Chapter 102: Just Maybe...

The background noise of battle between Percival and Aliyah blurred into white noise as Ethan stared at the screens before his eyes.

It was almost noon of the second day at camp, and while most students were doing regular student stuff out there, these two werewolves had dragged him out here to be their referee.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he read through the information. Nina was making decent progress toward Emperor Class. Albedo was one battle away from advancing to Knight. Finn had barely started his journey to Commander.

But the other eight summons...

"Why don’t the new summons have any status information?" Ethan asked mentally, keeping his expression neutral as Percival and Aliyah circled each other several meters away.

[The system can only display detailed contract information for summons you have properly bound to yourself]

"Properly bound?" Ethan frowned. "They’re in my contract list."

[Affirmative. However, even though you possess the Spirit King’s Authority perk which allows you to summon without catalysts, the initial summoning still serves as the binding ritual between summoner and spirit]

[You have called upon Nina, Albedo, and Finn, but the eight new summons have not yet been summoned]

[They exist in your contract space, but the binding ritual remains incomplete until you summon them at least once]

"Hm," Ethan muttered.

So basically, he had eight spirits just sitting in storage like they were unopened packages.

And he’d actually have to use them before the system could start tracking their development.

Fair enough.

Right then, a chunk of debris flew from where the wolves were fighting, sending a stone hurtling straight toward Ethan’s face.

Without turning from his screen, Ethan raised one hand and caught the stone mid-flight before tossing it aside.

"Ethan!" Percival called out. "I hope you’re watching, because I’m about to win!"

Ethan’s focus had been on the progress display; [96% complete] for his Dragon Physiology when he heard that.

He sighed and lifted his head. In the next instant, he blinked, and his amber eyes, lined with reptilian slits, shifted into the Eyes of the Sage, sharpening his vision to crystal clarity.

He needed to track the speed and detail of the fight more precisely, and the Eyes of the Sage were better suited for that than his dragon eyes at the moment.

Both Percival and Aliyah grinned at each other from across the small clearing they had carved out with their sparring.

Aliyah lunged forward, driving a punch straight at him.

Percival tilted his head at the last possible second, letting her fist slice past his ear. In the same motion, he caught her arm with both hands and yanked her downward.

CRACK.

Aliyah’s back slammed into the ground hard enough to fracture the earth beneath her. She gritted her teeth from the impact, but her grin returned almost immediately.

With a twist of her hips, she hooked one leg around Percival’s ankle and threw him off balance. He toppled forward, and she rolled with the momentum, slamming him into the dirt beside her.

And they both hit the ground in a cloud of dust.

The fight was taking place well beyond the designated camp area, deep enough in the forest that no teacher would stumble upon them.

It wasn’t authorized by anyone. But then again, two unruly wolves doing their thing rarely needed permission.

Both of them kicked off the ground simultaneously and leaped backward, putting distance between themselves as they reset.

Percival pulled his right fist back, and Ethan’s eyes narrowed in anticipation.

He recognized that stance.

Percival’s fist shot forward at blinding speed and then stopped at the precise moment as the air in front of his knuckles compressed before erupting outward in a devastating shockwave.

"Hm," Ethan muttered, his eyes narrowing further.

Aliyah’s eyes widened as the shockwave barreled toward her. She leaped high into the air, veering to the side to avoid the blast.

"What the hell was that?!" she exclaimed.

Percival grinned and released another Cannon Fist without answering. She barely dodged again, landing in a crouch as the shockwave moved past her and splintered a tree trunk behind her.

He chased after her immediately, not giving her a moment to recover.

Ethan kept watching.

With the Eyes of the Sage active, the movements didn’t slow down in his vision, but he could see every precise detail. Even at the speed they were moving, he could track the bulging veins in Percival’s forearm as he cocked his fist back for another strike.

After seeing the technique twice more, a pattern began forming in Ethan’s mind.

It wasn’t just about throwing a strong punch. It was about the speed and strength at which the punch was thrown, combined with the sudden deceleration at exactly the right point.

Ethan leaned back the tree behind him as he gave it a thought. He understood the fourth meridian granted the required speed and strength to pull off the technique.

But..

If the whole thing about Cannon Fist was about how fast and strong the punch moved, what if he didn’t necessarily need to wait for the Fourth Meridian to replicate the same move?

Sure, he wasn’t as fast or as strong as Percival physically. At least not yet.

But maybe, just maybe, if he factored in his dragon transformation for the overrall boost, the speed and strength gained from his First Meridian opening, the extra speed from his Saber battle aura, and the extra strength from his first Guardian foundation, then amplified all of it by one hundred percent with his demon trait...

Maybe he could move at precisely the right pace and strength to replicate the Cannon fist.
