher drifting rock and hunt for himself.
Coupled with some basic skills with the spear, he’d be on equivalent level with these low-level beast generals.
His base strength would’ve already surpassed the third layer of the second world, and breached into the threshold of the third world.
"Evolve huh?" Anon twirled the spear in his hand before slumping onto the ground.
He rested on his back, hugging the spear against his chest and began staring at the countless drifting rocks that littered the sky.
At the same time, Seth’s movements constantly replayed in Anon’s mind, and this was reflected in Anon’s dark gold eyes.
