Chapter 93- Melissa’s Visit

Fiona’s words were empty and cold, not even angry. She had long lost all desire to be angry, and now all she felt was emptiness after all these years. She was completely numb to it all, and frankly, deep down, she lost hope in ever seeing the conclusion she wanted to see.

This world had taken away the most precious person in her life and then showed the true colors of her second-favorite person. She lost them both at the same time, all in two different ways.

She had held that grudge against her dad from that moment on, and deep down, had she not known her mother would be sad if she did it, she would’ve killed him with her bare hands for what he did. Instead, she was forced to work under him and listen to his orders for years and years, just because that was her only option in order to get stronger.

That didn’t mean that she would simply forget. That will never happen, for her, the pain was far too deep and far too scarring to forget. That moment lives in her mind rent-free every single second of her life, and she could never get rid of it even if she wanted to.

"..." Geralt stared at Fiona silently, his face blank and expressionless. Then, he sighed as he put his hand on his face. "I haven’t killed your mother, and you know that, Fiona."

"Yes, you did. Her blood is on your hands. You could’ve saved her, you could’ve protected her. But, no, you chose your pride over your own wife." She said with a strong glare.

"There was far more at stake at that moment. I had to make a choice between my wife and the future of my clan. Your mother would’ve agreed with me."

He said, his voice rising a bit, unnaturally so. Geralt was always a very calm and collected person, even at high intensity situations. However, this particular topic was one thing he could not control his emotions when talking about.

"After claiming how she means the world to you. After you claimed she was the most important person for you. You have betrayed her for your own beliefs. You didn’t choose the future of the clan, you chose yourself and your prestige."

"Fiona."

*Swish*

Geralt’s aura spread out of his body, putting immense pressure on Fiona. "Do you think it was easy for me to make that choice, Fiona? Do you think I was gladly ready to sacrifice my wife? I live every day hurting because of that choice. I never stopped thinking about her from the very moment I saw her die in my hands. Who are you to question my love for my wife, huh?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"..."

"You will have to learn that as a leader, there are things far bigger than us that we must sacrifice ourselves for, Fiona. Someone who gives orders and tells people what to do isn’t a leader; that is someone who controls. A true leader would put the lives of his people before his own. He would put their love before his."

His words were cold and even threatening, but for a subtle moment, they sounded sad... A feeling Fiona didn’t even expect to come from someone like Geralt.

"..." Staring at him silently, she blinked before she looked down. "Do you regret it?" She finally asked. "If you went back in time, would you take a different decision?"

A question she hadn’t asked before, but she always wanted to. A question that deep down, she hoped would give her the answer she wanted. If her father showed even a bit of guilt, perhaps even some remorse.

That part of her came up again from the depths of her heart... Only to be slammed back in.

"No. I will still do the exact same things I did. I will never feel remorseful for doing the right thing." The man said.

His words made her heart boil as she clenched her teeth. She felt a rage so strong at that moment that she couldn’t even hold it back anymore.

"Curse you..." She muttered.

"..."

"Curse you, Geralt Vaylor. Curse you and everything you stand for. You wicked bastard." She said with a strong glare. "I have thought to myself that I won’t do it. But, I have decided... You deserve to die. I will make sure to break your neck with my own hands."

Her words were filled with so much malice and hatred that it would make the coldest of hearts shudder... Let alone the heart of the father of that girl, hearing those threats hurled at him. However, Geralt didn’t break eye contact as he slowly lifted his hand and put it on his neck.

"Then, do it." He said. "Become invincible, Fiona. Then, break my neck and end it. I want you to take that fate with your very own hands."

Fiona glared at him before she looked away and stood up. Her face was looking in the opposite direction, so Geralt couldn’t see it, but the pain filled within her eyes at that moment would’ve perhaps changed something within him...

Sadly, he never saw that look and for one reason or another... He won’t see it until a very different time.

***

"Mmmmm..." Elio reached the apartment a bit early as he put his bag aside and sat on the bed. Exhaling a long breath, he was about to lay down when he heard a knock on the door.

"Hm? Is Fiona already back?" He raised an eyebrow. "I thought she would take a bit longer to make it back home."

Standing up, he walked to the door and opened it, only to get immediately tackled down as he felt a soft chest push into his face.

"Elio!!!" Melissa screamed as she wrapped herself around him. "I missed you so much!"

"Melissa? What are you doing here?!"

"I came to visit." She said as she rubbed her face against his neck. She looked quite happy being there as she tightened her grip around him.

"What...? This penthouse isn’t safe for you!"

"Ehhh, don’t worry, I walked into their estate, this place is nothing in comparison." She said. "I missed you so much, Elio. I missed you!!"

"Me too..." He replied as he patted her back and looked around him. ’I really hope Fiona doesn’t notice anything. This is so dangerous, god!’

However, knowing Melissa, she doesn’t care at all about where she goes. With the kind of power she possesses, it was naturally impossible for anyone to really find her if she wished to stay hidden.

"Can you get off me, Melissa? I’m getting suffocated."

"Ehhh, ok, fine fine." The vampire queen replied as she pulled herself away and looked around. "Whoa, talk about a luxurious home. This place looks really good."

"Yeah, it’s really amazing."

"Mmm, that girl sure is rich. Come on, show me around the place."

"..." Adjusting his clothes, Elio nodded. ’I might as well just do what she wants. Fiona shouldn’t be back for a while anyway.’

With that, Elio led Melissa around the place, showing her every room except for Fiona’s room for obvious reasons.

"And this is my room. It’s quite spacious."

Walking in, Melissa looked around for a bit with sparkling eyes. She could smell Elio’s presence within it, and it made her relax immediately. Walking to the bed, she sat down and looked at him with a smile.

"You really deserve to live in a nice place like this, Elio. You have struggled so much." She said. "I’m really happy for you."

"... Thank you." Elio felt touched by her words and nodded. "Well, life has been going well so far for me. Except for what happened a few days ago, things have been looking really good."

"Oh yeah? Are you enjoying the process of turning into my arch nemesis, hehe?" Melissa asked with a joking tone.

"Definitely. Can’t wait to fight you to death, haha." Elio joked back.

"Mmmm, we can fight in a different~" She put her finger on her lip seductively as she winked at him. "It might need a bed though~"

"..." Elio was speechless at the woman. He knew she didn’t mean it, but hearing that sultry tone and seeing her seductive expression, it was very hard not to react visibly. So, he coughed awkwardly.

"By the way, Melissa. I need to talk to you about something important."

"Oh yeah?"

"The vampire I told you about had attacked again." He said.

"Hm, yeah, I heard. He attacked that other Vaylor kid, didn’t he?"

"Hm? That other Vaylor kid? What do you mean?" Elio frowned. He was pretty certain Fiona was a single child. She didn’t have any brothers or sisters.

"Ehh? She didn’t tell you?" Melissa smiled. "Well, it is kind of a known secret. Geralt Vaylor has a child, whom he keeps a secret from the world."

"What?!"

"Yeah, a son he had with a woman aside from his wife. If I remember correctly, I think the boy’s name is Virgo. He is quite the piece. A very interesting one."

"... Wait, wait, wait, pause right there. Fiona has a brother?!"

"Half a brother, yes."
