My Vampire Wives Want My Blood!-Chapter 56- You Can’t Save Everyone
Chapter 56- You Can’t Save Everyone
"Don’t worry about it. It’s not a problem. I’m not struggling or anything." Fiona said as she took a sip from her tea. "Focus on your progress since that’s what’s important now."
For some reason, Fiona felt slightly nervous looking into Elio’s eyes. The boy was staring at her silently as if he was trying to peer through her, and while she didn’t hate that stare, she still felt like she would be exposed if he stared at her a bit longer.
"..." However, the boy didn’t listen and kept staring at her.
’Why is he still staring?’ She pursed her lips. This was the very first time she had met with such a weird situation. Nobody dared to look at her for such a long time. Yet, of all people to do it, it was Elio, the shy boy who can’t keep eye contact for long periods of time in the first place.
She was so confused.
"Hm, I can tell... You know?" He finally spoke in a quiet tone, his face calm and emotionless.
"What?" Fiona raised her head. "What do you mean?"
"I can tell that... You’re not happy."
"..."
His words echoed in her head as if it were an empty room. It took her a second to understand them before she frowned. "Not happy? What are you talking about, Elio?"
"I can see it in your eyes." He pointed at her. "You are not happy, Fiona. You don’t like it."
"... And what makes you think I’m not happy?" She stuttered for a split second before she regained her composure. She just didn’t expect that comment whatsoever. It was like a train had hit her mind, and she was trying to recover. However, she didn’t expect what he said next.
"Even if you try to pretend like it doesn’t matter... You don’t wish this upon yourself or anyone else." Elio said calmly.
"..." Fiona parted her lips to reply, only to hesitate and then close them again. ’I don’t wish it upon myself? That makes no sense. I have chosen to do this, and I have willingly accepted it all. I have accepted that my life is this way... I’m ha...’
Then, she realized. She couldn’t say those words. ’I’m happy with it’. She couldn’t utter those words even though she wanted to.
’Why? What’s wrong with me?’
"I honestly don’t understand most of the things happening. I’m stupid and still very much new to all of this. I don’t get the kind of pressure you have to deal with every day. But, what I know is... You’re not a machine, Fiona. Even though you are amazing, and strong, and very smart... You also have a limit like everyone else." He said.
"My limit doesn’t matter. People’s lives are on the line, and I must save them." Fiona replied quickly with a higher tone than usual. His words had seemingly struck a nerve, and she didn’t like it. But Elio didn’t hesitate or back away.
"Pushing yourself past your limit isn’t the answer, Fiona. I’m sure you know that."
"Pushing myself is the only way I can keep everyone safe. It’s the only way I can save everyone. I would rather be exhausted than let innocent lives die." She said as she crossed her arms and looked away.
"You can’t save everyone..."
"I can!"
As if Elio’s words were like a flame that ignited a large fire, Fiona’s aura exploded out of nowhere as she yelled at him, standing up in anger, her eyes flickering with murderous intent.
Her aura shook the entire cabin violently as if it were a storm. Elio was pushed back several steps, rolling off the table and falling on his back.
"Ugh!"
The moment Fiona heard his groan of pain, she realized what she had done, and her aura immediately retracted as a panicked look appeared on her face.
"No... It’s..." She tried to speak but didn’t know what to say. ’What did I just do? I lost control of myself for a moment. Dammit. Dammit.’ She clenched her teeth.
"It’s ok, I’m fine." Elio stood up as he spoke.
"Just... Just focus on your studies, Elio. I’m really fine..." She said as she picked up her cup of tea and walked out of the room. "I will be back in a bit."
"..." The boy stared at her silhouette before she disappeared. "Sigh, I might’ve been too direct there... But, I’ve never seen Fiona that angry before..."
The way she snapped and yelled was unlike her. That meant that what he said was something she didn’t like at all, and it happened because he said one single thing.
’You can’t save everyone... Huh?’

After that, Elio decided to continue his studies. A while later, Fiona came back and sat down but didn’t say a single word. The atmosphere was a bit tense and awkward, but it wasn’t negative. However, Fiona herself didn’t seem like she was acting normally.
Her face was calm, but she was far quieter than usual. Elio knew it was his doing, so he decided to remain silent too, not to make it any worse. Eventually, Elio finished reading the first book and put it down.
"I finished the book." He said to Fiona.
"Did you understand it?" She said.
"Yes, the concepts were a bit hard to wrap my head around at first but now I understand it better."
"After you’re done studying all the material, you will do a full test before the actual theoretical test. I want to test your knowledge."
"Understood."
"Now, it’s time to continue your training." She said as she stood up. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
The two then headed back to the lake. There, instead of making Elio go under the waterfall and do the exact same thing, Fiona wanted to task him with something different.
She walked around, searching for something for a bit before she picked up a pile of pebbles.
"Your next training will be the exact same one you did earlier today. However, this time, I will be throwing pebbles at you from different angles. Your goal is to deflect these pebbles while also channeling your energy and keeping it stable."
"... That sounds really tricky." Elio gulped. ’When I was channeling my energy earlier, I was completely out of it. I would not sense anyone approaching me, let alone sense a pebble flying toward me.’
However, he had to learn that.
"Channeling energy must become like a second nature to you, one that you don’t need to consciously control. This exercise will help force your mind to learn that skill. It is very essential in combat as you will be handling countless factors and variables." Fiona said as Elio took his shirt off.
Walking toward the waterfall, Elio stopped and took a deep breath before he got under it.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"Yes."
Then, for a few seconds, Elio tempered his body and stabilized his aura as he started the cultivation process. This time, it was noticeably easier to do that. He found himself in a deep focused state, but not as deep as the one before.
Fiona walked around the lake to the other side before she took one pebble, aimed it at Elio. Then...
*Flick* *Swish*
The pebble flew from her hand like a bullet, right toward Elio.
"Ouch!"
The pebble hit him square in the stomach, snapping him out of the focused state. His aura broke, and the cold water splashed into his body.
