My Wife is a Hidden Big Shot-Chapter 238 - 232: Aurora, Can I Kiss You?
A raging inferno wildly devoured everything in the ancient castle. The CRACKLE and POP of the flames sounded like the terrifying, demonic laughter of a devil.
Suddenly, a circular opening was sliced through a wall of fire, and a dark figure leaped out with ease.
On her back, she carried a boy who was dazed from the black smoke.
Arthur muttered to himself, "I can’t die... Ahm... and my sister are waiting for me..."
She paused for a moment, as if thinking of someone, then calmly reassured him, "You won’t die. Someone is waiting for me outside, too."
Using her Power, she once again carved through a wall of fire and slipped through.
"Aurora—Aurora Sinclair—*cough, cough, cough*..."
A familiar voice called out from a corner.
It was faint and intermittent; if one weren’t listening carefully, it would have been easy to miss.
Aurora Sinclair’s ears twitched. A flash of shock, then fury, appeared in her eyes as she sped toward the sound.
The fire in that direction wasn’t as intense, but sporadic explosions made it very frightening.
When Aurora Sinclair arrived, she saw several Eastern Highlanders carrying an unconscious man as they tried to rush out.
Aside from some scorched hair, Alvin Morgan seemed otherwise unharmed.
He was constantly adjusting his watch, leading the men to find an escape route.
"Alvin... Morgan—"
Her cool voice was laced with an anger unlike her usual placid calm.
Alvin Morgan froze, then immediately turned and ran to her. His eyes filled with anxiety as he looked her up and down. "Aurora, are you hurt?"
Aurora Sinclair scowled at him, then raised a hand and sliced an opening through the nearby flames.
As if in a fit of pique, she said, "I’m angry. I don’t want to talk to you."
The others’ eyes lit up, and they immediately followed behind her, escaping through the cleaved wall of fire.
Alvin Morgan rubbed his nose and sighed to himself. "Aurora, this way..."
Aurora Sinclair pressed her lips together and said nothing, but her feet still carried her in the direction he indicated.
Compared to the eastern part of the castle where the fire was raging, the flames in the West District were less intense. The group passed through the West District and ran toward the castle’s west gate, which was near a lake and relatively safe.
Aurora Sinclair set Arthur down by the lake and turned to run back toward the West District, but Alvin Morgan was still right behind her.
"Go back—"
"The password to the secret room changes daily. You can’t get in." Alvin Morgan stepped forward and grabbed her hand. "I’ll take care of myself. I won’t hold you back..."
Aurora Sinclair pressed her lips together and pulled her hand away, seemingly still angry.
"When we get back, you can punish me however you want. Don’t be angry, okay?" Alvin Morgan reached for her hand again, this time holding on tight. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"You’ll practice your punches 100 times when we get back."
"Fine..."
Only then did Aurora Sinclair let him pull her along as they ran quickly toward the study.
When they arrived, the study door was ajar, and the keypad next to it had been deliberately destroyed.
Alvin Morgan’s heart tightened. He immediately checked the bookshelf; the Sun God Totem inside had been moved, and even the painting on the wall had been torn.
"Someone was here."
Relying on his memory, Alvin Morgan rearranged the Sun God Totem several times until the locked bookshelf finally opened.
The two of them immediately went inside, but this time, the door locked automatically as soon as they entered.
Alvin Morgan raised his gun and advanced cautiously when a mechanical voice suddenly sounded from an unknown source.
"Self-destruct sequence initiated. Countdown: 30 minutes—"
Alvin Morgan’s expression changed drastically. He slammed his fist into the wall.
"Dammit..."
This was the first time she had seen him so furious.
He had fallen for a trap.
Aurora Sinclair had already turned and was trying to pry the door open, but it was made of a special metal and seemed to have no seams. It couldn’t be opened without brute force.
"Aurora, follow me."
Alvin Morgan pursed his lips and pulled Aurora Sinclair downstairs.
The power here hadn’t been cut.
The lights were as bright as day.
The iron chains next to the Nutrition Repair Chamber had been severed by bullets, and the mysterious woman was gone.
Alvin Morgan immediately checked the computers, but the mainframes of both had been riddled with bullets, clearly destroyed on purpose.
"Aurora, find the toolbox—"
Then, using various tools from the toolbox, Alvin Morgan dismantled the two computer mainframes.
He sifted through countless broken components, found the corresponding intact plug-ins, and began to reassemble them.
"Aurora, give me your watch."
Alvin Morgan stripped down every usable electrical appliance nearby. Countless scrap parts were connected to her watch in his hands as if by magic.
Aurora Sinclair held her breath, sitting quietly to the side as she watched him kneel on the floor, calibrating the watch.
Time ticked by, second by second.
The room was so quiet you could hear them breathing.
His expression remained calm, his lips pressed into a tight line.
If not for the beads of sweat multiplying on his forehead, she would have thought he was merely conducting a routine physics experiment, as calmly as always, which always put her at ease.
With five minutes left, Alvin Morgan’s fingers moved faster and faster.
minutes.
minutes.
minute.
"BEEP—"
"Incorrect code. Authorization failed. You have one final attempt."
Alvin Morgan’s hands trembled slightly. The floor tiles were already slick with his sweat.
"Aurora, are you afraid of dying?" Alvin Morgan turned to look at her, his face pale, his breathing shallow.
His back was soaked through with sweat; he looked as if he’d just been pulled from the water.
Aurora Sinclair hugged him from behind. "I’m not afraid..."
"I don’t want you to die."
After rapidly punching in a string of code, Alvin Morgan swept Aurora Sinclair into his arms, tossed her into the Nutrition Repair Chamber, and shut the heavy glass door.
"Alvin Morgan—"
Aurora Sinclair’s face fell. Lying inside, she pounded furiously on the reinforced glass.
The Nutrition Repair Chamber had activated. The nutrient fluid inside would be enough to protect her from the explosion.
"Aurora, see you in the next life..."
Alvin Morgan leaned against the Nutrition Repair Chamber, giving the girl inside a deeply tender smile.
He traced the outline of her face on the glass with his finger, as if to burn her image deep into his final memories.
Countdown:
"BANG—"
A massive explosion—
A fist-sized hole shattered the reinforced glass of the Nutrition Repair Chamber, and a small fist punched through.
It was covered in blood.
"Alvin Morgan—"
Before his astonished eyes, a figure leaped out of the Nutrition Repair Chamber with incredible speed, tackled him to the ground, and pinned him down firmly.
The black of her irises seemed to be lightening.
The Power emanating from her body gradually intensified.
"Aurora, it seems I made the right mistake..." Alvin Morgan said with a smile as he looked at her furious face.
But another loud CRACK echoed through the room.
The floor tile next to his ear cracked.
Alvin Morgan’s smile froze. "Don’t... don’t be angry. Your hand is injured..."
But she continued to stare at him, her eyes wide, her lips pressed so tightly they had turned pale. She was clearly at the peak of her fury.
Alvin Morgan furrowed his brow, a pitiful look in his eyes. "My shoulder hurts..."
Aurora Sinclair stared at him for a long moment before slowly releasing his shoulder. She shifted back and sat down squarely on his stomach.
Alvin Morgan suddenly sat up, pulling her into his arms. His own arms were trembling slightly.
"I was terrified just now, but I’m glad I came with you."
"This is the first time I’ve made a mistake like this. I should have been more careful."
"Thankfully, this system was made by the Morgan Family."
"Thankfully... Mmph..."
Aurora Sinclair covered his mouth, looking at him with a serious expression.
"Don’t you ever do that again."
"When I go to rescue someone, you’re not allowed to follow."
"You’ll practice your punches 500 times when we get back."
A smile flickered in Alvin Morgan’s eyes as he gave a slight nod.
Aurora Sinclair froze. A warm, moist feeling spread across her palm.
She quickly pulled her hand back, the tips of her ears turning red again before the blush spread across her entire face.
This was the first time Alvin Morgan had ever seen her face change color so clearly.
Suddenly, he cradled her head, pressing his forehead against hers. In a slightly hoarse voice, he said, "Aurora, can I kiss you?"
His gaze was fixed on her lips, and his breathing seemed to quicken.
"Can I?"
Aurora Sinclair trembled slightly. Her heart felt a ticklish flutter, as if brushed by a feather, and a warmth spread through her from the inside out.
"I’ll take that as a yes."
Aurora Sinclair nervously closed her eyes.
Alvin Morgan’s head lowered, his lips drawing ever closer...
"BOOM—"
The roar of an explosion made them both freeze.
Alvin Morgan immediately pulled Aurora Sinclair into his arms, shielding her.
A moment later, Aiden Morgan’s rough voice echoed from above them.
"Sir—are you alright?"
Several familiar figures leaped down from the spiral staircase.
"Holy shit—"
