My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 384: The Dragon Family Tree
Chapter 384: The Dragon Family Tree
Three days after the collapse of The Pit, the construction of our small, improvised warrior village was finished.
By the time we were done, we still had over 1,500 brainwashed soldiers, who we kept in the large building before treating them with the new potions.
We received messages from Sephyr and Droman confirming the safe arrival of the refugees we evacuated, and apparently, Grul and Dan wanted to stay in End Forest helping the alchemists.
The boy and the imp always wanted to travel to different parts of the world, so I saw no reason why I would ask them to come back.
During the construction of the village, Melina and I went into the ruins of The Pit to get the magic quartz that was left there, which was attuned to End Forest.
We didn’t want to leave it there since the devils probably knew of its existence, and it was basically a backdoor to our home, so we stowed it away.
When Fuego, the Lava Dragon, returned after the fight with his dragon egg, he gave it back to me, saying that I shouldn’t run from my responsibilities.
I tried to explain that I wasn’t running away but simply protecting the egg, and Fuego accepted that answer for some reason.
Every day, I kept the egg with me inside a backpack I made with the help of Vespera, and it was enchanted to keep it warm.
I noticed that every night, Fuego would pick up the egg and place it in front of his forehead, closing his eyes for a few seconds before putting it back down.
At first, I thought he was just doing some sort of loving act for his egg, kind of like when fathers put their ears in the mother’s belly to listen to their baby.
However, when I saw that a large chunk of his MP was being transferred to the egg, it made me curious to know why he was doing that. Still, I always forgot to ask since our days were quite busy.
Melina also introduced me to Frost, the Ice Dragon, who ended up making a familiar contract with her.
Honestly, I wasn’t really surprised to know that she had started a familiar contract with another dragon since I kind of expected it to happen.
Frost was the youngest of the current dragons in the world, and while he was over 200 years old, his humanoid form made him look like a teenager—in fact, if he had brown hair, he could have easily looked like my little brother.
When Arashi and Frost met Fuego, they had a bit of a cold reaction towards him, which scared me at first, making me believe that they didn’t have a friendly relationship.
Nevertheless, Fuego was the oldest brother of the two dragons, and the only reason that Arashi and Frost were mad at him was because he hadn’t communicated with them ever since Frost was born.
In contrast, Arashi treated Frost like a real big sister, and Frost seemed to enjoy the attention he received whenever he did a good job.
One night, I was flying around the village to make sure that there were no enemies nearby and saw Arashi sitting atop the wall protecting the area.
Funnily enough, when I approached her, I saw that she was eating pieces of chocolate that she had in a rather large wooden bowl.
I was curious about the dragons and their family tree since they all called themselves siblings, and I was wondering who their parents were.
Arashi told me that the first dragon to ever exist in the world was called the Celestial Dragon, and it was a Legendary Beast born from a golden egg that Garon, the God of Beasts, created.
Every dragon that existed was a descendant of the Celestial Dragon, but after thousands of years, their numbers dwindled for different reasons.
The main one was because dragons were asexual beasts, and most of the time, they would only produce an egg after being alive for thousands of years.
Some dragons didn’t even bother with the eggs, so their birthrate was fated to decline with the passing of time.
However, the reason why dragons almost went extinct was the devils, who had been hunting them for the same amount of time that they were alive.
Surprisingly, Arashi told me that she used to have another older brother, who was younger than Fuego but older than her.
He was known as the Rock Dragon and used to reside in the western continent near Kalusia, but I didn’t even hear rumors about him while I was there.
"That might be because my brother died a little over fifty years ago..." Arashi replied.
From what she told me, the Rock Dragon fought a group of devils for days before he was killed, and the only sibling who went to pick up the remains of his body was Arashi.
However, when she arrived at the location where her brother lived, she couldn’t find a single bone or scale from him, so she gave up and returned to Rose Peak.
My theory was that Drakzen was the killer since I knew he was the devil who liked hunting Legendary Beasts, but it was an event that happened over fifty years ago, making me wonder how long the devils had been here before I arrived.
Still, I felt pretty bad for Arashi after she told me the story of the Rock Dragon, mainly because she looked genuinely sad when talking about it.
The Storm Dragon wasn’t very expressive, and she always had a stoic face. However, when talking about her brother, I could feel her sadness.
Honestly, it made me kind of angry that the first emotion I saw from her was depression and sorrow, but I wasn’t angry towards her but at the stupid devils that just kept ruining everyone’s lives.
After a long conversation with Melina’s companion, I went back to our shack and took a well-deserved rest, knowing that the following day, we would be busy healing the rest of the brainwashed soldiers.
