Chapter 748: Extra Story: The Big BOSS’s Little Wife (16)

"You want to be a doctor? Why do you want to be a doctor?"

Medical school takes many years to complete. Doesn’t she worry about becoming an old maid by the time she graduates?

Ye Anhao didn’t answer him; she just turned her face towards the car window, staring blankly at the starlit sky outside.

When her parents had a car accident, she was just a two-month-old baby. However, according to relatives, her father could have been saved. But due to a doctor’s misjudgment, his legs were amputated, the wounds got infected, causing sepsis, and he eventually died.

Since childhood, Ye Anhao had a wish: to study medicine when she grew up and become an excellent doctor.

Even though Ye Anhao had her back to him, Ouyang Yifeng could faintly sense her sorrow. He was a bit perplexed; why was the usually aloof Ye Anhao suddenly melancholic? Did he ask the wrong question? But he had merely asked what she wanted to do in the future—how could that be wrong?

Noticing Ye Anhao’s abnormal behavior, Ouyang Yifeng stopped asking questions and quietly drove her car.

The two of them remained silent throughout the journey. An hour later, Ouyang Yifeng dropped Ye Anhao off at her apartment building. As usual, Ye Anhao got out of the car without any verbal exchange.

Ouyang Yifeng watched Ye Anhao’s figure recede into the distance until she completely disappeared into the engulfing nightshade before retracting his gaze.

He glanced around at the dimly lit, rundown neighborhood. He was curious how Ye Anhao managed to stay in such a shabby place.

But someone like him, born with a silver spoon, could never understand the adaptability and endurance of those at the bottom of society.

Grandma Ye’s meager salary was spent on medication and their daily expenses. They could barely make ends meet, let alone afford a clean and comfortable home.

Because of this situation, Ye Anhao had no choice but to take up part-time jobs. Despite her excellent grades and the financial aid from school, the university tuition and living expenses were still a hefty burden. She could apply for student loans for tuition, but living expenses had to come from her own pocket. She needed to save enough money for at least one semester’s living expenses before starting university.

Ye Anhao found a part-time job at a high-end café in the city’s center, working from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., which didn’t conflict with her school hours. Typically, school finished at 5 p.m., and she would lie to her grandmother, saying she was staying at school to study, which raised no suspicion.

That evening, Ye Anhao went to work at the café as usual. Since it was a weekday, the café wasn’t very busy. Ye Anhao thought tonight might be like many other workdays, not too tiring.

But soon enough, Ye Anhao changed her mind.

"Hey, did you see the couple that just walked in? They look amazing, especially the guy. He’s so handsome that I felt a bit dizzy just looking at him," one employee gushed.

"Is it really that exaggerated? Since when did you become such a fangirl?" another replied.

"I wasn’t a fangirl before, but that’s because there weren’t any handsome guys to trigger it," she laughed.

"Well, do you have any other hidden tendencies that haven’t been triggered yet?" the second employee rolled her eyes.

Ye Anhao listened quietly, finding it quite amusing. This fangirling was indeed adorable.

"What are you two chatting about? Get back to work!" The manager suddenly appeared and scolded them. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

After scolding the two employees, the manager turned to Ye Anhao and said, "Anhao, there are new customers by the window; please attend to them."

"Sure, Sister Yan, I’ll go right away."

Saying this, Ye Anhao took the menu and walked towards the couple by the window.

The woman sitting by the window was facing her, so even before reaching them, Ye Anhao got a clear look at her face.

Recalling her colleagues’ conversation, Ye Anhao couldn’t help but glance at the woman a few more times.

Her colleagues weren’t wrong; the young woman was indeed beautiful. It wasn’t the kind of beauty created by make-up but her natural, striking features. Besides her innate advantage, her attire and make-up were also very tasteful, making her a true beauty.

However, the beauty was now looking down, her demeanor full of shyness, directed towards the man sitting opposite her.

As a woman, although young, Anhao understood women’s hearts. The woman was probably not familiar with the man but seemed to be interested in him.

Ye Anhao was a little curious about how the man, who had his back to her, looked to have captured such a beauty’s attention.

She walked a few more steps, stopping in front of the pair, "Sir, Miss, here is the menu. Please..."

Ye Anhao smiled slightly, intending to hand the menu to the couple, but her words got stuck in her throat halfway through.

She stared blankly at the man before her. His attention seemed focused on the woman opposite him, not noticing her. Only when she stopped speaking halfway did he instinctively raise his head. His gaze paused on Ye Anhao’s face.

Neither of them expected to meet each other again in a café. But in contrast to Ye Anhao’s shock, the man was much calmer.

He gave her a faint glance and then looked away. Ye Anhao saw the man’s calm demeanor and felt relieved. Why was she nervous? From his reaction, he didn’t seem to remember her at all.

Indeed, they had only met once. She remembered him, but that didn’t mean he would remember her. This was for the best, she thought.

Pretending as if nothing had happened, Anhao tried to keep her voice steady and politely said, "Sir, Miss, have you decided on your order?"

The beauty beside him looked up and asked, "Do you have any recommended specialties?"

Ye Anhao gave her a faint smile, "Many customers like our sirloin and filet steaks. These two are also the best-selling dishes. Would you like to try them?"

"I’ll have the filet steak, a lemonade, and a piece of cheesecake," the woman said.

Ye Anhao noted down the order and then turned to the silent man on her right. Bracing herself, she asked, "Sir, may I take your order?"

The man slowly raised his eyes, his cold, arrogant gaze sweeping across Ye Anhao’s face. His stare was so sharp that it made her feel completely exposed. When their eyes met, she felt he might have recognized her.
