[Summon Background: Nina Dragonheart was a half-dragon warrior from a time known as The Age of Champions. After being discarded by her birth mother, she was adopted and raised by the flame dragon, Pythos. She died during the Age Of Champions while defending her territory in the Great War that caused World Cataclysm]

Nina’s full profile became visible to Ethan the moment she materialized.

She turned back toward him and spoke in a feminine yet solemn voice. "Are you the summoner who has called me forth?"

Ethan nodded without saying anything further.

Nina responded immediately in formal and dignified tone. "Then from today, I shall call you my liege. My sword is yours to command, my shield shall only protect you and those you deem fit, and I will—"

"Whoa, slow down, Nina. You’re talking way too much." Ethan raised both hands, cutting her off as her dramatic vow grew increasingly cringe.

She froze mid-sentence.

"...Eh?"

A faint blush crept across her face. Realizing she had been stopped halfway through her grand declaration, she lowered her head, suddenly looking much smaller.

"S-Sorry... I spoke too much..."

It was almost jarring how quickly she shifted from fierce warrior to awkward girl who’d just been lightly scolded.

The others were still in shock at the sight of the summon.

Given his knowledge and experience against some of these things, Eduardo’s mind was bothered with two major questions.

First, having more than one summon was a feat only achievable by summoners with exceptionally high talent, at least S-level.

Or perhaps someone who had reawakened as a High Invoker.

So how did Master Ethan possess such a gift?

The second question troubled him even more.

Summoners required catalysts to establish contracts with spirits, and a catalyst capable of summoning something of this caliber would be extraordinarily rare and extremely expensive.

Where had his young master acquired such a thing?

Valerie, meanwhile, stared at Nina with growing dread. "Will I really be able to beat that?" she thought to herself as doubt crept into her mind.

Ethan had been right about what he’d pointed out earlier.

Despite her high talent level, the unsealing spell had drained far too much of her mana to sustain a real fight against a Legendary-class summon.

And even though she was desperate for that grimoire, deep down she really did not want violence. A part of her was already considering just letting it go and walking away.

"Okay, Nina, that woman behind me is the enemy—"

Ethan had barely finished those words when suddenly the half-dragon blitzed toward Valerie at an insane speed.

The gust of wind left in her wake was so strong it made Ethan turn his face away instinctively.

"Shit!" Valerie’s eyes widened as the summon suddenly moved.

She raised both hands in a panic, casting a spell. Swirling black flames formed within her magic circle before she released them forward.

But Nina had already closed the distance in one straight line of movement, while raising her massive shield directly in the path of the incoming attack.

The dark flames slammed into the Shield of Pythos, washing over it explosively and kicking up a cloud of dust and debris.

When the chaos cleared, there was a faint orange glow on the shield’s surface, which quickly faded to reveal scorched marks where the spell had struck.

Nina had stood firm as she absorbed the full brunt of the spell through her shield. The Shield of Pythos had directly absorbed the damage of the attack into itself.

That was the first ability the shield possessed. It could absorb the damage of any direct attack up to a certain threshold.

Valerie’s eyes widened in disbelief. One of her strongest spells, Dark Blaze, a Tier 6 spell, had done almost nothing except momentarily halt the summon’s advance.

"Wait, plea—" Valerie began, wanting to surrender outright.

But right then, Nina raised the shield and hurled it toward her like a massive frisbee.

Given the short distance between them, there was no dodging it. Only defense.

Valerie attempted to cast another spell, with the magic circle glowing in front of her palms, but just as it completed, her eyes widened in realization.

It was too late.

The edges of the shield struck her so violently that it sent her flying several meters backward. Her body slammed into a stone wall with a sickening thud, and she crumpled to the ground.

Before she could even attempt to recover, Nina had already arrived before her in another blur of motion, and the end result was the tip of her longsword hovering mere inches away from Valerie’s face.

The only reason the half-dragon summon hadn’t proceeded with finishing her off was because, at the last moment, she’d received a mental command from Ethan to halt.

Valerie was bruised and battered. Blood trickled from a cut on her forehead, and her hands trembled as she stared up at Nina with a frantic, terrified look.

"Please wait, please wait..." she kept calling out in a shaking voice.

All that kept going through her mind was one single thought: "Am I really going to die here?"

Ethan took slow, casual steps toward them and said with a slight grin, "Sheesh, you move really fast."

Earlier, Ethan was actually wanted to say, "Okay, Nina, that woman behind me is the enemy, and I want you to get ready for her," before waiting on Valerie to actually make a move.

But the moment Nina heard the word "enemy," she acted first.

Ethan turned toward the terrified Valerie and said calmly, "It’s fine, Nina."

The half-dragon summon immediately retracted her sword, bowed respectfully, and stepped off to the side.

Ethan watched as Valerie tried to sit back up amidst the pain and blood trickling from the bruise on her head. He sighed at how pitiful she looked.

"Eduardo will transfer your money," he said flatly. "Leave my house, Hemilton."

Then turned to walk away, with the heroine summon following silently behind him.

"Please, Mr. Stark..." Valerie pleaded from behind. "Please... I’ll do anything... I don’t even want the gold anymore."

She couldn’t watch that grimoire be taken away from her without trying everything at her disposal. And since it was clear that fighting for it wouldn’t work, she went with the last option.

A humble plea.

Ethan sighed, shook his head, and turned back. "Second time you’ve led your cause wrongly. Just a few minutes ago, you were ready to get violent for this, and now you’re pleading?"

He sighed again. "What more could you possibly do for me, Valerie?"

"Okay... uhm..." Valerie looked like she was trying to think of something, but Ethan lost his patience and turned to continue walking away.

"Wait, wait..." she called out again.

He paused once more, waiting to see what would come out of this. "You’re wasting my time, Valerie..."

"Okay, fine. Give me employment..." she said, unsure if she’d even just said the right thing.

Ethan turned back toward her with an astonished look on his face. "What?!"

"Yes, please," Valerie said quickly. "That was once an additional offer your butler put on the table when he came to me."

Eduardo rolled his eyes and shook his head.

"He said any member of my family would be given employment into Stark Industries if I wanted, so long as I undid the seal," Valerie continued.

"Yes, I know. I asked him to make that offer," Ethan waved his hand dismissively. "But you didn’t go along with it, and therefore it was not part of the agreement..."

"I know, but please..." she continued pleading. "You don’t have to pay me under your employment either. Just tell me how long I have to work to earn that grimoire back..."

She pointed at it.
