My Werewolf System-Chapter 1252: The Last Of The Altered Hunters

The Altered hunters backed up, but they could feel that they could barely stand. They had already pushed themselves beyond their limits to go against the werewolves and now they could see one more.

The thing was it was a person that they all could recognise who had been plastered on TV screens and talked about everywhere, the very famous Gary Dem.

"Damn it, damn it, of course Gary Dem would be working with the Lupus gang, but for him to appear now, in front of us… this is horrible, what are we going to do?" the hunters asked.

Even if it was one more werewolf that had come to attack them, they thought they wouldn't stand a chance, never mind one of the strongest Altereds in existence.

"Wait guys!" Gary said lifting his hands up. "I'm not here to hurt you, I'm really not, I can tell you, there's no one left in the Garden for you guys to worry about. You should grab some supplies and rest here, you'll all be good… I just need to, there's just something I need to grab from the supply box myself."

Hearing Gary talk, something had clicked in Saiber's head. He had wondered, why Gary had joined them, why was he fighting by their side. He was one of the King's, someone who ran a force as large as the Lupus gang himself.

Now, he was starting to understand, there was something in the supplies they wanted to get, but with Gary's strength, and the information he had, when they had first met in the woods he and his gang could have attacked them and taken the supplies.

Putting all of this together, Saiber could only think of one thing. 'The higher ups, did they make a deal with the Howlers, to help deliver the important item to Edvard, but since Gary is an Altered, they know the Altered hunters wouldn't take too kindly to it, heck I don't think I would have agreed to it either.' Saiber thought. 'The only thing is, what does Gary get out of all of this, what are the Altered hunters giving him in return… is it really what I think.'

Of course, despite Gary's plea the Altered hunters didn't trust him and still held up their weapons, but one of them noticed something.

"That voice… wait doesn't he sound like the Rookie!"

"Wait, yeah, he's the same height as him as well. I thought something was off, that beard and everything it was a fake, that is the Rookie, he had snuck in this whole time, and tricked us!"

The revelation was hitting them all, and they now further didn't trust Gary. They were ready for a fight, until Saiber walked out in front of them.

"All of you stand down." Saiber said. "You all look ridiculous holding up your weapons. Even if all of us including me were to go up against him on our own, do you really think we would be able to take him on? We can barely stand and you're talking about taking on Gary Dem."

The others knew it was impossible, but it was an Altered, and they were hunters, so surely they would have to fight, right?

"Besides, the reason why we're still standing here, is because of him. He… saved my life while I was fighting against the Ironfang, and if I was to take a good guess, he might have been the one to take out the Ironfang as well, am I right?" Saiber asked.

In response, Gary gave a nod.

Saiber was still thinking back to his first meeting with Gary. If he had been revealed at the beginning he would have never trusted him, and wouldn't have thought the line of trail and conclusion he had come to right now.

The only reason he had done was because of Gary's actions so far. Gary could very well kill them all right now, but he hadn't. He had promised himself already that he would listen to the rookie more due to his mistake, so he had decided that he was going to listen to the Rookie this time as well.

"Let's walk, just the two of us, and head to the supplies. The rest of you rest up for now, you have earned it."

They watched carefully as Saiber and Gary walked off away from everyone and as soon as they were out of their sight, all of the Altered hunters almost collapsed falling right to the ground.

The two were walking for a while back to the entrance where they had hidden the supplies. They hadn't said much until Saiber had finally spoken.

"You need to deliver that item to Edvard right? Well right now, we have no clue where he is, or which Garden he will be in. So it might be better for you to stay here." Saiber suggested.

"Haha, I don't think the others will be too happy about that." Gary replied. "This area, it's safe now, but I can't say the same for the rest of the city. With the amount of time that's passed I think Edvard would have been at one of the Gardens by now as well right? So there's something going on. It's best I take the armour and try look for him… but is that really okay with you, now that you know who I am, or what I am?"

Saiber looked away as he responded with a smile. "I have a good idea of who sent you. I have a feeling that this might be the last of the Altered hunters, bought for a last stand. Maybe they knew that as well.

"The Altered hunters, less and less people are joining our cause, and are supporting the anti-Altered movement in other ways. Legislation is being passed all around the world to stop Altereds in the first place, so we are pretty much no longer needed.

"This was us trying to get something out of everything we've done. Too many hunters were lost in this fight. I think once this is over the Altered hunters will no longer exist. So to me, right now, only the Lupus Gang is our enemy, and you won't have to worry about the Altered hunters anymore.

"Oh right, I should report that this area and Garden is now safe."

Reaching in under the heavy black armour, Saiber had reached for a reinforced armoured phone. To get in contact with the others, it wasn't as if he could check it during the fight, and half the time the devices end up being destroyed anyway.

But as he looked at his phone he could see a particular message. "Gary… I think you need to hurry, those others that were with you, they're your friends right?"

"What's happened?"

"I've received a message from Cooper, at the Garden Pluto was sent to… Lupus is there."
